The House of Representatives Dropped Its First Bombshell On Obama’s Executive Amnesty

...In a pointed speech directed squarely at the president’s actions, Boehner quoted each of the 22 times Obama has said he did not have the authority to do what he eventually did: unilaterally change the nation’s immigration laws.

“We are dealing with a president who has ignored the people, has ignored the Constitution, and even his own past statements,” Boehner said. “In fact, on at least 22 occasions he said didn’t have the authority to do exactly what he did.”

Boehner says the midterm elections were a signal from the American people that they want Congress to stand up to Obama and hold him accountable for his actions....

◼ The House of Representatives voted to overturn President Obama’s executive actions on immigration by a margin of 236-191 on Wednesday. - IJ Review

The vote also overturns a a directive from 2012 that safeguarded immigrants who illegally came to the United States as children.

Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) spoke on the House floor to praise the legislation, which had a surprisingly large amount of support from moderate Republicans.

Politicians and pundits have spent a great deal of time trying to find the precise meaning of the results of the 2014 election. No one disputes that it was a great day for Republicans, but there are still many valid and varying interpretations.

But whether the election was a true mandate for the GOP or simply a repudiation of President Obama, voters most certainly did not hand Republicans the U.S. Senate and elect them to a historic House majority so that they could raise federal gasoline taxes.

The GOP has united with a plan to fight Obama's immigration executive action. Here's the inside story of how it happened...

Even when House Republicans agree, they usually flirted with the possibility of having a blowout row before coming together.

But instead of forming a circular firing squad this week, House Republicans agreed a shocking seven weeks ahead of deadline on how to confront President Obama on immigration.

Specifically, they concurred in the best way to beat back the president's free pass for 4.1 million illegal immigrants. GOP lawmakers have agreed on, and are expected on Wednesday to pass legislation that would reverse the executive action and would be attached to a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security. Excited to see so many NFRW members on Capitol Hill yesterday to celebrate the swearing in of the largest Republican majority in Congress in nearly a century and to pay tribute to the Republican Women of the 114th Congress.

The House Just Made It Harder for Politicians to Steal From Social Security Retirement Fund

◼ This Tuesday, House Republicans nearly unanimously adopted new rules for the 114th Congress (H. Res. 5) which set the stage for long overdue Social Security reforms to protect disabled Americans and seniors from indiscriminate benefit cuts. - Romina Boccia/Daily Signal

The new rule strengthens the integrity of Social Security’s separate trust funds (disability and retirement) by putting a procedural barrier in place to prevent lawmakers from raiding retirement funds to shore up the bleeding disability trust fund. Page 32 of H. Res. 5 adds a point of order against weakening either trust fund, unless the changes result in an overall improvement to Social Security’s combined trust funds.

This change sets the stage for comprehensive Social Security reform in the 114th Congress....KEEP READING
