No Country for Liberal Republicans

The good Republican who has the bad taste to stay alive will only enjoy a temporary vacation in the good graces of the media. It does not matter how often he pays fealty to global warming, gun control, gay marriage and amnesty for illegal aliens, or his willingness to appear on morning shows to bemoan the extremism of the Tea Party; the time will come when he will be dragged out of the Saturday Night Live studio and the CNN green room, hung from a tree and beaten with a stick for the enlightenment of the people.

There is no help for it....

The same media that insisted that the murder of four Americans in Benghazi was not a scandal and that the murder of Brian Terry in Operation Fast and Furious was not a scandal is bleating that a little traffic is a scandal. Not a little traffic in assault rifles, as in Fast and Furious, but in the distance between cars.

During the government shutdown, Obama escalated his political war with Congress by barricading war memorials, shutting down private parks and shuttering private restaurants.

Senior citizens were left homeless when they were evicted from cabins on Federal land and inns were forcibly shut down by park rangers who were deployed to keep watch to see that no one went inside. Joggers on Federal land were given tickets and veterans were barred from entering their own memorials. When a group of elderly tourists tried to take a photo of Yellowstone erupting, armed rangers showed up to bellow at them that they were illegally “recreating”.

A park ranger admitted to the Washington Times, “We’ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can.” If Christie was indeed responsible for Bridgegate, he was only following in Obama’s footsteps.

ON FURTHER REVIEW, THE SHUTDOWN MAY HAVE BEEN A WIN

The federal government shutdown was rated by most observers as a disaster for Republicans. Yet the failure of Obamacare has sent Democrats into a panic, and should prompt a re-evaluation of the October fight. There is no doubt that Democrats would not be in the same political mess if they had agreed to a one-year delay in Obamacare, perhaps in exchange for passage of immigration reform. Now they have no way out....

Now it is even more obvious that Democrats should have taken Republicans' offer to fund the federal government but delay the individual mandate for a year. Look at all they would have avoided: the public loss of trust in President Obama; the outrage over being forced to buy insurance on a faulty website after losing individual coverage; and, above all, the collapse of public confidence in the prospects of big government....

Crisis: Reid calls “special meeting” of Senate Democrats on ObamaCare

Agenda item two: How long before the Healthcare.gov Chernobyl is finally contained? Administration sources keep reassuring the media that November 30th is still the target date, but Sebelius told people listening to today’s HHS conference call that they might want to consider enrolling directly on individual insurance companies’ websites instead. (You’d lose your subsidy if you do that, but something like 41 percent of people whose plans have been dropped aren’t eligible for subsidies anyway.) Jim Moran went so far as to say, “They are not going to meet the November 30th deadline, I would bet anything on that. If I had a farm I’d bet the farm on that.” (Another Democrat who spoke to BuzzFeed for the story at the last link described the meeting with White House aides this morning as “incredibly tense.”)

...I’ll leave you with this, from health-industry expert Bob Laszewski: “The audacity of this administration to continue telling people to keep going back to the website and the call center when they knew full well that only 25 people per day per state were making it thorough the gauntlet that is Healthcare.gov is startling. This program is in grave danger of collapsing if the administration cannot dramatically grow the size of the risk pool and attract healthy people to it.”

How Ted Cruz Won the Shutdown Drama

◼ Skeptics ask: What was achieved by Ted Cruz with his 21-hour filibuster against ObamaCare on the floor of the U.S. Senate? What did Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives accomplish by trying to delay or defund ObamaCare? - Jonathon Moseley/American Thinker

To start with, Obama's nice-guy mask slipped, letting average voters see Obama's snarl. Talk show host Roger Hedgecock started calling the President "Barack Obey-Me" due to his arrogant behavior. The mask slipped because Republicans knocked it aside. Obama's shutdown "theater of the absurd" revealed a vindictive, petty tyrant in conflict with his political image, carefully created for superficial "hope and change" voters.

Second, Ted Cruz made it very clear that the ObamaCare disaster is the Democrats' baby. Sen. Cruz, Sen. Mike Lee, and other Republicans succeeded in sharply separating the Republican Party from then-looming disasters, now upon us. So now Democrats own this mess lock, stock, and barrel. Failing to distance the Grand Old Party from ObamaCare on the eve of its disastrous roll-out would have been foolish.

Third, the strategy of conservative Republicans always incorporated a "Second Act" that must follow whenever ObamaCare inevitably fell apart. Cruz anticipated that the American people would realize eventually: "Holy Cow! Those Republicans were right!" In fact, Cruz seized on a perfect opportunity, like a tennis ball hanging in mid-air in perfect position for a tennis pro to smash it effortlessly over the net. But the impacts are still in the process of unfolding.

The ObamaCare website fiasco was part of Ted Cruz's strategy all along. In fact, it did not take any kind of genius to know that these embarrassing developments were coming -- only the courage to act on insight. Millions of Americans being canceled from their insurance and sticker shock from shockingly high rate increases were all built in to the Democrats' Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Is this the new normal? Obama’s politics of oppression and lawlessness

If, as he pleads with every controversy swirling around his administration, he did not know, his incompetency demands his removal from office.

But it is inconceivable that Barack Obama would not know the status of his signature legislation, his very legacy.

He knew, and he had a duty to his country to delay the launch, as so many had called him to do.

But this is a man who does not understand civility. He did the opposite.

He allowed a partial shutdown of the federal government in order to harm the credibility of his Republican critics.

Worse, his administration deliberately harmed American citizens in what can only be described as a rampant abuse of power.

