Trump nominates Neil Gorsuch as Supreme Court Justice







Neil Gorsuch and Thomas Hardiman are considered the two most likely nominees to fill the Scalia Seat.

The gossip (i.e. media reports based on conversations with unnamed “sources”) claim it’s Gorsuch. Regardless of the choice — or if Trump pulls a surprise — Democrats have promise a fight to the death. They need to put on a show for the base. So it looks like this is going to go nuclear option.

Trump has played this masterfully, with the networks breaking into their nightly schedules for the announcement. He will have a yuge audience.

Don't be fooled by phony "Republican Taxpayers Assn"



PHONY TAX GROUP IS MISLEADING VOTERS ABOUT MATHIS’ RECORD

Consultants for hire are using a made-up, non-existent taxpayer group to attack Assemblyman Devon Mathis. In a direct mail campaign, Sacramento political consultants employed to deny Mathis reelection, have been using the name “California Republican Taxpayers Association” to make false charges that the Assemblyman is anti-taxpayer.

“The ‘California Republican Taxpayers Association’ is a fake, a phony, a fantasy” said Jon Coupal, President of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association. “It’s a figment of the imagination of unscrupulous, well-paid political consultants, who are the only taxpayers represented by this imaginary group.”

The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association PAC has reaffirmed its endorsement of Devon Mathis based on his excellent record on tax issues. Mathis represents the communities of Bakersfield, Delano, Dinuba, Hanford, Lindsay, Porterville, Tulare, and Visalia.

In a conference call to his biggest supporters Monday morning, Rubio told his top donors that he is running for president because he feels “uniquely qualified” to pitch his Republican Party as one that will defend the American Dream.

According to Rubio’s press team, more than 3,500 supporters had requested tickets by the close of registration for a venue that holds only a thousand. To cater for the expected masses, the Rubio team set up a giant screen in an adjacent parking lot. As for the media, Rubio’s event has attracted 190 requests for credentials from 65 outlets.

Humboldt County Republican committee adds three members

With the addition of three new members at its Nov. 3 meeting, Humboldt County's Republican Central Committee has come to full strength of 23, plus three ex-officio members (or their designated alternates).

New members elected at the meeting were George Benzel, Carlotta, a one-time committee chairman; Rebecca Crosby, Eureka, homemaker; and Byron (Bud) Simpson, Eureka, owner of a personnel services business.

”This is the first time in recent years that the Republican committee has been at full strength,” said Peter Hannaford, committee chairman.

Plans were also announced for the committee's first Holiday Treats sale, offering pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving, pumpkin and pecan pies and cinnamon rolls for Christmas and specially developed Bella Baskets. Volunteer party bakers will provide pies and rolls. All items will be available through the party's local website, www.humboldtgop.org, and by direct mail. ◼ The Times-Standard

AUTHOR, CIVIL RIGHTS LEADER CONNERLY TO ADDRESS REPUBLICAN DINNER

Ward Connerly, author and leader of efforts to require equal treatment of all in public education, employment and contracting, will be the keynote speaker at the Humboldt County Republican Party’s Reagan Centennial/Republican-of-the-Year dinner on Thursday, June 23.

As a member of the University of California Board of Regents, Connerly led a majority of the board to vote to end UCs use of race as a means of admissions. He then served as chairman of the California Civil Rights Initiative campaign (Prop. 209 in 1996), which passed by 55-to-45 percent. He led efforts to pass similar state initiatives in Michigan, Nebraska and Washington.
He is president of the American Civil Rights Institute, a non-profit organization the objective of which is to “educate the public about the need to move beyond race and, specifically, racial and gender preferences.”

He is the author of “Creating Equal: My Fight Against Race Preferences” and a new book, “Lessons From My Uncle James: Beyond Skin Color to the Content of Our Character.”

He describes it as “one part memoir, one part moral guide” that sets forth “a new starting point for the discussion about character that America must have in order to move beyond race for good.”

At the dinner, civic leader Dennis Hunter will be honored as Republican of the Year. He served four terms as an elected board member of the Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation & Conservation District; served on the Redwood Region Economic Development Commission from 1992-2007 and on several community boards including Easter Seals and the Greater Eureka Chamber of Commerce.

Honored as Volunteer of the Year will be Karen Brooks, a businesswoman, wife and mother who became active in politics for the first time in 2010 as the party’s nominee for the First Assembly District seat. The program also will include a centennial tribute to the late President Ronald Reagan.

“We are very pleased to honor two fine Humboldt County citizens and to have such a compelling speaker as Ward Connerly,” said Peter Hannaford, chairman. Invited dinner guests will gather at the Ingomar Club for the event.

New Central Committee announced

◼ HUMBOLDT REPUBLICANS ELECT LEADERS FOR 2011-12

Peter Hannaford will lead the Humboldt Republican Party, having been elected chairman of its central committee for 2011-12 at its organizational meeting Thursday.

Hannaford, who was closely associated with the late President Ronald Reagan for a number of years, returned to California and settled in Eureka in 2006 after 22 years in Washington, D.C. Other officers are Joy Finley, Eureka, first vice chairman; David Crane, Fortuna, second vice chairman; Verona ´Vee' Sorenson, Arcata, secretary; and Kathy Rodriguez, McKinleyville, treasurer.

In addition to the officers, County Elections Chief Carolyn Crnich conducted the swearing-in ceremony of members Mark Erdmann, Eureka; Jean Giannini, Fortuna; Sharon Pierson, Eureka; Sam Trumbull, Arcata; Parke Bostrom, Eureka; Tim Trutna, Eureka; and Kathy Rodriguez, McKinleyville, alternate for ex officio member Loren Hanks.

“Women in Numbers, Building the Team”

◼ Humboldt Republican women speaker to advocate for more women candidates
Murriel Oles, president of the California Federation of Republican Women, Northern Division, will speak at the Nov. 18 meeting of Humboldt Republican Women Federated.

Her topic, “Women in Numbers, Building the Team,” will center on the merit of members of HRWF running for office and the role to be played by supporting members of HRWF as their campaign teams. There will be time for a question and answer session.
