CAMPAIGNER-IN-CHIEF: Obama Parries Criticism as Fund-Raising Eats Into His Schedule

Friday marked another stage in President Obama’s springtime metamorphosis into full-fledged campaigner - NYT

The White House insisted this week that Mr. Obama still spends “the vast preponderance of his time on his official duties.” But with his schedule increasingly crowded by fund-raisers and speeches that could easily double as campaign rallies, that case is getting harder and harder to make.

Except for a phone call he made on Friday to President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan shortly after midnight, Mr. Obama’s day was dominated by speeches like the one he gave in a hotel ballroom in Chicago, where he told a faithful crowd that he understood “it’s not as trendy to be involved in the Obama campaign as it was back then.”
