...“Today, a new movement—loosely dubbed ‘the resistance’—has suddenly arisen in visceral reaction to Donald Trump’s election as president, with thousands taking to the streets,” Ball writes, before hilariously adding: “For those who remember the Tea Party, it feels like deja vu.”

For those who remember it? I’ve got news for you, Molly. We’re still here and not anything like your various movements. No matter what shiny name leftists slap on themselves from day to day – Antifa, Occupy Wall Street, Black Lives Matter, Women's March, Indivisible, etc. – we’re not you, and you can never be us.

Here are just seven reasons why:

1. The Tea Party challenges the Republican Party to become better; the Resistance is all about partisanship....
2. The Tea Party Movement is grassroots; the “Resistance” is Astroturf....

When I joined the Tea Party movement and helped create Tea Party Patriots, I knew just about nothing about politics. I joined with other people sick of the status quo and tried to make our country better. The new Resistance is made of professional protestors (as embarrassingly demonstrated when Craig’s List ads offered money to show up to protest).

Also, the Resistance has published and distributed manuals, scripts, playbooks for their professional agitators according to the New York Post:

The manual, published with OFA partner “Indivisible,” advises protesters to go into halls quietly so as not to raise alarms, and “grab seats at the front of the room but do not all sit together.” Rather, spread out in pairs to make it seem like the whole room opposes the Republican host’s positions. “This will help reinforce the impression of broad consensus.” It also urges them to ask “hostile” questions — while keeping “a firm hold on the mic” — and loudly boo the GOP politician if he isn’t “giving you real answers.”

Anyone who’s spent ten minutes at a Tea Party rally knows this is never how we’d conduct ourselves. Which brings me to…

3. The Tea Party is not violent....

Far from being similar, these two groups show just how distant from each other Americans have actually grown.

Mukpo said the donation "played a pivotal role in my recovery." Mukpo also was given the anti-viral drug brincidofovir in pill form, rather than an intravenous therapy, because his illness was caught early enough that he could tolerate oral medication.

The CDC, officials said, is scrutinizing the blood of 15 people who have been treated with different drug regimens in an attempt to determine which therapies work and how quickly, because the tiny sample of recipients does not allow true research on the subject.

While officials have said they expected isolated cases of the disease to arrive in New York eventually, and had been preparing for this moment for months, the first case highlighted the challenges surrounding containment of the virus, especially in a crowded metropolis.

Even as the authorities worked to confirm that Mr. Spencer was infected with Ebola, it emerged that he traveled from Manhattan to Brooklyn on the subway on Wednesday night, when he went to a bowling alley, and then took a taxi home.

The next morning, he reported having a temperature of 103 degrees, raising questions about his health while he was out in public.

People infected with Ebola cannot spread the disease until they begin to display symptoms, and it cannot be spread through the air. As people become sicker, the viral load in the body builds, and they become more and more contagious.

Dr. Spencer’s travel history and the timing of the onset of his symptoms led health officials to dispatch disease detectives, who “immediately began to actively trace all of the patient’s contacts to identify anyone who may be at potential risk,” according to a statement released by the department.

It was unclear if the city was trying to find people who might have come into contact with Dr. Spencer on the subway. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority directed all questions to the health department, which did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the issue.

At Dr. Spencer’s apartment in Harlem, his home was sealed off and workers distributed informational fliers about the disease. It was not clear if anyone was being quarantined.

A Doctors Without Borders physician who recently returned to New York from West Africa has tested positive for the Ebola virus, becoming the first diagnosed case in the city, a law enforcement official briefed on the matter told CNN.

The doctor, identified as Craig Spencer, 33, came back from West Africa about 10 days ago, and developed a fever, nausea, pain and fatigue Wednesday night.

The physician, employed at New York's Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, has been in isolation at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan since Thursday morning, the official said....

The law enforcement official said the doctor was out in public. Authorities also quarantined his girlfriend, with whom he was spending time since his return from Africa.

The doctor began feeling sluggish a couple of days ago, but it wasn't until Thursday, when he developed 103-degree fever, that he contacted Doctors Without Borders, authorities said.

