Thousands of German protesters prepare to take to the streets in 'Merkel Must Go' demonstration

Merkel's premiership is hanging by a thread today as thousands gathered to call for her resignation while a key political ally dramatically withdrew his support over immigration policy.

More than 5,000 protested in Berlin and thousands more throughout Germany over the 'open-door' policy that many have blamed for four brutal terrorist attacks that left 13 dead over the last month.

The Chancellor faced a fresh wave of fury after it emerged that two recent terror attacks and a third killing were carried out by men who entered the country as refugees....

Venezuelan President Maduro’s New Decree: Forced Farm Labor

Here at Li, we’ve been covering the failure of socialism unfolding in Venezuela. Toilet paper, sugar, and food shortages have resulted in violence and thus far unsuccessful attempts to oust President Nicolas Maduro. With the country’s citizens tired, hungry, and angry, Maduro has landed on a “solution” that would make Pol Pot proud: forced labor.

CNN reports:
In a vaguely-worded decree, Venezuelan officials indicated that public and private sector employees could be forced to work in the country’s fields for at least 60-day periods, which may be extended “if circumstances merit.”

. . . . President Nicolas Maduro is using his executive powers to declare a state of economic emergency. By using a decree, he can legally circumvent Venezuela’s opposition-led National Assembly — the Congress — which is staunchly against all of Maduro’s actions.

According to the decree from July 22, workers would still be paid their normal salary by the government and they can’t be fired from their actual job.

It is a potent sign of tough conditions in Venezuela, which is grappling with the lack of basic food items like milk, eggs and bread. People wait hours in lines outsides supermarkets to buy groceries and often only see empty shelves.
As a means of fixing Venezuela’s many and diverse problems that have resulted in the current shortages, this move is, according to Amnesty International, “like putting a band aid on a broken leg.”

Clinton’s Comments on 60 Minutes About Private Email Server Now Used Against Her in Court

Judicial Watch says new information was gleaned from an interview with CBS’ Scott Pelley including the fact that Clinton admitted that someone recommended she set up the server. The group wants to know who that someone was. They also contend her statement provides further reasoning for why she must be deposed under oath. Clinton’s lawyers say that issue is irrelevant to the lawsuit.

On Friday, July 22, just as members of his party were gathering in Philadelphia to coronate Hillary Clinton as their presidential nominee, the Obama Administration once again released a sweeping gun control measure by executive fiat.

Trump tops Clinton in convention speech ratings

The speech was like fingernails on a chalkboard. It was a poorly written address made worse by Clinton's stilted and at times strident delivery. Dressed in a white pantsuit, the former secretary of state over-pronounced her words as if she were a special education teacher or a singer in the Swedish band Abba. It had a slight air of condescension about it. And her cadence was weird, to say the least....

ABC News footage seemed to show Bill Clinton dozing off momentarily during the long oration.

But Hillary gave the audience members what they wanted. It was a stroll through a liberal-progressive fantasy land, a place where money materializes out of thin air.

She promised to make government bigger and bigger and bigger. A communist at heart, she promised to suck up to the hardcore socialists in her party. She promised to empty the prisons. She promised to create worse-than-useless green jobs with big taxpayer subsidies. She promised to flood the country with aliens, illegal or otherwise, and hard-to-assimilate Muslims. With her grating voice, she attacked Republican nominee Donald Trump shrilly and relentlessly....

America’s most libertarian congressman endorses Trump

Donald Trump has earned praise and scorn from libertarians who support his humble foreign policy, position on lowering taxes, and list of would-be nominees to the Supreme Court, but few have committed to supporting him in the fall.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), one of the most libertarian members of Congress, announced on Wednesday that he plans to support the Republican nominee over the Libertarian candidate....

Governor Brown has indicated he feels California is doing awesome, but he fails to acknowledge billions in pension debt and high taxes that are driving away jobs.