Ted Cruz Is Just Getting Started

The Texas Republican, in an exclusive interview with CNN Chief Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash in San Antonio, was unapologetic for fighting to defund President Obama’s health care law in the face of outsized odds, saying he doesn’t work for the “party bosses” in Washington. The firebrand’s 21-hour faux-filibuster and no-surrender strategy during the government shutdown fight has endeared him to activists. The party establishment, meanwhile, is decrying a man they consider an ideologue unwilling to compromise even when the politics go south. Stay away from Ted Cruz, they say.

Sound familiar?

...“While establishment folks will blame him for the shutdown, he will become a rock star for standing up and fighting the fight,” said Dave Carney, a senior strategist for Rick Perry’s presidential campaign. “When Ted Cruz ran for office, from the day he announced to the day he was elected, he always said he was going to defund Obamacare and stop Obamacare, and the fact is that he did exactly what he said he was going to do.”

Carney added: “His scorn by the media and the establishment and Capitol Hill staff is just making him stronger. He comes across as a breath of fresh air.”

Sure, Cruz’s activism comes at a cost. (The same Pew Research Center poll found more non-tea-party Republicans dislike Cruz than like him.) The establishment, buttressed by the remaining moderate and liberal Republicans in the party, won’t go away quietly.

But the former Ivy Leaguer doesn’t need that wing of the party. He’s already gone a long way toward securing the activist base. Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, and Bobby Jindal, among others, will compete with him for the religious conservatives who constitute the party’s conservative wing. But Cruz has already demonstrated something they haven’t: a wild popularity among evangelicals.

When did the commitment to 'protect and serve' become so flimsy so as to collapse under a simple command to attack? Innocents, both foreign and domestic, were held captive, at gun point, for the simple crime of daring to visit a national park. We on the right have expressed our outrage over the incident but, other than bitching and moaning, what have we, can we, do to enact consequences to those actions?

My head was spinning. With my eyes still barely able to focus but my mind racing like a cocaine-fueled NASCAR driver, I search for answers. How did we get here?

Jarrett recommended shutting down government because, Klein said, she believed voters would pin the blame on Republicans.

And that would give Democrats the opportunity to win control of the House of Representatives in the 2014 midterm elections.

While you and I and he and everyone else knows the debt ceiling issue will not actually throw us into default, we must remember low information voters and the media. The media will report that Ted Cruz has single handedly thrown the nation into default. Senate Republicans have been positively giddy at the prospects of Cruz filibustering the debt ceiling increase because they want nothing more than to blame him for everything and ignore their own capitulation.

Cruz rightly has pointed out that the Senate Republicans refused to stand shoulder to shoulder with House Republicans. The Senate GOP made it its mission to undermine conservatives every step of the way. For the past two weeks, the Senate GOP has leaked as much as possible to damage Cruz, Mike Lee, and conservatives. They have planted stories about outside groups, treated conservative scornfully, and in closed door meetings berated Cruz, Lee, and others for daring to fight.

The debt ceiling will be raised whether Cruz filibusters or not.

They were going to keep the government open, but asked that Obamacare be delayed. Yes, even Planned Parenthood would get their annual funding from the government. Senate Democrats under Harry Reid said no. Here are the eleven times the House GOP voted to reopen the government – but were blocked by Senate Democrats and the president....

THE BRAINS BEHIND THE OBAMA SHUTDOWN STRATEGY

◼ Who talked Barack Obama into shutting down the government and pulling up the curtain on Shutdown Theater? (For those still clinging to “Republican shutdown” mythology, Matt Vespa at PJ Media reminds us that Republicans in the House voted 11 times to re-open the government, listing the bills by number. All of these bills were killed by Senate Democrats, while the media tucked its hands in its pockets and looked the other way.) - John Hayward/Human Events @Doc_o

...according to Ed Klein, author of “The Amateur,” the true architect of the shutdown strategy was top Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett. From the New York Post:
Klein, who is conducting a research for a new Obama tome scheduled for next spring, called Jarrett the “architect” of Obama’s take-no- prisoners approach when it comes to his signature domestic policy initiative.

It was Jarrett who advised Obama that voters would mostly blame Republicans if the federal government ground to a halt, providing a golden opportunity to swing back control of the House to Democrats in the 2014 mid-term elections, according to Klein.

A Democratic House would give Obama an opportunity to pass immigration and other legislation blocked by the current Republican majority.
Golly, that all sounds like exactly the sort of “hostage taking” these Democrats love to accuse Republicans of. A deliberate strategy to provoke public misery and anger for political gain? These people look down their noses at their countrymen and see nothing but pawns to be shoved and sacrificed in an endless power game.

According to Klein, Jarrett is the one who “came up with the idea of using the words ‘hostage’ and ‘ransom’ and ‘terrorists’ against the Republicans.” The same media that spent months after the Tucson shootings having a nervous breakdown about incendiary rhetoric and a “Climate of Hate” yawns and picks some dust from its eyelashes.

The Hill report says Obama’s political team was planning for this crisis for months, which may rattle some of the people who still buy into their “Republican shutdown” mythology. (On the other hand, and to their cost, it seems like the Republicans didn’t prepare for any of this at all.) Maybe Valerie Jarrett isn’t the best person to have on speed dial when actual terrorists are lobbing mortar shells at Americans on foreign soil, but she sure knows how to demonize the hell out of domestic political opponents, and they’re the real enemy, right?

Citizens are reopening their inns and restaurants, delivering Barrycades to the White House, and protesting the closure of monuments and memorials. And they’re placing the blame where it belongs: with President Petulant whose shutdown shenanigans are preventing weddings from taking place in national parks.
