Vatican to UN: Authorize military force to stop ISIS genocide
Last summer, Pope Francis issued a stunning call for global action against ISIS, but stopped short of a demand for war. The pontiff carefully explained that the world needed to “stop the unjust aggressor,” that force might be required to do so, and that the proper venue for such action would be the United Nations. “One single nation cannot judge how he is to be stopped, how an unjust aggressor is to be stopped,” Francis told a plane full of reporters as he left South Korea, but insisted that “it is legitimate to stop the unjust aggressor.”
Yesterday, on the second anniversary of Pope Francis’ election, the Vatican made it much more explicit. The world must come together in force to stop the genocides of ISIS, in what Crux’s John Allen called “an unusually blunt endorsement of military action”:
“We have to stop this kind of genocide,” said Italian Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, the Vatican’s representative in Geneva. “Otherwise we’ll be crying out in the future about why we didn’t so something, why we allowed such a terrible tragedy to happen.”In other words, we seem to have moved from what Allen described as a “yellow light” last summer to a very bright, flashing green light. Needless to say, this is not just “unusually blunt,” it’s unusually hawkish for the Vatican...
Tomasi said that any anti-ISIS coalition has to include the Muslim states of the Middle East, and can’t simply be a “Western approach.” He also said it should unfold under the aegis of the United Nations.
The call for force is striking, given that the Vatican traditionally has opposed military interventions in the Middle East, including the two US-led Gulf Wars. It builds, however, on comments from Pope Francis that the use of force is “legitimate … to stop an unjust aggressor.” …
“It will be up the United Nations and its member states, especially the Security Council, to determine the exact form of intervention necessary,” he said, “but some responsibility [to act] is clear.”

Canon Andrew White, known as the Vicar of Baghdad, called the situation in Iraq "the worst reality of religious persecution since the Holocaust," and as CNSNews.com has documented, the Islamic State has beheaded children and conducted public crucifixions.
Amnesty International released a 26-page report "that provides harrowing new evidence" of the Islamic State's "ethnic cleansing on a historic scale," the "systematic targeting of ethnic and religious minorities," along with dozens of eyewitness accounts of gruesome mass executions within Iraq.
Survivors recount horrific massacres of men and boys by Islamic State fighters in northern Iraq and the Sinjar region. Women and children are captured, enslaved, raped or sold into sexual slavery. Thousands, feared to have been abducted, have not been heard from again. Over 830,000 people have been driven from their homes in fear of their lives.
"The Islamic State is carrying out despicable crimes and has transformed rural areas of Sinjar into blood-soaked killing fields in its brutal campaign to obliterate all trace of non- Arabs and non-Sunni Muslims," Donatella Rovera, Senior Adviser to Amnesty International said Tuesday....
"The unjustifiable killings [of journalists Sotloff and Foley] are merely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to abuses by the IS in Syria and Iraq," said Philip Luther, Director of Amnesty International's Middle East and North Africa Programme. "Efforts must also be made to seek justice for the hundreds of other victims of the Islamic State's crimes, and protect the minority groups that remain most at risk from their attacks."
“A genocide is unfolding against Syrians and other minorities across Syria and Iraq’s national borders,” Nuri Kino, a Swedish-Assyrian investigative journalist wrote today. “And the rest of the world… are silent bystanders to this horror.”

Rumors of military coup in Iraq as Prime Minister Maliki defies planned regime change
◼ "This situation is far more grave than just the 'humanitarian' crisis President Obama declared he intended to address..." - The Daily Signal
...The administration faces three daunting tasks. It must continue to support the Kurds, who are doing the brunt of the fighting against. The U.S. must support Jordan. A stable Jordan is key to containing the spiraling conflict. Further, the U.S. must move quickly, pressing to reestablishing a legitimate government in Baghdad. If the White House can’t achieve these tasks there is little hope that the region can be spared a bloody, vicious and dangerous civil war.
Iraqi MP Pleads: Save Yazidis from Genocide
◼ ‘My People Are Being Slaughtered!’ Iraqi Parliamentarian, Archbishop Confirm ISIS Committing ‘Genocide’ - CNS
An Iraqi Member of Parliament named Vian Dakhil made an impassioned plea before the Iraqi Parliament Tuesday, begging them in tears to save the Yazidis from genocide, and a Syrian Orthodox Archbisop confirmed the atrocities being committed in two videos translated by MEMRI TV....
“What is happening today in Iraq is genocide,” said Archbishop Daoud unequivocally. He said he kept silent out of fear of reprisals against Christians that remained in Mosul, but: “now there are no longer any Christians in Mosul, they have been driven from their homes and forced, in an arbitrary, terrorist and brutal manner to leave the city…”
“What is happening, or what has happened to us… to all the Christians of all sects in Mosul can be described in a single word: genocide. That’s right. I’d like to emphasize the word ‘genocide’ or ‘ethnic cleansing,’” said Archbishop Daoud.

'They have vicious plans for them': Fears for hundreds of Yazidi 'slave' women captured by ISIS fanatics in Iraq
GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING: This story contains images of death that some readers may find disturbing
The Obama administration has reached what one might call the ‘Pol Pot Aftermath’ of its Middle Eastern policy....ISIS is massacring the Yezhidis, people who practice “the original religion of the Kurds. ” What is worse, according to the New Yorker magazine, this massacre is genocide.
Of course the Yazidis are not alone in facing extermination. For the first time in nearly 2,000 years there are no Christians in Mosul. What no power of evil has been able to be accomplish in two millenia was achieved in a trice by the most moral administration in American history; perhaps by accident, perhaps by carelessness, perhaps even by design, but achieved nonetheless. Whichever way you look at it, that’s awesome.
The entire map of the Middle East has been transformed into a 21st century version of the European Bloodlands. But the most remarkable thing is this catastrophe was enabled in a fit of moral superiority. Roger Kimball, speaking to an audience in Sydney observed that most striking property of modern political correctness was narcissism. For the ultimate source of leftist legitimacy is the view that they are better simply persons than the rest; able to make moral judgments no one else can. Their self-regard is almost erotic. They’re in love with themselves. Or to paraphrase one the president’s campaign lines: ‘we are the people the world has been waiting for.’
We’re ready for our moral close-ups.
Something of this present tragedy was foreshadowed in the casual way with which the Left regarded the exodus of the boat people from Vietnam and the Cambodian Killing Fields as collateral damage; something ironic in an anti-war movement that finishes up empowering the greatest seaborne exodus in the history of the world and the massacre of millions.
But if there’s irony it escapes them. After all, ‘how could we have known,’ they ask, ‘that the people we supported were murderers? We meant well.’
