Californians are familiar with the “punish the proletariat” tactics of politicians who, when told “no” to their addiction to free tax money start cutting where it will directly hurt voters — e.g. teachers, road repair — rather than their crony bureaucracies.

So promises Obama if he doesn’t get another round of tax increases (after getting what he wanted 8 weeks ago). For example, warnings have gone out to 238 airports about possible tower closures.

House Speaker John Boehner on Tuesday blasted the decision by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to release hundreds of jailed illegal immigrants and blaming federal budget cuts.

“It’s very hard for me to believe that they can’t find cuts elsewhere in their agency,” Boehner (R-Ohio) told CBS News. “I frankly think this is outrageous…I can’t believe that they can’t find the kind of savings they need out of that department short of letting criminals go free.”

“I’m supposed to have 34,000 detention beds for immigration,” Napolitano said Monday. “How do I pay for those?”

President Obama has been warning America that if Congress allows mandatory spending “cuts” of a piddly-widdly 2 percent to go into effect this week, the sky will fall. The manufactured crisis of “sequestration” was Obama’s idea in the first place.

But that hasn’t stopped the Chicken Little in Chief from surrounding himself with every last teacher, senior citizen and emergency responder who will be catastrophically victimized by hardhearted Republicans. Curses on those meanie Republicans! How dare they acquiesce to the very plan for “cuts” — or rather, negligible reductions in the explosive rate of federal spending growth — that Obama himself hatched?

Want to know why Republicans are so terrible at reaching out to minorities? Because identity politics works really, really well and conservatives tend to oppose it on principle. So, white Republicans are constantly trying to go outside of their experience and reach out to minorities who are generally disinclined to listen to them because they have the wrong skin color. With a Chicago-style federal government, anyone can pay to play, but seats at the table don’t come cheap

...Organizing for Action (OFA), a group “closely affiliated” with liberal heavyweights such as billionaire philanthropist George Soros, is offering donors access to President Obama in exchange for $500,000, according to a recent New York Times report.

Half a $million for a little face time is only a sensible investment when the government is corrupt enough to funnel massive amounts of money your way. As Solyndra demonstrated so appallingly, that is the point of green energy.

When will, oh, the editorial pages of the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle and the Sacramento Bee comment on what this says about the California Democratic Party? The newspapers’ editorialists are happy to dissect the California GOP and give it advice.

Democrats’ not-so-hidden war on minority students

Will these pundits ever get around to pointing out the incompatibility of the interests of state Democrats’ most powerful faction — the California Teachers Association and the California Federation of Teachers — with their most loyal voters, Latino and African-American residents?

Will they ever connect the dots and realize that just about all recent school scandals of recent years — bond scams, lunch-money fraud, attendance fraud, making parents pay for school basics — are related to the teacher unions’ push to ensure there are enough available operating budget funds to give them the automatic “step” raises that increase their pay each year?

Teacher union power is always acknowledged in a general sense during budget fights over how much the Legislature and governor will give schools. But it isn’t pointed out nearly enough how this power warps our schools in the most basic ways.

Starting with the practice that the ACLU is right to loathe, the one in which adult teachers are hired to teach classes they have no business teaching.

But, hey, they have a job, and isn’t that the raison d’être for public schools?

A new video from the House Republican Conference calls into question President Obama’s recent long distance travel to discuss the sequester instead of staying in Washington to find a solution.
