Thought Experiment: California without Jerry Brown as Governor

◼ There one and only debate between them was held Thursday. Prior to the event, conservatives in California were wondering if, given the fact Brown holds a tremendous lead in the polls, Kashkari would decide to throw caution to the wind and aggressively attack Brown’s recent record in office. - Le-gal In-sur-rec-tion

After a slow start, it appears that the answer was yes:



It appears that was a winning approach, as word of ◼ Kashkari’s excellent performance spread through the world of social media on Friday.

The fact that the Republican candidate for governor appeared as a trending news item on the massive social media site, which touts a worldwide scope and range of 1.3 billion users, served as a testament to Kashkari’s successful performance as he delivered strong comebacks to Jerry Brown’s jabs and low blows:

...While I do not expect any grand surprise in California’s November election results, the finally tally may be far closer that anyone can imagine. And, I think Kashkari shows how some good strategy for conservative nominees in 2016 elections.

I also suspect Brown’s team is happy the interactions were limited to one debate.

Obama disappoints, again



◼ President Barack Obama has one person to blame for looking indecisive, dithering and cowed by bungled political calculations: Barack Obama.

He’s the one, after all, who strode into the Rose Garden on June 30 to announce that America couldn’t wait forever on immigration reform and pledging to move forward with a set of executive actions “before the end of summer.” He’s the one who spent that afternoon lighting into Republicans in Congress for punting and punting and punting again.

Now he’s the one punting.

Obama, appearing on “Meet the Press,” attributed his decision to punt immigration reform action until after Election Day to making “sure that the t’s are crossed and the i’s are dotted,” or “getting all our ducks in a row,” on the legal side and needing to spend some more time explaining himself to the American public.

This is a reoccurring theme for Obama: repeatedly delivering bold speeches that set dazzlingly high bars for action, then slowly backpedaling into a muddle and letting the issue — and his poll numbers — fade away....

Great. The Obama Administration wants you to stop eating chocolate in your S'mores. Seriously.

Instead, they want you to eat fruit.

The U.S. Forest Service wants Americans to make healthier S’mores by replacing the chocolate with fruit, according to a blog post meant to commemorate National Roasted Marshmallow Day (apparently there is such a thing, it was observed on August 30 this year).

“There are some innovative ways to roast the little white treats that can help cut down on the amount of sugar intake by the kids, thus making bedtime a little more doable,” the USFS wrote last week in a blog titled, “How Does Your Marshmallow Roast?”

“Think fruit,” they said. The Forest Service suggested either banana chunks or grilled pineapple — as if a piece of fruit is a suitable replacement for milk chocolate.

“You will still get a tasty treat but by substituting with fruit, it is healthier – as long as you watch the amount of marshmallows used,” the USFS wrote. “If you want to cut down even more on calories, try using slices of angel food cake instead of graham crackers.”

Angel food cake? It’s culinary heresy, I tell you.

Hard-earned tax dollars supporting bureaucrats who can’t pass up an opportunity to tell us how to live our lives,” McCarthy continues. “For the things that government is supposed to do – like confront terrorist groups – we don’t have a strategy, but for things Americans are supposed to be able to do for themselves – like figuring out the best ingredients for s’mores – government bureaucrats have that figured out.”
