Labor unions want to cut all ties with billionaire Tom Steyer, creating a split in labor that could spell trouble for the climate activist's push to undermine presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump.

The unions are responding to the creation of a political super PAC that Steyer announced last week with the AFL-CIO labor federation to defeat Trump in the run-up to the general election in November.

In a letter sent Monday to AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, a contingent of individual unions explained why aligning with Steyer harms their core mission and should be ended immediately.

"We write to you today in order to clear up any ambiguity about our involvement and directly inform you that we will not participate with this new super PAC in any manner," the letter reads. "Compromising our core mission as trade unionists sworn to advocate for the economic well being of our membership as a tradeoff for a perceived short-term political gain is utterly disappointing and cannot be supported by the undersigned organizations."

"Furthermore, we respectfully request that the AFL-CIO cut ties with Mr. Steyer and his political operation as we do not want any of our members' financial support for the federation to be used against them and their economic well being in pursuit of this endeavor," the letter reads, signed by the heads of eight of the largest building trade unions in the nation.

...Steyer fought vigorously to defeat the Keystone XL Pipeline project, which many unions supported as a job-creator.

"The stated rationale for this fund as published in press reports does nothing to assuage concerns that the AFL-CIO has now officially become infiltrated by financial and political interests that work in direct conflict to many of our members' — and yes, AFL-CIO dues paying members' lives," the letter says.

"This is a disturbing development and one that requires a further explanation."

"Steyer has shied away from taking responsibility for, or being critical of, these dismal results, even though one of his top advisors serves on the Proposition 39 oversight committee that, ironically, has yet to meet."

A decade ago, former CBS News correspondent Bernard Goldberg authored a book titled 100 People Who Are Screwing Up America. If Goldberg were writing today about Californians, he would no doubt include billionaire Tom Steyer near the top of the list.

Steyer achieved his extreme wealth as a hedge fund manager, an uber capitalist whose profitable investments have included oil, gas and coal.

In 2012, he separated from the management of his company – he still owns shares – and committed to a “green” agenda. He became the leading sponsor and financial backer of Proposition 39 on the 2012 ballot, which was sold as pro-environmental reform measure virtually guaranteeing its passage by Californians understandably concerned about the environment. Proposition 39 increased taxes on businesses — those evil companies that provide so many Americans their jobs — and directed the money be put into something called The Clean Jobs Energy Fund. Steyer promised it would bring in $550 million and create 11,000 jobs per year. But a recent investigation by the Associated Press reveals that it has raised less than 60 percent of that amount over three years, and has created only 1,700 jobs mostly for consultants and auditors.

Steyer has shied away from taking responsibility for, or being critical of, these dismal results, even though one of his top advisors serves on the Proposition 39 oversight committee that, ironically, has yet to meet.

However, Steyer continues to insert himself and his views into the political arena. In 2014, he spent $57 million of his personal fortune in support of out-of-state candidates for the Senate and governor, most of whom lost. And there is talk of his being a candidate for governor in 2018.

That’s the price tag at two Hollywood events slated for Clinton on May 7, a luncheon at the home of TV producer Steven Bochco and his wife, Dayna, and a dinner at the home of Power Rangers magnate Haim Saban and his wife, Cheryl.

The Sabans, in particular, are longtime Clinton friends and supporters, who have been raising and giving money to both Bill and Hillary Clinton for 20 years....

Another undercurrent in the latest fundraising efforts here is the lingering bad blood caused by the defection of some big Clinton donors – most notably, Geffen – to Barack Obama in 2008. Most of those donors are now back in the Clinton fold, but some are notably unenthusiastic.

The media pretends that the Left’s benefactors aren’t really that rich, you know. Nothing like the KOCH BROTHERS FINANCIAL BEHEMOTH. In this post alone, the writer lets Steyer’s NextGen PAC play coy about how much it will spend, while quoting a NextGen memo decrying “the Koch brothers’ unprecedented campaign spending…” In reality, Steyer spent almost $69 million more than the Koch brothers in the last election cycle.

But it’s the Koch name that everyone knows, because the media keep screaming it from the rooftops. Harry Reid spent much of the time he was getting his butt kicked by the mob (exercise bands, whatever) on the Senate floor accusing the Kochs pretty much influencing the entire electoral process in America.

Steyer’s name, on the other hand, is rarely mentioned in the media. He’s practically a publicity ghost. Hell, his name didn’t even make it into the headline of the Reuters post. They referred to him as “green donor.” In fact, the Koch brothers get mentioned twice as many times as Steyer does in the article, and it’s about him.

Tom Steyer is the $74 million elephant in the room and the press barely knows his name or acknowledges his existence.

Wise GOP presidential candidates would do well to mention him often.

Brown Administration Tied To Scandal That Took Down Oregon Governor

Corruption and scandal resulting in the recent resignation of Democratic Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber, appears to be just the tip of a very big iceberg. The ho-hum media coverage of the story made it sound like just another unscrupulous governor and first lady. But the Kitzhaber scandal has evolved into much more — multiple governors and high-level staff involved in shady green energy deals, with national entanglements.

Washington D.C. attorney Chris Horner discovered ingrained collusion with top level staff in Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber’s office who enlisted other top level staff in California and Washington State governors’ offices to “spread climate coordination and collaboration to a larger group of governors across the U.S.”

Emails from 2013 and 2014 reveal Kitzhaber agreed to a deal with the governors of California and Washington, to implement low-carbon fuel standards and develop a scheme to foist green-energy agendas on multiple states.

Oregon’s “first lady” Cylvia Hayes played a key role in pushing the progressive climate policies of her fiance, Kitzhaber, in exchange for consulting contracts and funding from people involved in energy and environmental policy....