...The story goes that because California’s economy is growing and the state does not have a budget deficit at present, the state is a case study debunking conservative assertions that high taxes and harmful regulations depress growth and make states less competitive. In a recent episode of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, the host, a Los Angeles resident, summed up the tale of the California comeback when he boasted how the state “did all the stuff conservatives warned us would make things even worse. But the sky didn’t fall.”

“The sky didn’t fall” isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement for the results of progressive governance, yet the story that all is well in the Golden State is fiction. In fact, it takes just a few clicks of the mouse to find proof that tales of the California comeback are a myth.

After eight years of numerous budget crises that had California facing budget deficits as high as $20 billion, state finances are no longer in the red. This development is held up by Brown, Maher, and others as proof that California is on the right track and that the massive income tax increases signed into law by Gov. Brown and his predecessor Arnold Schwarzenegger worked. However, California’s finances are only in order if one ignores the trillion-dollar gorilla in the room, which is the state’s gigantic unfunded pension liability for which taxpayers are on the hook.

According to figures released in 2014 by then-California controller, now State Treasurer, John Chiang, California’s unfunded public pension liabilities rose from $6.3 billion in 2003 to $241 billion in 2014. Yet that $241 billion figure, which represents 3,000% increase over a decade, doesn’t tell the whole story, as it assumes an optimistic nearly 8% return on pension investments....

How Hillary blew her big moment

Well, Hillary Clinton took the stage after four days of Democratic triumph — the party staged what was even to these conservative eyes and ears the best, tightest, most interesting convention of our time — and pretty much stunk up the joint.

Her speech was a Jell-O mold of a sort my Aunt Millie used to make — blandly gelatinous in flavor and texture with little pieces of boilerplate left-liberal policy suspended in it like peach chunks from a three-week-old can. I can’t think of another one of these events when the presidential candidate’s acceptance address ended up solidly in the running for the more-than-dubious honor of being the worst speech of the convention.

I’d quote the bad parts, but since it was almost all bad parts I couldn’t decide which one. I’d even quote the good lines to be fair, only there weren’t any....

For all those who want to dismiss my words here as the dishonest rantings of a right-winger who dislikes Hillary, let me assure you that I dislike Barack Obama a lot more, but as I said yesterday in these pages, I thought his speech was magnificent. If Hillary had been good I would say so. But she wasn’t good. She was kind of the opposite of good.

What’s more, I’m pretty sure that if you watched it and you’re honest with yourself, you know it, too....

Donald Trump's campaign fired away at Hillary Clinton on Thursday minutes after she accepted the Democratic presidential nomination in a speech that contained several carefully crafted jabs at the Republican presidential nominee.

"Hillary Clinton's speech was an insulting collection of cliches and recycled rhetoric," Trump's senior policy adviser Stephen Miller said in a statement. "She spent the entire evening talking down to the American people she's looked down on her whole life.'"

...At one point a group of ...protesters went off on James, the Hillary supporter, and Democrat party. “What the hell does the glass ceiling mean? I’m trying to put food in my refrigerator. My momma’s a woman. My sister’s a woman! What the hell does that have to do with it?”

Bernie Sanders Leaves the Democratic Party...

The nomination was barely sealed up at the Democratic National Convention before Bernie Sanders, who had campaigned against Hillary Clinton for the party’s nod, went back to being an Independent.

Sanders, who considers himself, officially, an Independent in Congress because his views lean further left than the Democratic party’s platform, caucuses with Democrats. But until declaring an intention to run for the presidency in 2015, he had rarely, if ever, identified as a member of the Democratic Party (he’s been in politics since 1979).

A History of Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump's American Castle

In 1973, cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post donated her 128-room Palm Beach mansion to the U.S. government to be used as the winter White House. And if the house's current owner Donald Trump wins the presidency in November, that's exactly what it will become. Here, T&C takes a look at the history of the property.

Wikileaks releases alleged voicemail/audio recordings from the Democratic National Committee

On July 27, Wikileaks posted on Twitter that “leaks show how DNC had White House reward rich donors with positions on federal boards.” ... ABC’s Money Trail reported on the DNC leaks voicemails and said they showed individuals involved with fundraising large dollar amounts — up to $200,000 — and were calling the Democratic Party to look for their “rewards.”
About the DNC leaks recordings, News Max states they show that “[DNC] fundraising officials acted like gatekeepers for access to President Barack Obama and other top officials — brokering meetings to woo big-money donors.”

