Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement

Tonight at sundown is the start of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, when Jews around the world will fast and pray for God’s gracious forgiveness. At the close of the Yom Kippur service tomorrow evening, a long blast of the shofar will sound, marking the end of the holiest day on the Jewish calendar and the close of the High Holy Days.
