... the problems we are confronting reflect deeper dangers than the professional corruption of some functionaries of corrupt executive agencies armed with the coercive power of the state. The true moral of the story is the dangers to freedom of centralized and concentrated power––the very dangers consensual governments, including our own, were created to minimize.

The issue of political bias, which the IG report scanted, has to be understood in the larger nature of the large-scale bureaucratic public institutions that comprise the Deep State. In other words, the structure and functioning of the institution itself creates a bias that selects progressive employees. The bias insidiously becomes a second nature of which they often are no more conscious than a fish is that it’s wet....

Democrats Decry Income Inequality That Their Own Policies Make Worse



Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and leftists in general love to talk about income inequality. What they don't want to talk about is how their own tax-and-spend prescriptions are largely to blame.

At this week's Republican debate, Rand Paul said something that should have caught those paying attention by surprise. When asked about rising income inequality, he said:

"I think that we ought to look where income inequality seems to be the worst. It seems to be worst in cities run by Democrats, states run by Democrats and countries currently run by Democrats. .. . The bottom line is: If you want less income inequality, move to a city with a Republican mayor or a state with a Republican governor."

It's the sort of statement that normally would have elicited a barrage of attacks from the press of the "can you believe what he just said" variety.
But it turns out that Sen. Paul was right, and even the mainstream media are grudgingly acknowledging it....

Legal Immigrants Outraged At Obama’s Enabling of Illegals: A “Stinging Slap in the Face”

My desire to come to the United States was born out of ambition, not desperation. I stood in every line there was, beginning at the U.S. Embassy in my native India and then here, filled out every form that needed to be filled out, and made copies and certified copies of all the documents that were needed to prove that I was who I said I was.

At every point I was warned that if I lied or falsified information or tried to find work other than the job I was authorized to do in the U.S. there would be serious consequences. In particular I was warned about the rather grave repercussions if I chose to stay here illegally....

I have been here for seven years and have been married to a U.S. citizen for a little over three years. The reason I am still on a visa is that I signed a clause with the U.S. government that said that I would work in a medically underserved area for a total of three years after my medical-residency training here, and that I wouldn't be able to wiggle out of this commitment even if I married a U.S. citizen. My wife and I often joke that if I came here illegally and married her then I would at least have had a green card by now....

People in my situation also probably represent the most law-abiding segment of the population. Any skirmish with the law—even one not involving violence—can result in loss of working privileges and possible deportation. A recent New York Times NYT +0.08% article about how legal immigrants' applications are being stalled because the officials who process files are overwhelmed with applications for deportation deferrals was a stinging slap in the face to all of those who chose to do the right thing and get here by following the rules.

California is home to the most regulations and the highest tax and public debt burdens in America. It is also number one in the country in poverty. Those results go hand-in-hand and are courtesy of California’s big government mentality.

To attract jobs, ever so occasionally the Democrat run legislature and Governor Jerry Brown apply common sense, by selectively lowering costs for certain businesses. Tesla is the latest apple of their selective eye. The real question is: Why don’t they apply such common sense to the entire state economy and lift California from its troubles?

...Figuring out how we can lift the economy out of its now six-year-long rut should be the paramount goal of those concerned with rising inequality.

The debate over inequality isn’t going away anytime soon, since liberals have taken Obama’s lead and chosen it as their policy battleground leading up to 2016.

When going up against a familiar opponent, it’s always comforting to know which play they’re going to call. When it comes to inequality, liberals will call the same play in 2016 they called for in 1916.

Conservatives know what’s coming. They should have a superior defense ready for deployment.

From President Obama to Paul Krugman, Thomas Piketty to Elizabeth Warren, the Left has adopted “inequality” as the cause of the day. They paint a picture of a new Gilded Age in which a hereditary American gentry becomes ever richer, while the vast majority of Americans toil away in near-Dickensian poverty. It’s a compelling political narrative, one that can be used to advance any number of policy proposals, from higher taxes to increases in the minimum wage.

Unfortunately, bad facts make for bad policy. Let’s look at just some of the ways they get it wrong....

There is good reason for this country to have a debate over issues such as how best to reduce poverty and increase middle-class incomes. But beating the inequality drum will do little to contribute to that debate.

Politics, like fashion, is a matter of whims, of fast-changing impulses, of consensus that has all the staying power of New England weather. In fashion as in politics one must know which clothes to wear, which opinions to have in hand. A commonly accepted accessory, like a commonly accepted opinion, is a badge of membership in the tribe. The wrong choice, the sartorial misstep, the injudicious comment mark one as an outlier, out of sync with his environment, disconnected from the currents of opinion that govern the world....

Today that sense has given us a politics of poverty, inequality, and social justice, and has launched political celebrities such as de Blasio and Elizabeth Warren and Barack Obama. But fashion is fickle. Trends vanish. And the next fad might not fit the New York Times’ definition of haute politique.

The rich do not pay the most taxes, they pay ALL the taxes

Buried inside a Congressional Budget Office report this week was this nugget: when it comes to individual income taxes, the top 40 percent of wage earners in America pay 106 percent of the taxes. The bottom 40 percent...pay negative 9 percent.

You read that right. One group is paying more than 100 percent of individual income taxes, the other is paying less than zero.
