Rob Portman: Obama has added $7.5 trillion in debt
◼ Sen. Rob Portman gives the Republican Party's Weekly Remarks - Andrew Malcolm.IBD
This week, President Obama released his annual budget proposal. It’s a 2,000 page document that spells out how he’d like to spend your hard-earned tax dollars.... It’s no secret that Washington is addicted to overspending, but, boy, the numbers are now simply staggering. Every year of the Obama presidency, the federal government has spent hundreds of billions of dollars more than it takes in, and those massive yearly deficits, they add up.
In the first six years of his administration, President Obama has added a record $7.5 trillion to the national debt.
To put that in perspective, that’s about $60,000 in new debt for every American household....

Scandal Rocks the U.N.
Four days ago, on February 2, the head of a U.N. commission of inquiry created to investigate war crimes in Gaza was forced to resign after it was revealed that he had taken money from the PLO for providing legal advice. William Schabas’s U.N. job was to expose war criminals and recommend how to hold them “accountable.” William Schabas’s PLO job was to show them how to use the International Criminal Court (ICC) to hold Israeli war criminals accountable. He didn’t think there was a problem.
His conflict of interest did not surface, however, until after the inquiry he was heading had “largely completed” its evidence-gathering, and the writing of the requisite report had begun, according to Schabas himself. But instead of taking the only legitimate route and setting aside the whole tainted exercise, the president of the U.N. Human Rights Council, Joachim Rücker of Germany, claimed he was “preserving the integrity” of the inquiry simply by accepting Schabas’s resignation....
Hence, the Schabas inquiry’s mandate was to examine human-rights violations “in the occupied Palestinian territory,” not “in Israel.” The date cited for the beginning of the inquiry was June 13, 2014, because Palestinian terrorists had kidnapped (and later murdered) three Israeli teenagers the day before — and Israeli aggression was a given of the investigation. The mandate never mentioned “Hamas” or its terror tunnels, almost half of which opened into Israel.
With the terms of the “inquiry” set to ensure the desired outcome, Schabas and two others became the council’s tools. They were selected by President Rücker “in consultation” with the Palestinians in the belief that they could be counted upon to deliver a guilty verdict.

◼ FCC Commissioner Slams ‘Obama’s 332-Page Plan To Regulate The Internet’ - Daily Caller
Republican FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai on Friday raised the first of many criticisms to come about FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler’s aggressive net neutrality plan distributed to commissioners Thursday, which Pai described as “President Obama’s 332-page plan to regulate the Internet.”
In a statement released Friday, Pai lamented the fact that the 332-page plan, which he tweeted a picture of himself holding next to a picture of Obama, won’t be released to the public until after the commission votes on its implementation later this month....
“President Obama’s plan marks a monumental shift toward government control of the Internet. It gives the FCC the power to micromanage virtually every aspect of how the Internet works,” Pai said. “The plan explicitly opens the door to billions of dollars in new taxes on broadband… These new taxes will mean higher prices for consumers and more hidden fees that they have to pay.”
In his initial cursory overview of the plan, the commissioner said it would hinder broadband investment, slow network speed and expansion, limit outgrowth to rural areas of the country and reduce Internet service provider (ISP) competition.
“The plan saddles small, independent businesses and entrepreneurs with heavy-handed regulations that will push them out of the market,” Pai said. “As a result, Americans will have fewer broadband choices. This is no accident. Title II was designed to regulate a monopoly. If we impose that model on a vibrant broadband marketplace, a highly regulated monopoly is what we’ll get.”

Can you imagine what life would be like without Prop. 13? In New Jersey the average property tax bill is $8,161.
Already the highest in the nation, residential property taxes in New Jersey saw the biggest growth in three years during 2014, and the continued high cost of living is starting to drive residents out.
According to data from the state’s Department of Community Affairs, residential property taxes increased 2.2% in 2014 to an average of $8,161. The disparity between New Jersey’s property taxes and the rest of America is astounding.
The Tax Policy Center, a non-partisan, joint venture of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution reported 79% of American homeowners paid less than $1,750 in property taxes annually. Only 3% paid more than $4,000 and a miniscule share of homeowners — just 0.2% — pay more than $8,000.

