Sen. Tim Scott credits his single mother for his rise from poverty to the national stage

At this point, most of us are aware that the NAACP is little more than a well-organized race-baiting organization. They yell "racism" in order to keep black voters loyal to the Democrats and collect gobs of cash to support the effort. That's basically all they're about.

Still, it seems that there are some poor, unfortunate, souls who've convinced themselves that the organization is interested in the actual "advancement" of "colored people." Since there were two historic races that were won by African-American Republicans on Tuesday night, these poor saps thought that maybe, just maybe, the NAACP would take a second to notice.

Townhall has reached out again via email to see if the NAACP will like to specifically comment on Love and Scott’s wins last Tuesday, which made history.

Tim Scott: The Republican Party is the real party of diversity

"The GOP really has become the Great Opportunity Party," Scott told NBC's David Gregory on "Meet the Press" in an interview Sunday....

He also said the GOP's multiple responses to President Obama's State of the Union address were a sign of strength, not weakness.

"The reason why the party continues to grow is because we like the diversity of ideas, and when we've had that diversity of ideas, it helps us to build the best party for the future," he said. "At the end of the day, what America needs is a party that is as diverse as the Republican Party — that is why the great opportunity for our future comes out of the GOP."

ABC, CBS IGNORE HISTORIC APPOINTMENT OF ONLY AFRICAN AMERICAN SENATOR

◼ On Monday, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley announced that she was appointing U.S. Congressman Tim Scott to the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Jim DeMint. When he is sworn in on January 3, Scott will be the lone African American of either party in the Senate but this historic news didn't seem to interest ABC or CBS as neither mentioned the news that night. - Warner Todd Huston/Breitbart

One would think that the "diversity" of this story alone would be of interest to the big networks. After all, we have a female Governor who is the daughter of Sikh immigrants appointing the only African American to the Senate. We also have a Senate seat that is famed for having once been occupied by Strom Thurmond, a one-time Dixiecrat, segregationist turned repentant Republican. And we have the first black Senator from a southern state since Blanche Bruce of Mississippi in 1881. This is almost "diversity" overload.

Perhaps one mitigating factor for the old networks is that all of this "diversity" was wrought by Republicans?

To its credit, NBC did spend some time on this historic appointment. A whole 24 seconds.

The Democratic Party incorporated black voters into the fold after championing civil rights legislation in the 1960s, then gradually made room for black elected officials. It diversified from the ground up. Republicans are working in the opposite direction. The party rank and file is overwhelmingly white. But Republican elected officials are increasingly diverse. Scott will join Cuban-American Republicans Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz in the Senate. And in addition to Haley, Republicans can point to Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, and Governors Brian Sandoval of Nevada and Susana Martinez of New Mexico.

◼ Scott will replace Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), who is leaving the chamber in January to head up the conservative Heritage Foundation.

“It is with great pleasure that I am announcing our next U.S. senator to be Congressman Tim Scott,” Haley said. “I am strongly convinced that the entire state understands that this is the right U.S. senator for our state and our country.”

Sen.-designate Scott, 47, will become the only African-American currently serving in the Senate and the first black Republican to serve in the upper chamber since the 1970s. He will also be the first black senator from the South since Reconstruction.
