PD Editorial: Feinstein ducks debates in Senate race

Debates are just about the only opportunity for voters to see candidates in an unscripted setting. With campaigns conducted largely by TV ads and direct mail, debates are a chance to hear candidates' views in greater detail and to assess how they interact with opponents and moderators. - Press Democrat

Asked about her refusal to debate Emken, Feinstein told the San Francisco Chronicle, “I haven't seen the point.”

Here it is: From school boards and city councils to the presidency, debates are a fixture of American politics. California's Senate contest shouldn't be an exception.