Is this ISIS’ attempt at a divide-and-conquer strategy to split the US and Jordan in our mutual war on terror? How do we deal with the false perception that liberals are more inclined to trust science than conservatives?
The New York Times claims that the vaccine controversy we’re all talking about raises important questions about “how to approach matters that have largely been settled among scientists but are not widely accepted by conservatives.”
Well, here’s another question: How do we deal with the false perception that liberals are more inclined to trust science than conservatives? Also, how do we approach the media’s fondness for focusing on the unscientific views of some conservatives but ignoring the irrational — and oftentimes more consequential — beliefs of their fellow liberals?
Though outing GOP candidates as skeptics of science may confirm the secular liberal’s own sense of intellectual superiority, it usually has nothing to do with policy. However, if you walk around believing that pesticides are killing your children or that fracking will ignite your drinking water or if you hyperventilate about the threat of the ocean’s consuming your city, you have a viewpoint that not only conflicts with science but undermines progress. So how do we approach matters that have been settled among scientists but are not widely accepted by liberals?
Take vaccines. There is little proof that conservatives are any less inclined to vaccinate their children than anyone else. If we’re interested in politicizing the controversy, though, there is a good case to be made for the opposite....
while Republicans are evenly divided on whether genetically modified foods are unsafe, Democrats believe so by a 26-point margin. Liberals across the United States — New York, California, Oregon and Massachusetts recently — have been pushing for labeling foods to create the perception that something is wrong with them. Science disagrees.
Hydraulic fracturing is as safe as any other means of extracting fossil fuels. It creates hundreds of thousands of jobs. It provides cheaper energy for millions of Americans. It has less of an environmental impact than other processes. It means less dependency on foreign oil. It helped the economy work its way out of a recession. So 62 percent of Republicans support science, and 59 percent of Democrats oppose it. Numerous scientific studies — one funded by the National Science Foundation, which debunked the purported link between groundwater pollution and fracking — have assured us that there’s nothing to fear.
It doesn’t end there.... KEEP READING
Obama revealed his true colors at Prayer Breakfast, and true ignorance of history
There is grave danger in statements supporting moral equivalency and religious relativism. What happens is horrific behavior is excused because you have a certain recalcitrance in admitting the existence of evil.◼ Rev. Graham to Obama: Unlike Christ, Mohammed ‘Killed Many Innocent People' - His 'True Followers' Emulate Him - CNS News
President Barack Obama had the chance to affirm our Judeo-Christian faith heritage at the National Prayer Breakfast just days after the world was exposed to the savage and barbaric actions of ISIS in the burning to death of the captured Jordanian fighter pilot. But he did not....
Now, being a simple student of history, I’d like to share a simple analysis — and please, I ask all the Islamapologists reading this to sit down and take a deep breath.... KEEP READING
Franklin Graham, who heads the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), said on his Facebook page shortly after the president’s remarks, “Today at the National Prayer Breakfast, the President implied that what ISIS is doing is equivalent to what happened over 1,000 years ago during the Crusades and the Inquisition...."◼ "He cannot adjust to or accept the calamities it is causing." - Roger L Simon/PJMedia
“Mr. President--Many people in history have used the name of Jesus Christ to accomplish evil things for their own desires,” said Rev. Graham. “But Jesus taught peace, love and forgiveness. He came to give His life for the sins of mankind, not to take life.”
Many faiths could be cited, including communism, obviously, also a kind of religion that was responsible for exponentially more deaths — via Stalin’s Gulag, Mao’s Cultural Revolution and Great Leap Forward, the killing fields of Cambodia, etc. — than all other belief systems combined, although none of them are doing it now. Right now it’s Islamic radicalism that just the other day placed a human being in a cage and burned him alive, an act not, to my knowledge, even performed by Dr. Mengele. And it was done in the name of Allah.
And yet Obama saw fit to lecture his audience on the Crusades and slavery, done “in the name of Christ,” subjects of which his audience was undoubtedly well aware and, needless to say, did not approve in the slightest. Yet still the president felt he had to hector them. Why?
To begin with, we can find some the answer in his criticism of ISIS, which Obama described as ”a brutal vicious death cult that in the name of religion carries out unspeakable acts of barbarism, claiming the mantle of religious authority for such actions.” Note the now unsurprising use of the word “religion,” not “Islam,” or the even more telling “Mohammed,” a warlord who married a little girl and a figure, one can safely say, not very much like Christ. Nevertheless, Obama can blacken Christians and name them in a speech, but not Muslims.
The reason is not complicated. Obama is not a religious person. He rarely appears in church, except for political purposes. He is titularly a Christian, but identifies emotionally, from his youth in Indonesian madrassas and from his ideological predisposition, with Third World Muslims. But now he is confronted with those same Muslims behaving like barbarians across Africa and the Middle East and sometimes into Europe and America.
What would be his reaction to that? Pretty much what it is for most throughout the Islamic world — shame. As many have noted, Islam is a shame culture (the kind of society that will go berserk over cartoons) and, like it or not, our president is part of it culturally. That does not mean he is stoning adulterers or cutting off the hands of thieves or treating women like chattel, but it does mean he is genuinely and quite deeply ashamed of the religion he, in part, came from. He cannot adjust to or accept the calamities it is causing. Unlike the president of Egypt, he cannot name it.... KEEP READING

