GOP candidates fight lawsuit over Facebook pages

The Romney, Santorum and Gingrich campaigns set aside their differences Friday to fire off a joint letter demanding a California techie drop his lawsuit against them over their Facebook pages. - Patriot Update

The lawsuit alleges that 4 million Facebook users are violating EveryMD’s patent, but Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich are the only named plaintiffs. Weyer had initially sued Facebook and MySpace for patent infringement, prompting the companies to ask for a re-examination of the group’s patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, which rejected EveryMD’s claims.

Though EveryMD is appealing the office’s decision, it was enough to prompt a judge to dismiss the case against Facebook and MySpace – hence the long-shot suit against the presidential candidates and others.
