Not All Democrats Are Fans Of Obama And Elizabeth Warren's Lurch To The Left

Obama cannot discount the shrinking centrist group because they can cross the aisle and hand the new GOP's new Senate majority victories on everything from the Keystone XL oil pipeline and banking reforms, to dismantling Obamacare.

Will Marshall, a founder of the New Democrat centrist movement and president of the Progressive Policy Institute, said he viewed Obama’s veto threat as a first positioning shot.

Republicans, he said, are “obsessed” with Keystone, which would boost Canadian energy companies more than American ones because the pipeline would simply carry oil from Alberta to the gulf for export.

Still, he urged Obama to get into “good, old-fashioned horse-trading” and use Keystone to bargain for something else, such as building the oil and gas production infrastructure, or possibly for GOP agreement to pass a gas tax.

He warned Obama and Democratic leaders not to keep alienating centrists or face the consequences in the 2016 presidential election.

Republicans, Marshall said, are showing signs that they are “sobering up politically” and positioning themselves to appeal to a larger swath of voters than they did in the 2012 presidential contest.

“It would be foolish to disrespect the moderates who embrace a more growth oriented agenda because that’s what this party needs if Democrats are going to expand their appeal to moderate voters … voters who are going to be essential in putting together a winning coalition in 2016.

“They are going to have to be more credible and present themselves as a party of growth and shared prosperity not simply class warfare and redistribution,” he said.

Schindler Didn’t Disprove Nazi Anti-Semitism, Lassana Bathily Doesn’t Disprove Islamic Anti-Semitism

◼ Oskar Schindler was a member of the Nazi Party who saved over a thousand Jews. He wasn’t the only one. Major Karl Plagge, an early Nazi Party member, never subscribed to its racial theories and worked to save Jews. Citing Schindler or Plagge, who liked much of the Nazi agenda, but didn’t like the killing Jews part of it, does not make Nazism good. It doesn’t disprove the existence of genocidal Nazi anti-Semitism.

If Lassana Bathily, the Muslim worker who reportedly saved a number of Jews during the Muslim attack on a Kosher supermarket, did everything he reportedly did, then he’s a hero.

He’s a hero just like Schindler or Plagge were heroes. It doesn’t mean that a genocidal Islamic anti-Semitism that has been killing Jews for over a thousand years no longer exists.

It doesn’t mean that Islam isn’t inherently anti-Semitic. There is no question that it is.

The reason we respect people like Schindler is not just because they were heroes, but because they defied their society and culture to do the right thing....

If Islam really were a Religion of Peace, then a Muslim saving Jews would not be an extraordinary newsworthy event. Instead the media is using Bathilys’ story to silence the fact that Jews in France are subject to Muslim massacres on a regular basis.

And that’s as bad as using Schindler’s story to whitewash Nazism and pretend the Holocaust never happened.

Egyptian President al-Sisi to the world’s rescue?


◼ He stifled Muslim Brotherhood’s “Reign of Terror” While Reaching Out to Copts. - Le-gal In-sur-rec-tion

In a truly groundbreaking speech made shortly before the terror attacks in Paris, Egypt’s General-turned-President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said that Islam was, “…in need of a religious revolution.”

In response to the tragic events, he condemned the the slaughter that left 12 dead on Wednesday and pledged Cairo’s support to fight terrorism.

The Egyptian leader expressed his condolences to his French counterpart Francois Hollande, the families of the victims and the wounded, his office said in a statement. Sisi, in a telegram sent to Hollande, “expressed the Egyptian people and government’s condemnation over the terrorist act that the French capital Paris witnessed today,” the statement said.

Offering his condolences to the victims’ families and the wounded, Sisi said “terrorism is an international phenomenon that should be faced and terminated through joint international efforts”....

Based on these recent developments, Washington Times columnist Charels Ortel suggests that Egypt may be able to lead the way to victory in “War on Terror”. Ortel cites both Sisi’s extremely aggressive actions in ending the Muslim Brotherhood’s “Reign of Terror” in that country and efforts to assure targeted religious minorities that they will be protected.

Recently this year, the fully engaged leader of Egypt began a drive to reform Islam from within.

His address to religious authorities at Al-Azhar University in Cairo on Jan. 1 is a stunning “must-read” and “must-share” development that only now is getting attention it so richly deserves.

Wednesday, President el-Sisi put in a public appearance at a Christmas mass in Cairo-an historic first in Egypt’s modern history.

Working with allies including Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates, el-Sisi is channeling foreign capital into a raft of development programs that may finally spark economic progress inside Egypt, while cutting off external funding from states such as Qatar who until recently had been supporting the Muslim Brotherhood worldwide.