As a curfew is lifted, Baghdad is at long last partying again
...Since Islamic State fighters overran much of the north and west of the country in the summer, a paradoxical sense of calm has taken hold. The initial panic that followed the militant onslaught has abated, and as residents have come to realize that the capital is not at risk of falling, Baghdad has sprung to life.
Nightclubs have proliferated, liquor stores dot the streets, and families pile into cars every evening to eat at one of the many new restaurants or stroll in the glitzy new mall. A glittering riverboat plies the Tigris River every night, serving dinner on one deck and coffee on another. A pink neon palace called the Barbie Clinic pampers women with beauty treatments late into the evening.
For those who can’t afford such venues, there are impromptu parties along the bridges and banks of the Tigris, where young men gather with cans of beer to talk, socialize and, after the drink has taken effect, dance in the streets....
Some say the Islamic State’s capacity to wage bombing campaigns has been eroded by the campaign to halt their advance.
Others credit the replacement of former prime minister Nouri al-Maliki by Abadi, whose more relaxed and less Islamist style of governance has lifted some of the tensions....
The Shiite militias and government forces that preyed on citizens’ lives, blowing up liquor stores, shutting down clubs and assassinating rivals, are preoccupied on the front lines with the Islamic State. Many Iraqis fret about what will happen if they return to the capital in force.
But for now, “the militias are too busy fighting Daesh to bother us,” said liquor store owner Khaled Haidar, 45, using the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State. “The war is not in Baghdad now.” KEEP READING

It’s not surprising, given his view of our country, that Obama would deny that Americans ever have standing to get on a high horse. But if we can’t see ourselves as morally superior by a comfortable margin to terrorists who burn people alive, we must be a morally bankrupt and fairly barbaric country.◼ Barack Obama: What the heck is wrong with you? = Washington Times
What evidence did Obama cite for the propositions we shouldn’t get on our high horse and think that ISIS’s conduct is unique to some other place. First, he cited the crusades and the Inquisition. These events occurred more than 500 years ago in “some other places.” They had nothing to do with America, whose founding was centuries away.
To suggest that the crusades and the Inquisition should preclude Americans from a sense of vast moral superiority to ISIS is to carry moral relativism to an absurd extreme.
Barack Obama was asked about this gruesome murder that the Islamic savages filmed and then released on Tuesday. The photo-op president of the United States was in the middle of another Obamacare promotional event when a journalist asked him about the death of the Jordanian pilot.
Mr. Obama, instead of reacting with the horror that real Americans or even any sane individual has over this shocking murder, seemed to be seriously irritated that someone would dare interrupt his photo-op.
Mr. Obama mumbled some words about a “bankrupt ideology.” That was it. There was no outrage from him. In fact, he would not even call the murdering savages Islamists. His functionaries that speak for the Obama Regime will not even identify ISIS as an Islamic group....
What outrages Mr. Obama? He got absolutely motivated when the Republicans and the Democrats were ready to pass a bill that put sanctions on Iran. That got Mr. Obama angry and motivated. Burning a human being alive? No, that doesn’t really move his meter.
ISIS is clearly stepping up its shock tactics — and while conceptualizing that may be hard, ISIS will top burning someone alive. Never underestimate the power of evil....