In October 2013, California Gov. Jerry Brown, together with the Governors of Oregon and Washington and the British Columbia Premier, signed the Pacific Coast Action Plan on Climate and Energy, “to align climate change policies and promote clean energy.” The Pacific Coast Collaborative links with the West Coast Infrastructure Exchange (WCX), a compact between California, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia, formed in 2013 to promote “the type of new thinking necessary to solve the West Coast’s infrastructure crisis.” And the WCX is linked to the Clinton Foundation’s Clinton Global Initiative.

“California isn’t waiting for the rest of the world before it takes action on climate change,” said Gov. Brown. “Today, California, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia are all joining together to reduce greenhouse gases.”

The real Kitzhaber plan revealed high level appointees in the California governor’s office, other “engaged governors,” and the White House, engrossed in a scheme to define “a nationally coordinated, multi-year states strategy’ focused on driving outcomes contemplated by the President’s climate action plan, 111d, resilient infrastructure and international treaty objectives at scale.”

...This scheme was made possible with funding from “major environmental donors,” billionaires Tom Steyer and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, according to Horner.

...In another long line of leftstream biases, the news of Kitzhaber’s demise has been all but ignored by old media, and there’s a very good reason.

Analysis performed by Newsbusters, ABC News’ David Muir spent only 17 seconds reporting on Kitzhaber, while CBS News’ Scott Pelley only gave the huge story 20 seconds time.

The reason? Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber is a Democrat you see. In fact, on the CBS Evening News, Pelley conveniently failed to mention Kitzhaber’s affiliation with the Democrat Party.

Rest assured that if Kitzhaber were a Republican, his party affiliation would have been shouted from the rooftops and the story would have received much more coverage than a 20-second flyover.

...Take the Steyer brothers, who pledge some of their many hundreds of millions to stop fracking, natural gas use, pipelines, etc., and yet whose firms made much of their billions financing coal plants in the former Third World. Then there is the multimillionaire Rep. Nancy Pelosi praising the idea of de facto open borders from one of her many tony homes. Sen. Barbara Boxer has usually opposed finishing the second and third phase infrastructure of the various state and federal water projects — and then moved to Rancho Mirage, a desert retreat for largely white (90% plus) multimillionaires, whose beautiful artificial lakes and numerous golf courses are not predicated on its 3-4 inches of rain per year, but instead on multibillion-dollar infrastructure that allows water diversions from the Colorado River.

Diversity is a popular coastal concept — for others. The three most powerful elected federal representatives of a state (Senator Barbara Boxer, Senator Dianne Feinstein and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi) with the largest percentage of Latino residents, with the greatest number of residents under the poverty line and with the largest percentage of residents on welfare are three Bay Area liberal multimillionaire women in their seventies. In current liberal parlance, that is a demographic hardly reflective of their constituents’ ethnic, gender, age, class, or geographical diversity.

I respectfully suggest that one of the most productive agricultural valleys in the world couldn’t possibly be sacrificed in the name of politics — there’s a population base, functioning towns.

“No,” Vidak counters. “People in New York or Boise, Idaho, don’t care where their produce comes from.” The valley of farmers could go away, and so long as the product came from elsewhere no one would care.

He tells me a story of a local food bank. It was mid-summer and the men in line would be working if so much land wasn’t left unfarmed due to the water crisis. If that wasn’t bad enough, he noticed the food bank was handing out cans of carrots grown in China.

“Carrots from China,” Vidak says. “All while we have two of the largest carrot growers in the world down here. That’s just wrong.”

Democrat billionaire Tom Steyer has donated more than $20 million to candidates and outside groups to influence this year’s election, making him the top individual contributor in 2014. And that’s just a fraction of the $50 million Steyer has said he’s willing to spend.

The San Francisco-based environmental activist built his fortune through the Farallon Capital hedge fund he founded in 1986. As he was amassing his warchest, Steyer enjoyed close ties to the Democratic Party and one particular influential Californian: Nancy Pelosi.

Pelosi, the former House speaker who currently serves as Democratic leader, has used her Washington perch to boost some of Steyer’s projects with government aid.

In total, Steyer has benefited from more than $1 billion in taxpayer money. According to her own press releases, Pelosi is responsible for a share of that total....

in November 2004, Farallon bought undeveloped real estate at Mission Bay in San Francisco from Catellus Group for $343 million. This purchase also included properties in Southern California.

The deal provided Farallon with roughly 2 million square feet of commercial space in Mission Bay, a hotel near SBC Park, where the San Francisco Giants play, and residential sites in close proximity to Mission Bay Channel....

In October 2012, Pelosi unveiled an agreement that would provide $942 million in federal funds to establish a transportation link between Mission Bay and downtown San Francisco....

This was not the first time the former House speaker stepped in on behalf of Steyer’s project.

In June 2012, Pelosi released a statement boasting about the $10 million in stimulus funds she secured for transportation infrastructure in Mission Bay’s biotech cluster and the University of California-San Francisco hospital....

Pelosi’s history with Mission Bay goes back even further.

In 2007, she earmarked $25 million for a “project for repair and removal, as appropriate, of Piers 30-32, 35, 36, 70 (including Wharves 7 and 8), and 80 in San Francisco, California, substantially in accordance with the Port’s redevelopment plan,” according to the congressional record. Parts of this project are located next to FOCIL’s Mission Bay development.

In 2006, Pelosi also announced a $24.5 million grant to expand transportation and boost development in Mission Bay....

Pelosi’s office did not respond to The Daily Signal’s request for comment.
