The Occupy Eureka group had re-established its camp in front of the courthouse on Friday, roughly four days after the Eureka Police Department first raided the site. Police arrested 13 people on suspicion of obstruction of justice on Nov. 7.

Following those arrests, the county put temporary fences around the courthouse lawn along with no camping signs. Last Monday night, protesters from Occupy Arcata, Occupy Eureka and Occupy Humboldt returned and tore down the fences.

Yellow police tape surrounded the courthouse lawn again at about 9 a.m. Monday while sheriff's deputies kept an eye on it. At about 2 p.m., county employees erected a chain-link fence while sheriff's deputies looked on. Humboldt County Sheriff Mike Downey said the chain-link fence will keep people off the lawn until it can be restored.

”Anybody who crosses or climbs over that fence will be subject to arrest,” he said.