Watch the media game in action: CNN's Chris Cuomo pushes the latest liberal attack on conservatives/Republicans
◼ CNN's Cuomo: GOP is 'Always Pushing Back Against Science'; Hounds Ben Carson on Vaccines - Newsbusters
CUOMO: Understood. I'm not saying that Republicans are getting sick more. I'm saying that they're talking about the sickness more in ways that may not be productive. For example, what you say about, well, maybe people being introduced. That sounds like code for illegal immigration to me. Is that a point you're trying to make? Are you trying to make the measles situation into an immigration argument?
CARSON: It's not code, and I'm not trying to make it into any particular argument. I'm stating what the facts are. The facts are there are people in our country-
CUOMO: Right-
CARSON: Who have been lax, in terms of their vigilance of getting their kids immunized; and we have people coming in who are not necessarily being properly screened. That's not making any issue. That's stating facts.
CUOMO: Well, do we know that it's a fact? Do we know that any of the cases are from people who came into the country illegally and didn't have their kids vaccinated?
CARSON: Let me put it this way: if I found you somebody who came in from another country who had not been vaccinated and caused a problem, would that convince you?
CUOMO: Yes, as much as you would want to value-
CARSON: No, it would not.
CUOMO: No, of course. You want the – you want the supposition to have something behind it other than something that can – you know, just prejudice people against immigrants. So, of course, it would give some validity to it. That's why I'm surprised you'd say that without that in your pocket.
CARSON: It's not to prejudice anybody. But we have to deal with reality. And if you have people coming into your country who have not been properly screened; who have not had the same kind of care as the people in this country; I don't think you have to be a genius to figure out that that could introduce some communicable problems.

A shakeup is likely at MSNBC
Some of the most disappointing numbers have come from their latest additions and shifts in the evening lineup. But who is on the chopping block?
Considering a number of their shows are unwatchable — here’s looking at you Chris Hayes and Joy Reid — it’s painfully obvious that MSNBC’s lineup is in need of a serious makeover. The ratings for Farrow never got out of the basement, and apparently Joy Reid doesn’t do much better. They manage to lose to CNN, say nothing of Fox which still dominates all time slots, perhaps because rather than having an anchor at least ostensibly reporting on the news as it happens, they fill it up with progressive lectures to the unwashed masses with a list of guests who do nothing but reinforce the media narrative being preached that day.
According to TheWrap, Hayes’ crappy ratings are even bringing down those of his TV mentor, Rachel Maddow. Let’s just say Hayes as a lead-in is less than inspiring. His innate preachiness even less so.
MSNBC President Phil Griffin is on the verge of making serious changes to daytime and primetime programs. Those reportedly in trouble include Hayes, who could see his 8 p.m. time slot nixed, Ronan Farrow (whose show is actually fun to hate watch), and the aforementioned Reid.

