CFRW Capitol Update

President’s Message

Dear CFRW Members,

Norman Vincent Peale said, "Resentment or grudges do no harm to the person against whom you hold these feelings but every day and every night of your life, they are eating at you."

During the past few weeks, I have pondered this quote over and over again, due to the phone calls and e-mails that have come my way. As Republican Women we should be held to a higher standard as we are often referred to as the "life blood" of the Party. If we are having trouble getting along then soon we will be infecting the Party with cancer. There is not radiation or chemotherapy for this type of cancer, but it can be cured if we will be think of the "Golden Rule", or as the Primary children at my Church sing, "Kindness begins with me."

This statement is so noteworthy today because of the phone call I received on Wednesday, as I heard these words from my son, "The doctor has told, Diane (his wife), her cancer had returned with a vengeance and she is at life's end. They don't know if it will be a month or six months. Diane calls me later in the night and tells me to be happy for her and to only share laughter with her. She tells me she has no hard feelings about her diagnosis or toward her doctor or anyone.

These words also took me back to the 2012 election and the harsh words we either said or felt. Are we still lingering over our feelings and wishing to be angry instead of working hard to think of some positives? There are some great positive thoughts. The Dems cannot hide from the ugly and costly "Affordable Health Care", their spying on American citizens, not taking care of our Embassies and personnel, and the list goes on and on. If we were two year olds we could say, "Told you so, ha, ha, ha.", but we are above this. We are looking ahead of making changes in the 2014 California election with positive Republican results. We are women with a mission and that is to turn California "RED".

YOU ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST
ONE TEAM, ONE PURPOSE, ONE GOAL
Thank you for all you do and especially for helping us meet our goals with NFRW.
Hugs and love,

Carol N Hadley
CFRW President

Transparency Hypocrisy

Last week you may have read the media uproar about budget trailer bill AB 76 making changes to the California Public Records Act. After the media storm, Legislative Democrats were scrambling to send Governor Brown a bill to reverse the actions in AB 76, but the hypocrisy was not lost on Legislative Republicans. In a statement Assemblywoman Kristin Olsen said, “Democrats are falling all over themselves now to support the Public Records Act, but where were they when the public was asking for their office budgets? Why do they refuse to vote on bills that would require legislation to be in print for 72 hours? What ridiculous hypocrisy! To truly support open, transparent government, you have to be willing to hold yourselves up to the same standards. But the majority party continues to impose transparency requirements on local agencies without being willing to abide by the same.” Republicans in the Assembly did not support either bill, the original AB 76 or the reverse SB 71, because both bills included many other provisions that they do not support. The Senate will take up the new bill next week.

Reject the Raise

The California Citizens Compensation Committee, a committee of gubernatorial appointees, granted legislators and constitutional office holders a 5% pay increase last week. Californians are paying billions of dollars in tax increases while our lawmakers get a nice, little pay bump -- not to mention the 4.5% pay increase for state’s public employee union that was written into the 2013-2014 budget. Currently our legislators make $90,526 and this pay increase would bump them to $95,291. That is not including their weekly stipends. Assemblyman Tim Donnelly (R-33) has sent a letter to State Controller John Chiang to decline his pay raise, while encouraging his colleagues to do the same. Call your Assembly member or Senator and ask them to reject the raise! Read Assemblyman Donnelly’s letter to State Controller John Chiang HERE.