In which Hillary Clinton's campaign admits 30,000 "non-work" e-mails are now a "national security issue."

Obama Claims White House Built By Slaves; Here’s the Truth

irst, the White House was not built solely — or even primarily — by slaves.

Most of the labor force consisted of local White laborers and artisans (from Maryland and Virginia) and a number of immigrants from Ireland, Scotland, and other European nations....

Kruta also refutes the offensive comment of Mrs. Obama that The Founders could “never imagine” a black person in The White House, when many specifically wanted to eliminate racial differences:
“The Deleted Passage in The Declaration of Independence” written by Thomas Jefferson is but one example, though later removed to win the signatures of southern colonies:

He has waged cruel war against human nature itself, violating its most sacred rights of life and liberty in the persons of a distant people who never offended him, captivating & carrying them into slavery in another hemisphere or to incur miserable death in their transportation thither. This piratical warfare, the opprobrium of infidel powers, is the warfare of the Christian King of Great Britain. Determined to keep open a market where Men should be bought & sold, he has prostituted his negative for suppressing every legislative attempt to prohibit or restrain this execrable commerce. And that this assemblage of horrors might want no fact of distinguished die, he is now exciting those very people to rise in arms among us, and to purchase that liberty of which he has deprived them, by murdering the people on whom he has obtruded them: thus paying off former crimes committed against the Liberties of one people, with crimes which he urges them to commit against the lives of another.

The infamous three-fifths clause of The Constitution, although often ignorantly condemned as dehumanizing of slaves, was a strategic measure to erode the power of the southern states in The Congress, and ultimately lead to the slaves’ emancipation.

A separate clause in The Constitution sought to eliminate the slave trade to American shores in twenty years’ time.

WikiLeaks plans to release "a lot more" material

Assange said Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign is trying to disrupt focus on the messages by blaming Russia for their release.
“What we have right now is the Hillary Clinton campaign using a speculative allegation about hacks that have occurred in the past to try and divert attention from our emails, another separate issue that WikiLeaks has published,” he said.

“I think this raises a very serious question, which is that the natural instincts of Hillary Clinton and the people around her, that when confronted with a serious domestic political scandal, that she tries to blame the Russians, blame the Chinese, etc,” Assange added. "If she does that when she’s in government, that’s a political, managerial style that can lead to conflict.”

BEHEADED AT THE ALTAR: ISIS butchers ‘filmed themselves forcing Catholic priest, 84, to kneel before cutting his throat after performing sermon in Arabic’

BEHEADED AT THE ALTAR ISIS butchers ‘filmed themselves forcing Catholic priest, 84, to kneel before cutting his throat after performing sermon in Arabic’

Once again, France has been terrorized. The BBC reports:
An 84-year-old priest was killed and four other people taken hostage by two armed men who stormed his church in a suburb of Rouen in northern France. The two attackers, who said they were from the so-called Islamic State (IS), slit Fr Jacques Hamel’s throat during a morning Mass, officials say. One of the hostages is in a critical condition in hospital. President Francois Hollande, visiting the scene, said the attackers had committed a “cowardly assassination” and France would fight IS “by all means”.
Expressions of horror are all well and good, as are blanket vows to destroy one’s enemies. And yet Hollande’s words are beginning to sound a touch . . . hollow.

...if Western governments do not start acknowledging that their immigration policies have serious downsides — and, for that matter, that it is not “racist” or “xenophobic” to say so – they are going to face a series of full-scale revolts, the likely beneficiaries of which will be political parties that do not take the “nuanced” view that the hushers and the name-callers believe themselves to be protecting.

As journalists and political operators pored over the 20,000 emails leaked from the servers of the Democratic National Convention, one Democratic staffer frantically searched for his name. It was only when he failed to find it, that he began to fear for the worst.