The measles outbreak Timing matches last year’s surge of children across the border
Measles is supposed to be dead and gone from the United States, having been declared “eliminated” by the Centers for Disease Control in 2000. But 15 years later, the disease appears to be back.
The new outbreak has inevitably spawned a contagion of blame, most of it aimed at everything but a likely major contributor.
The term “elimination” is misleading. The CDC defines “elimination” as “the absence of continuous disease transmission for 12 months or more in a specific geographic area.” Measles, the CDC says, “is no longer endemic [or constantly present] in the United States.” Since the year 2000, when measles was declared “eliminated” here, the number of cases has ranged from 37 in 2004 to 644 in all of last year. The numbers were 55 in 2012 and 187 in 2013.
The small anti-vaccination movement was blamed for outbreaks of whooping cough and pertussis in 2012, two other diseases thought to have been eradicated. The so-called “anti-vaxxers,” driven by concerns over the safety of vaccines, are blamed this time, but that may be a diversion of attention from the accurate source of the measles resurgence.
The disease, the CDC says, is brought into the U.S. “by unvaccinated [Americans or foreign visitors] who are infected in other countries.” Nothing has so far been said about President Obama’s having thrown open the southern border last year. The timing of the outbreak coincides with the surge of hundreds of thousands of young illegal immigrants whom the Obama administration did nothing to discourage....
Led by ThinkProgress.org, the left is covering for Mr. Obama’s immigration schemes, arguing that data from the World Health Organization shows that measles-vaccination rates in Mexico and Central America are higher than the U.S. rate of 92 percent. The president’s political allies argue that this clears the illegals from blame, but the infected poor and usually illiterate youths who streamed across the border unchecked last year may have been drawn from those who were not vaccinated. We don’t know, because there was no screening of the arrivals for disease of any kind, nor whether they had had the vaccinations most American children receive. They were quickly dispersed across the country by the Department of Homeland Security.
“It’s not to prejudice anybody, but we have to deal with reality,” says Dr. Ben Carson, a retired neurosurgeon and whose weekly column is published in many newspapers, including The Washington Times. “And if you have people coming into your country who have not been properly screened,” he told CNN, “I don’t think you have to be a genius to figure out that that could introduce some communicable [disease] problems.” KEEP READING

Brian Williams admits that his story of coming under fire while in Iraq was false
Williams said he was not aboard a helicopter that was hit by enemy fire and forced down — a story he retold as recently as last week during a televised tribute to a retired soldier during a New York Rangers hockey game.
On “NBC Nightly News” Wednesday evening, Williams read a 50-second statement apologizing for his characterization of the episode.
“After a groundfire incident in the desert during the Iraq war invasion, I made a mistake in recalling the events of 12 years ago,” he said. “It did not take long to hear from some brave men and women in the air crews who were also in that desert. I want to apologize. I said I was traveling in an aircraft that was hit by [rocket-propelled grenade] fire. I was instead in a following aircraft. . . . This was a bungled attempt by me to thank one special veteran and, by extension, our brave military men and women, veterans everywhere, those who have served while I did not.”
NBC News and MSNBC have always been comfortable peddling false narratives. No one should be surprised by the Brian Williams story.

◼ ISIS Releases Statement: We Have Already Smuggled Four Thousand ISIS Fighters Into Western Nations, Disguising Themselves As Refugees, And They Will Be Executing Major Attacks - Walid Shoebat
An ISIS jihadist recently made quite a revealing statement: ISIS has already smuggled in four thousand jihadist fighters into Europe, and that they are entering in as refugees. He said that he settled into Turkey and began working on smuggling in Muslim terrorists as small groups into Western nations.
He said that the terrorists came into Europe on cargo ships alongside other refugees. They travel from the Turkish cities of Izmir and Mersin and travel into Europe, mainly Italy. The operative made it very clear that the terrorists intend to make attacks within Europe, especially Italy.

Seven SCOTUS justices agree: Obama’s $4B “clean power” slush fund is likely unconstitutional
The President’s recent budget proposal contained all sorts of unpleasant surprises, but one item of interest to the green energy crowd was a four billion dollar, taxpayer generated slush fund designed to coerce states into complying with the EPA’s “clean energy” initiatives. States would qualify for a piece of the pie by coming into compliance with the costly mandates ahead of schedule.
The American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity condemned President Obama’s 2016 Fiscal Year budget for prioritizing his politicized environmental policies at the expense of American families and businesses. For every carrot there is a stick, though. While states might qualify for some cash if they toe the line on these mandates early, the administration is ready to cut their federal highway funding if they don’t manage to meet the requirements on time.
The proposal calls for the creation of a $4 billion fund – paid by taxpayers – to encourage states to comply with the Environmental Protection Agency’s costly Clean Power Plan. The $4 billion, however, is just a tiny fraction of the more than $366 billion in compliance costs associated with the plan. States can qualify for a portion of the $4 billion by reaching the targets stipulated by EPA in an accelerated manner or by exceeding EPA’s targets. A number of state governors have already cried foul at the cost and reliability impacts of the Clean Power Plan.

