Sorry, Mrs. Obama, but government isn’t our parent. It is a service entity to better the lives of its masters, the People of the United States. The government works for us.

What kind of jerk would want to hurt working class people with $1,000 fines OVER DRINKING STRAWS?

The state of California is considering a bill that would punish waiters at sit-down restaurants with up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000, for offering customers straws — because straws are bad for the environment....

Olive Oil, Tea Kettles, and Toasters... The Untold Brexit Story The EU’s overly meddlesome regulations helped drive a wedge between itself and the UK

Forget immigration assimilation issues, terrorism, financial woes, what and how people ate became a regulatory priority. Sound familiar?

A handful of overly nitpicky proposals illustrate a microcosm of broader frustration.

In 2013, the EU pissed off the entire union over a proposal that would’ve banned those little refillable jars of olive oil kept on restaurant tables for delicious bread-dipping in favor of sealable jars.

...The EU has kept new eco-restrictions for high-powered appliances like hair dryers, tea kettles, and toasters close-chested until after the Brexit referendum vote, for fear the new regulations would be perceived as targeting Britain’s favorite breakfast — tea and toast. Doesn’t matter so much now but still, toasters and kettles?

Report: Half of schools cut cafeteria staff as kids abandon Obama menus

A new survey from the School Nutrition Association reported that 70 percent of the nation's lunch programs have been financially "harmed" by the new low-salt, low-sugar menus and that a stunning 93 percent report fewer students buying the chow.

"Meeting these mandates has harmed the financial health of nearly 70 percent of school meal programs surveyed, with fewer than 3 percent reporting a financial benefit," said the survey. Some 49 percent of the responding schools said they were forced to cut cafeteria staff as a result.

The financial threat to school food programs has become so grave that the association is calling on Congress to provide more money. The association said that schools are being ordered by the Agriculture Department to absorb another $1.2 billion in added costs resulting from having to buy more expensive — and less attractive — foods to meet the federal regulations.

At retreat, Dem staffers escort reporters to restroom

Reporters are being escorted to and from the restroom and lobby and are being barred from entering the hotel outside of scheduled events, even if they've been invited by a member of Congress. - Dylan Byers/Politico

Reporters covering the House Democrats' retreat in Philadelphia this week are having a much different experience than when they’re on their home turf on Capitol Hill....

“It was a police state. It was absurd how heavy handed the capitol police and Democratic staff were in trying to control everywhere the press went,” New York Times reporter Jeremy Peters said in an interview.

Peters said at one point he was also barred from entering the hotel where the retreat was taking place, despite the fact he had an invitation to eat breakfast with a member of Congress.

“I was an invited guest into this hotel, into the restaurant of the hotel. The staff from the Democratic caucus refused to let me into the hotel, and the Capitol Police told me to leave, even after the congressman went to them and said 'no, he is my invited guest,'" Peters said.

Peters said he was told by a staffer they were being escorted to prevent them from talking to members of Congress....

The incident is reminiscent of the Clinton Global Initiative conference in September, where reporters were being escorted by staff right up to the bathroom stall.

Dying For a Cigarette in New York

As I have repeatedly tweeted, the correct chant for Garner's case is: Hey, de Blasio! Black lives matter more than your $%^&* tax money! - Ann Coulter/Townhall
What "brought us to this day" is not a "history" of racism; it's the left's maniacal pursuit of taxes -- the precise reason cops were arresting Eric Garner. He was selling untaxed cigarettes. He resisted arrest and, in the tussle, had a fatal heart attack.

Cops don't want to enforce these nonsense revenue-generating laws, but that's their job.
Dying For a Cigarette in New York - Ann Coulter/Human Events
On Monday night, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow reported in horror that there has been a major reduction in fine-collection by the police. NEW YORKERS ARE GETTING AWAY WITH IDLING THEIR CARS! WHAT KIND OF A CITY HAVE WE BECOME? She accused the police of "holding a city hostage," warning, "If they feel like they don't have public support now, is this supposed to earn it back?"

