As for President Obama, he never was Charlie, not even for those 48 hours.

On Sunday, at the great Paris rally, the whole world was Charlie. By Tuesday, the veneer of solidarity was exposed as tissue thin. It began dissolving as soon as the real, remaining Charlie Hebdo put out its post-massacre issue featuring a Muhammad cover that, as the New York Times put it, “reignited the debate pitting free speech against religious sensitivities.”

Again? Already? Had not 4 million marchers and 44 foreign leaders just turned out on the streets of France to declare “No” to intimidation, and pledging solidarity, indeed identification (“Je suis Charlie”) with a satirical weekly specializing in the most outrageous and often tasteless portrayals of Muhammad? And yet, within 48 hours, the new Charlie Hebdo issue featuring the image of Muhammad — albeit a sorrowful, indeed sympathetic Muhammad — sparked new protests, denunciations and threats of violence, which in turn evinced another round of doubt and self-flagellation in the West about the propriety and limits of free expression. Hopeless.....

As for President Obama, he never was Charlie, not even for those 48 hours. From the day of the massacre, he has been practically invisible. At the interstices of various political rallies, he issued bits of muted, mealy-mouthed boilerplate....

Administration Official: Obama Watched Football on Sunday

◼ According to an unnamed administration official, President Obama spent the day of the Paris Unity March watching the NFL playoffs on TV. Although at this time the White House Press office has not responded to requests seeking confirmation that this is what he was doing. - MRC TV

Both President Obama and Vice President Biden’s official White House schedules were empty on Sunday and the weather here in DC was pretty lousy so it was unlikely that Obama hit the golf course.

“The White House cited security concerns and the fact that the rally came together quickly, in about 36 hours. Earnest said presidential or vice presidential security for events such as the march are ‘onerous’ and have a ‘significant impact’ on those who attend,” The Washington Post reported. “A Secret Service official said the agency was not asked or notified about a potential trip to Paris.”

...“No White House likes to admit being wrong,” Politico reported on Monday. “This White House especially has a tendency to respond to political and media criticism by digging in.”

President Obama honored the NBA champions, the San Antonio Spurs, at the White House Monday, but joked that he almost sent in the second team, Vice President Biden, to host the event to keep himself "fresh for the State of the Union."

Greta Van Susteren: This is terrible -- WHERE IS PRESIDENT OBAMA? Why did he not join 40+ world leaders in Paris today? He sent a lame duck Attorney General to represent us (not even the Vice President!) This is a huge blunder....very sad for Americans that our President did not represent us with these other world leaders.