The case came to light after the New York Fire Department received a call shortly before noon Thursday about a sick person in Manhattan. The patient was taken to Bellevue.

Others in Dallas still are being monitored as health officials try to contain the virus that has ravaged West Africa, with more than 3,400 people reported dead. They also are trying to tamp down anxiety among residents frightened of contracting Ebola, though the disease can be spread only through direct contact with the bodily fluids of an already sick person.

Health officials have identified 10 people, including seven health workers, who had direct contact with Duncan while he was contagious. Another 38 people also may have come into contact with him. The four people living in the northeast Dallas apartment where Duncan stayed have been isolated in a private residence.

"The past week has been an enormous test of our health system, but for one family it has been far more personal ... They have our sincere condolences, and we are keeping them in our thoughts," Dr. David Lakey, commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services, said in statement. "We'll continue every effort to contain the spread of the virus and protect people from this threat."

A Plan to Use Survivors’ Blood for Ebola Treatment in Africa

◼ With no proven drugs to treat Ebola and experimental ones in short supply, the health authorities are planning to turn instead to a treatment that is walking around in the outbreak zone in West Africa. - NYT

That would be the blood of people who have been sickened by the Ebola virus but have since recovered. Their blood should contain antibodies that might help other patients fight off the infection.

The World Health Organization is making it a priority to try such convalescent blood or plasma, as it is called, and is talking with the affected countries about how to do it.

This week, the organization issued guidance on how to collect the blood and administer transfusions.

“The concept that this treatment could be efficacious is biologically plausible, as convalescent plasma has been used successfully for the treatment of a variety of infectious agents,” the W.H.O. guidance document says.

Plausibility, however, is not proof that such treatments would work for Ebola and some virologists doubt it will. The results of studies in monkeys were discouraging, they note...

Authorities say this approach has been used in Africa, but to a limited extent. There have even been rumors of a black market for the blood of survivors. Dr. Margaret Chan, the director general of the W.H.O., said in a news conference last month that her organization would work to stamp out underground use of blood because such a therapy must be administered properly and safely.

The use of blood or plasma — either from recovered patients or from animals deliberately exposed to a pathogen — dates from the late 1800s, and for decades was a mainstay of treatment for infectious diseases. Emil von Behring, a German physician scientist, won the first Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1901 for pioneering the serum approach for diphtheria.

The Ebola case in Dallas is the latest example of our living in an era of pervasive incompetence and dishonesty:

The victim is a traveler from Liberia who was in the U.S. to visit relatives, according to the UK Daily Mail. And yes, there’s a chance he infected others, because when he first visited the hospital, they thought he had the flu, so they shot him up with antibiotics and sent him home:...

It was not until two days later that the man was admitted to the Dallas hospital and put in isolation, it has been reported.

It raises the frightening prospect that he was mixing freely with other people for a full two days while showing symptoms of the virus – the time when Ebola is most contagious....

Scott Gordon, a reporter for KXAS, tweeted ‘Hospital reviewing why patient wasn’t properly diagnosed on Friday when he was evaluated and sent home. Dismissed with antibiotics.’

Why, yes, that’s an excellent question. Why wasn’t a man from freaking Liberia who turned up at the hospital with flu-like symptoms – but was actually carrying Ebola in its most active, contagious stage – screened more carefully for Ebola? Follow-up question: why are we allowing air travelers from the ebola hot zone to roam freely in the U.S. without the most careful testing?

This is one of the reasons Americans are so worried about Ebola: we live in a sad-sack can’t-do era of pervasive incompetence and dishonesty. After watching mega-failures like ObamaCare and the Department of Veterans Affairs… after watching the President of the United States lie on national television in order to evade responsibility for his own foreign policy decisions… after watching everyone from Attorney General Eric Holder, to IRS officials, to the director of the Secret Service follow Obama’s lead, using lies and obfuscation to avoid the consequences of ineptitude and abuse of power… we have every reason to believe the authorities could screw up the response to Ebola, and even more reason to think they’ll be less than honest with us if that happens.

Update: Some good news from Reuters: the city of Dallas says all three members of the ambulance crew exposed to the Ebola victim have tested negative for the virus.