Why, yes, I think it is. The only time normal people get annoyed at cops is precisely for these revenue-collection laws -- parking tickets, moving violations, driving without a seatbelt, selling untaxed cigarettes, jaywalking and so on. So it was quite brilliant of the cops to zero in on the laws that exist just because Democrats want the money.
◼ And now: ‘Who’s going to enforce this?’ Having solved all other problems, Bill de Blasio announces styrofoam ban - Twitchy

Seattle Bans Throwing Food Away in Trash

Families can be fined $1 on their garbage bill for putting “food-contaminated cardboard” in their trashcan, as a result of the compost mandate. - Washington Free Beacon

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports: Currently, Seattle residents are allowed to throw food and food waste – pizza boxes, dirty napkins, soiled paper towels – in the garbage. Residents are required to have a food and yard waste collection service, but they don’t have to use it for food. (Backyard composters are exempt from that requirement.)

Similarly, multi-family building owners are required to provide a compost collection service for residents, but residents don’t have to use it.

But on Jan. 1, Seattle will ban food and food waste in trash.

Welcome to TotCare: Obama’s Preschool Takeover

The federal government wants to eliminate competition and use your kids’ data. - Michelle Malkin/National Review

...On Wednesday, the White House Summit on Early Education will unveil nearly $1 billion in new “investments” to “expand access to high-quality early childhood education to every child in America” from “birth and continuing to age 5.” It’s a retread of President Obama’s 2013 State of the Union school-spending plan, which was a repackaging of his 2011 Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge program.

Those Obama initiatives are knockoffs of moldy old Democratic policy chestnuts, such as former Vice President Al Gore’s push to fund preschool for all three-year-olds at a cost to taxpayers of at least $50 billion over ten years, left-wing actor/director Rob Reiner’s “I Am Your Child” campaign for universal preschool and child care, and Hillary Clinton’s various “It Takes a Village” schemes to expand Head Start from womb to work. With age comes fiefdom.

How could anybody be against tax-subsidized pre-K for all, you say? Let me count the ways....

Think Obamacare is bad? Well, welcome to TotCare. The goal of the educational central planners, you see, is the elimination of competition. The fact is that the vast majority of pre-K kids are already happily enrolled in early-childhood programs outside of Fed Ed’s clutches. The “problem” isn’t most families’ lack of access to preschool. It’s Washington’s lack of access to your kids for their institutionalized warehousing, data mining, and pedagogical propaganda schemes. The Nanny State’s ceaseless quest for control keeps creepily rolling along.

Germany’s Environment Minister Calls On Citizens To Turn Off Lights During Sex – To Protect Climate!

...be nice to the climate. - Climate Depot

One clip shows a teenage girl coming home late one evening, quietly tip-toeing past the open door of a lit up living room, only to awkwardly catch her parents in the act. Embarrassed, the daughter turns off the lights.

A voice comes on:
The world says thanks. 5% less energy consumption in German households makes one coal power plant redundant. Together it’s climate protection.”

Another video shows an overweight man filling up his SUV with a jet ski in tow...

The message here, other than men being stupid fat pigs, is:
The climate says thanks. The climate is happy about every single bicycle ride.”
Another video shows a woman closing the window so she does not have to hear the sounds of her power-tool operating husband being eaten by zombies.

After she closes the window, a voice says:
The world says thank you. Stop leaving the windows open in the winter time. Airing out the house all at once for a short time is better for the climate.”

The liberal ideology — Americans too ‘stupid’ to know what’s good for them

There’s something truly terrifying about liberals. That is not hyperbole: There really is something truly terrifying about liberals. - Joseph Curl/Washington Times

They deem themselves the keepers of the moral good, with only their goals and aspirations worthy, so they don’t care a bit about how they achieve them. For liberals, the ends justify the means — always. And that’s terrifying. To liberals, all conservatives or moderates or libertarians — everyone who does not think exactly like them — are stupid. They simply don’t understand the complexities of the world, can’t possibly fathom them, or else they would be liberal! It’s that simple: If you’re not liberal, you’re stupid.

To liberals, conservatives want to destroy the environment, murder old people and make sure all children are poorly educated. Oh, and conservatives want women either pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen or in a back alley with a coat hanger. To the intelligentsia that makes up the liberal masses, the “tolerance” they chant as mantra does not apply to anyone who thinks differently from them....

