A World Of Good: Madera CHP officer helped make sure a Modesto woman took part in her naturalization ceremony



...While responding to an accident north of Avenue 17 on Highway 99 Ruvalcaba met 83-year-old Sarkees. Despite her obvious signs of pain, and a totaled car, she had somewhere she needed to be.

After taking the citizenship test seven times Sarkees was finally getting sworn in as a US citizen.

"That enthusiasm, her eagerness to be here, the fact that she put her pain aside and her suffering-- that pushed me to drive out here and made it happen for her," said Ruvalcaba.

Arriving in style Sarkees was taken to Valedez Hall by CHP escort.

Thanks to officer Ruvalcaba Sarkees was able to take her oath alongside more than 900 other people.

"I'm going to be American. I be happy-- very happy to be American lady, I be very very happy."

Sarkees came to the US in 2007 from Iraq....

Limo Burned by Trump Protesters Belongs to Muslim Immigrant--Now Trump Supporters are Stepping Up...



Last Friday afternoon, just hours after President Trump was sworn in as the 45th President of the United States, protests in D.C. turned into violent riots.

Local businesses were destroyed and people were attacked by the marauding thugs. This reporter was there and was teargassed. At one point in the chaos, the protesters turned their sights on a black limousine parked nearby. In a video that has shocked much of the nation, these same protesters set the limo on fire, jeering in celebration until the D.C. police and fire department arrived.

The limo set ablaze belonged to a Muslim immigrant, Muhammad Ashraf, owner of Nationwide Chauffeured Services, a company that has served the DC-Maryland-Virginia (DMV) area for more than 20 years. The destroyed limo could cost upwards of $90,000 to replace....

A Florida couple, who are Trump supporters and voted for him, heard about the destroyed limo and decided to do something about it. Mike and Marlo Denning, owners of Elegant Limousines located in Daytona Beach, Florida, created a ◼ Go Fund Me fundraising page the day after the limo was burned. The couple has raised over $6,000 of their $20,000 goal in just the last 48 hours.

I love this story. Absolutely love it. It doesn't mean Jamal Rutledge won't have to pay a price for what he did. The burglary was a probation violation among other things, and he's had multiple arrests. So he has some serious issues to work out in his life. But what it shows is that people who find themselves averse to each other for whatever reason can still appreciate each other's humanity and value it.

Review Journal reports the following (via Inquisitr):
[...] One, a 6-foot-8-inches man named Derrick Jordan — “Stretch,” as friends call him — whisked an AR-15 assault rifle out from a pickup truck parked near the entrance.

Jordan, 37, was one of four black Ferguson residents who spent Tuesday night planted in front of the store, pistols tucked into their waistbands, waiting to ward off looters or catch shoplifters.

Jordan and the others guarding the gas station are all black. The station’s owner is white.

Ferguson has seen a stark demographic shift in recent decades, going from all white to mostly black. About two-thirds of the town’s 21,000-strong population are black. By some accounts, the Brown shooting has heightened racial tensions in the city. But not at the gas station.

“We would have been burned to the ground many times over if it weren’t for them,” said gas station owner Doug Merello, whose father first bought it in 1984.

Merello said he feels deep ties to Ferguson, and if the loyalty of some of his regular customers is any indication, the feeling is mutual.

HEROES OF FERGUSON

They’re mocked, insulted, portrayed as selfish for refusing to indulge the government’s bottomless appetite for cash, and given no real credit for how they make all of our lives better just by getting up in the morning and doing their jobs. - John Hayward/Human Events @Doc_o

Throughout the Obama years, the notion of jobs as a bounty to be distributed to deserving peons by the Ruling Class, rather than an economic transaction voluntarily offered by risk-taking business owners, has grown more prevalent, from Obama’s infamous “you didn’t build that” speech to Hillary Clinton treating the very notion of private-sector job creation as a joke nobody should bother telling her.

Now we’ve got businesses in Ferguson, Missouri looted and burned to the ground. Their owners and operators are expected to shut up and accept their fates as collateral damage from a temper tantrum. There were heroes in Ferguson on Monday night, as well as vandals and looters, and they’re not getting anywhere near the attention they deserve. Let me spotlight two of them.


The first is someone I mentioned earlier this week: bakery owner and single mom Natalie Dubose. She was photographed in tears on the night of the riots as her shop was trashed, but by the next day she was all business, taking quick breaks from restoring her property to handle media interviews. If she didn’t capture your heart already, a WNCN News profile that reveals she’s only been in business since June, after selling cakes at flea markets to raise the money to open her shop, ought to do the trick. After I first mentioned her, readers contacted me asking if there was anything they could do to help. I directed them to the GoFundMe page Dubose created to raise money for restoring her bakery, and I’m happy to learn it has been a smashing success...



Then you’ve got the woman who went toe-to-toe with looters when they showed up to trash the local Papa John’s pizzeria. She didn’t own the store; in fact, according to the UK Daily Mail, she didn’t even work there. She just stood her ground and shoved the looters away, resolute even when threatened with violence...

I hope we hear more about the heroes of Ferguson in the days to come, because I’ve had my fill of hearing about the villains.

In case anyone is wondering, I have no idea where either Natalie Dubose or the mysterious defender of Papa John’s stand on politics or the issues of the day. I don’t care. The ad remembers that time, showing both British and German forces coming together for a friendly soccer match and a touching gift exchange.
It is a powerful remembrance of the true meaning of Christmas.

Family history comes to life: Dress designs lost in Holocaust uncovered



◼ When the Nazis occupied Czechoslovakia in 1939, tens of thousands of Jews applied for visas to anywhere. Among them, Paul Strnad and his wife Hedy, a dress designer. Ultimately, neither would get a visa to leave Czechoslovakia. - PBS

Now, in an exhibit called "Stitching History from the Holocaust," the Jewish Museum of Milwaukee is displaying the dresses Hedy once designed and could never realize. NewsHour special correspondent Martin Fletcher reports in collaboration with Milwaukee Public Television.

See how Sparks Republican Women in Nevada is responding to the NFRW's call for Republican women to donate books to the Weed Library in Weed, California. The library was destroyed by a wildfire earlier this year.

You can help residents of Weed, California rebuild part of their community after this summer's devastating wildfire.
People can drop off book donations for the Weed library through this Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. inside KTVN's main lobby located at 4925 Energy Way in Reno (89502.)

The Sparks Republican Women club is requesting young adult fiction, and children's books. DVDs and audiobooks are also needed.
The National Federation of Republican Women's Literary and Caring for America Committees adopted the town to help residents with the healing process.

Weight of the ocean on her shoulders! 18ft Atlas sculpture dropped off coast of the Bahamas to form incredible underwater art garden

It looks like an underground world that would work well as a movie location.
But the 18-foot-tall female Atlas sculpture kneeling on the ocean floor off the coast of the Bahamas is not the work of fiction.
Part of The Sir Nicholas Nuttall Coral Reef Sculpture Garden, the artwork was created by Jason deCaires Taylor, who previously put 500 life-sized sculptures in the waters surrounding Cancun, Isla Mujeres and Punta Nizuc.