Thomas Sowell: Obama versus America
In his recent trip to India, President Obama repeated a long-standing pattern of his — denigrating the United States to foreign audiences. He said that he had been discriminated against because of his skin color in America, a country in which there is, even now, “terrible poverty.”...
Nothing that happened to Barack Obama when he was attending a posh private school in Hawaii, or elite academic institutions on the mainland, was in the same league with the appalling treatment of untouchables in India. And what Obama called “terrible poverty” in America would be called prosperity in India.
The history of the human race has not always been a pretty picture, regardless of what part of the world you look at, and regardless of whatever color of the rainbow the people have been.
If you want to spend your life nursing grievances, you will never run out of grievances to nurse, regardless of what color your skin is. If some people cannot be rotten to you because of your race, they will find some other reason to be rotten to you.... KEEP READING
Foreigners, Diplomats Warned to Leave Egypt or Be Targeted for Jihad
An Islamist organization sympathetic to the Muslim Brotherhood is warning all foreigners and diplomats to flee Egypt by the end of February or face becoming “a target by the Revolutionary Punishment Movement,” according to a recent warning posted online by a Brotherhood-affiliated site and read live on television by one of its broadcast organs.
The statement issues a threat to “all foreign nationals,” “all foreign companies,” and all “embassy foreigners, diplomats, and ambassadors,” ordering them to leave Egypt by the end of the month or face violent attacks, according to an independent translation of the Arabic statement.
Foreign travelers also are warned to “cancel their trips” and told “they are not welcome to Egypt during these difficult days.”
The warning comes just a week after Brotherhood leaders and allies were hosted for a meeting at the State Department, which drew fierce criticism from the Egyptian government.
It also follows a similar statement by the Brotherhood urging its supporters to prepare for a “long, uncompromising jihad” in Egypt.

Measles outbreak prompts political debate over vaccinations
President Obama, in an interview over the weekend with NBC News, encouraged parents to vaccinate their children — but stopped short of saying such a vaccination should be compulsory....
As a candidate for president in 2008, Obama struck a very different tone on the issue than he now does.

◼ Is #VaccineGate a Distraction from the Root Cause of America’s Measles Outbreak? - Le-gal In-sur-rec-tion
Back in 2000, the Americas were cited as an example of how to effectively eradicate measles infections by prestigious medical journals; who would have thought that 15 years later, the vaccination for this disease is poised to become a topic in our upcoming presidential race?◼ Dr. Carson on Vaccines: ‘We Should Not Allow’ Diseases to Return ‘By Foregoing Safe Immunization’ - MRCTV
Carson prefaced his remarks with a commitment to individual and parental rights: “Although I strongly believe in individual rights and the rights of parents to raise their children as they see fit, I also recognize that public health and public safety are extremely important in our society.”
Another doctor and likely Republican presidential candidate, Rand Paul (R-Ky.) was skewered on CNBC for his statement that “vaccines are one of the greatest medical breakthroughs that we’ve had, but that for most of our history vaccines have been voluntary” and that “I guess I don’t understand... why that would be controversial.”