Not often do we get a glimpse behind their facade of “tolerance,”
but just such a peek came last week with the discovery of taped comments of a chief architect of Obamacare, Jonathan Gruber. The MIT health economist who helped write portions of the Affordable Care Act spoke candidly about how top Obama officials employed devious tactics to circumvent what he dubbed the “stupidity of the American voter.”

...The Supreme Court may soon review the law now that a Court of Appeals has thrown out a key IRS regulation that helps the federal government dole out Obamacare subsidies. Chances are they won’t like the purposeful lack of transparency, the ends-justify-the-means mentality or government officials who think the American people are “stupid.”

Gruber's Obamacare comments expose what's wrong with liberalism

My colleague Tim Carney has already written about how the comments are just the latest reminder of how the law was built on a foundation of lies. But there is a broader message in all of this — that Gruber’s comments get to the heart of what’s wrong with liberalism. - Philip Klein/Washington Examiner @philipklein

At the end of the day, liberals not only believe that they’re smarter than the public, but that they have a better sense of what’s good for the people than Americans themselves.

During the legislative debate over Obamacare, Gruber was frequently cited by liberal writers. He was portrayed as the numbers whiz who had all the stats and data to show that it was objectively the right policy. Opponents were portrayed as alternately stupid, dishonest or heartless.

Never mind that the law, among other things, raised rates on young and healthy individuals, forced individuals to purchase insurance, dictated to them what type of insurance they had to have, kicked them out of insurance that they may have liked, and resulted in plans with fewer choices of doctors and hospitals. The smart liberals have had an answer to all of these things.

As they tell it, young and healthy Americans will someday be old and sick; healthy individuals can sometimes suffer unexpected illnesses or accidents; the cheaper insurance they want to buy or want to keep isn’t as good for them as the more expensive insurance they will be forced to buy; and restricting access will contain costs.

It doesn’t stop with Obamacare, of course.

Liberals want to make Americans eat differently and to travel differently. They want taxes to be higher, because they think Americans waste their own money and that experts in government can spend it more wisely. They don’t believe that Americans should have more choice when it comes to saving for their retirement, because they think Americans are too stupid and irresponsible, so they’ll blow it. They don’t think that they should be able to have more choice over where to send their children to school.

Liberals don’t think that state and local governments should resolve most issues, because there are some states they think are dominated by dumb and unsophisticated people. So, to mitigate this, they support giving more power to the federal government, so that the smart people can impose their preferences on the whole country..... READ IT ALL

So much for that apology....video #2 is now out and showing the Obamacare architect celebrating the "stupidity" of the American people - HotAir

Oopsie! Another “speak-o”? Hardly. The architect of the nanny-state takeover of the health insurance industry has a pattern of public remarks about his evaluation of the American public as too stupid to take care of itself. That shouldn’t shock anyone; it’s exactly the same attitude that drives all nanny-state policies. Unfortunately for the current administration, Gruber’s dumb enough to air that opinion in public, multiple times, on camera.

Democrats’ phony ‘GOP war on women’ dredges up the ’60s

Gloria Steinem’s feminist angst doesn’t move women anymore - Tammy Bruce/Washington Times

It looks as though the Democrats are panicking over the midterms enough that they’ve called out the warhorse, Gloria Steinem. Yes, the Democrats have worked very hard to keep women back in the ‘60s, and now they are, literally, trying to convince American women that nothing has changed, and victims all will be. If the “evil” GOP wins, of course.

The problem for the Democrats is that women have realized the supposed feminist movement hasn’t been about improving the quality of women’s lives at all, but about promoting the liberal agenda, which as we see, continues to destroy everyone’s quality of life....

Democrats simply don’t think women have minds of their own. We not only see, but live, the results of their craven, inept and corrupt policies. Obamacare is one thing, the ongoing economic stagnation that continues to drive wages down as we become an Obama part-time-job nation also makes life more difficult, whether you are a married or single woman.

We have a world on fire because of Mr. Obama’s bizarre, passive allowance of tyrants to grow strong and wreak havoc. The Democrats think women care more about getting an abortion than the wars that will be fought by the loved ones and children of women, and by women themselves.

Single women have also had enough. All women must ask the question whether they’re better off now than six years ago, and the answer for them, like everyone else, is a resounding no....