◼ Vaccine mandates, individual liberty and elite failure - Timothy P. Carney/Washington Examiner @TPCarney
Liberal commentators and mainstream reporters have begun suggesting that opposition to vaccines is a Tea Party phenomenon, thus opening the door for pious lectures about the dangers of “anti-government” sentiment.
This is the standard nonsense of the political debate....
Data suggest that most vaccine opposition comes from wealthy, white, secular, liberal enclaves. But Rand Paul’s comments — that vaccine mandates are a "liberty" issue — suggest a strain of vaccination skepticism is present on the Right....
Vaccine opposition also finds roots in a dislike of government micromanaging our lives. Government tells us what light bulbs we can have, it forces us to buy health insurance, it requires permits and inspections before we can erect a Rubbermaid toll shed, it makes our showers and toilets weaker, and it bans large soft drinks (except at 7-Eleven).
When government weighs in on these matters, where it has no legitimate role and little or no scientific basis, it fosters a skepticism and opposition to government interventions. That skepticism persists even when the science and the moral authority are present.
The elites — through overreach, cronyism and incompetence — have lost the public trust. One casualty might be public health.

◼ Here's something that many Americans -- including some of the smartest and most educated among us -- don't know - Jim Clifton/Gallup (Jim Clifton is Chairman and CEO at Gallup.)
Right now, we're hearing much celebrating from the media, the White House and Wall Street about how unemployment is "down" to 5.6%. The cheerleading for this number is deafening. The media loves a comeback story, the White House wants to score political points and Wall Street would like you to stay in the market.
None of them will tell you this: If you, a family member or anyone is unemployed and has subsequently given up on finding a job -- if you are so hopelessly out of work that you've stopped looking over the past four weeks -- the Department of Labor doesn't count you as unemployed. That's right. While you are as unemployed as one can possibly be, and tragically may never find work again, you are not counted in the figure we see relentlessly in the news -- currently 5.6%.
Right now, as many as 30 million Americans are either out of work or severely underemployed. Trust me, the vast majority of them aren't throwing parties to toast "falling" unemployment.
There's another reason why the official rate is misleading. Say you're an out-of-work engineer or healthcare worker or construction worker or retail manager: If you perform a minimum of one hour of work in a week and are paid at least $20 -- maybe someone pays you to mow their lawn -- you're not officially counted as unemployed in the much-reported 5.6%. Few Americans know this.
Yet another figure of importance that doesn't get much press: those working part time but wanting full-time work. If you have a degree in chemistry or math and are working 10 hours part time because it is all you can find -- in other words, you are severely underemployed -- the government doesn't count you in the 5.6%. Few Americans know this.
There's no other way to say this. The official unemployment rate, which cruelly overlooks the suffering of the long-term and often permanently unemployed as well as the depressingly underemployed, amounts to a Big Lie.... KEEP READING

Attkisson: White House Using Tax Dollars for Studio-Grade ‘Pure Propaganda’
◼ "Your tax dollars may kick in for the cost of their hairstylists, makeup artists and wardrobe consultants." - Nicholas Ballasy/PJMedia
Former CBS News correspondent Sharyl Attkisson said the Obama administration has been producing its own video content to promote “unfiltered” messages with taxpayer-funded staff, including hairstylists, makeup artists and wardrobe consultants.
By cutting out the news media, Attkisson said the White House has figured out how to avoid questions and accountability. She also revealed that the Department of Agriculture has more than 1,200 “media relations employees” nationwide.
“White House officials have exploited non-news media to spoon-feed unfiltered messaging, at times pure propaganda, into the public’s mouth. The Google-sponsored chat I mentioned – that came with a pre-selected audience and questions submitted in advance by the White House’s own YouTube channel – that’s the way they like it,” Attkisson, the author of Stonewalled, said during a speech at Hillsdale College. “They generate their own content, rely on surrogates to help spread partisan blogs, Twitter and Facebook, give lots of interviews to entertainment programs, digital media and feature press.”
Attkisson said the federal government has adopted many public affairs strategies used by large corporations, except the government is using public funds to “advance its propaganda.”
“One way they do it is by self-producing videos and building their very own television production facilities where the upper echelon give interviews and speeches, controlling everything from content to lighting,” she said.
According to Attkisson, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) use millions of taxpayer dollars to expand or create their own television studios. Attkisson said the FDA has a studio that can fit a live audience of 100 people and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has a studio with Hitachi high-definition cameras and LCD-based teleprompters.
