Budget Deadline

Tomorrow, June 15th, is the constitutional deadline to pass our state budget. If the budget is not passed by midnight tomorrow, our legislator’s pay will be rescinded every day until it is passed. The $183 billion spending plan will likely pass along party lines, with Republicans in the super-minority, not a single Republican vote is needed to pass this budget. In what can only be described as a legislative Democrat’s wish list, this budget aims to protect public employee unions, effectively dissolve the state Board of Equalization, and ignores critical infrastructure improvements. The budget includes many provisions that are not even budget related, like refiguring election laws to protect Senator Josh Newman from a recall effort in San Diego. But, more on that later. Let’s start with the Board of Equalization.

Ignoring Prop 54 and the requirement that legislation be in print and available online for 72 hours before a vote, this bill to strip power from the state Board of Equalization and instead create two new tax bureaucracies with no voter oversight has been jammed through and added to the budget deal before California taxpayers could weigh in on it. The BOE is an elected body of government, with four members, who hear appeals from businesses contesting state audits and tax fees. If changes need to be made to the state tax board, they should be done in an open and transparent manner.

Speaking of transparency, this budget does more to protect and solidify public employee union power under the guise of “employee orientation”. The bill included in the budget will allow unions to participate in state employee orientations and allow labor unions to address new state employees to “inform them of their rights”. Right. The “right” to join the union and pay “dues” that go toward political action, with the “right” to refuse joining the union or paying dues towards political action you may not necessarily agree with, without any retribution, right? Right. Any Republican bill aimed at reducing union control in political practices is swiftly defeated. Any Republican bill that seeks to allow employees to opt-out of union dues or “fair-share fees” is summarily killed. And yet, public employee unions overwhelmingly contribute to Democrats and lobby for liberal legislation. It is clear to see where Governor Brown and legislative Democrat’s priorities lie.

Those priorities do not include allocating budget spending for critical infrastructure improvements. There is nothing in this budget that directs money to improving the Oroville Dam spillway, our broken levee system, or securing permanent water storage. Instead, Democrats denied funding requests for these imperative projects, leaving our state in a dangerous position once again.

Tomorrow is judgement day for this budget, which is filled with political promises, lack of oversight and foresight, and creates a potentially dangerous environment when critical infrastructure continues to be ignored. Tomorrow, call YOUR Assemblyman and Senator and ask them to vote NO on this budget, ask them to go back to the drawing board and pass a back to basics budget. Find your representatives ◼ HERE.

Gas Tax Update

Democrats included in the budget a political ploy to protect Senator Josh Newman (D-San Diego) from a recall effort related to his vote for the Gas Tax in April. The bill attached to the budget, also known as a trailer bill, goes into effect immediately, unlike regular session bills. This bill would change election law as it pertains to recalls, allowing citizens to rescind their signatures and requiring the Secretary of State’s office to count and verify EVERY signature, not just a sampling as the current law states, thereby adding weeks to the certification process. These weeks matter, because our governor has 60-80 days to call for a recall election, but if that amount of time falls within 180 days of an election, he can call to consolidate the ballots. Democrats know that they have a better chance of protecting Newman in a primary election than they do in a special election called before it. This deceptive election law change is not the first of its kind. Democrats have a history of changing election laws to protect their interests. Californians need to wake up and pay attention!

It seems that that recently passed Gas Tax has awoken some Californians to action. The recall efforts of Josh Newman are just the beginning. In a recent poll done by UC Berkeley, 58% of likely voters OPPOSE the Gas Tax , including 39% who say they strongly oppose it. The numbers in opposition where high across the board, across geography, race, and age. This is good news for Republicans in districts where Democrats just barely eked out a victory this last election. We must make the passage of the Gas Tax THE ISSUE of 2018. Please visit ◼ www.nocagastax.com to sign the petition, gather signatures, or donate to help repeal the Gas Tax.

Bills On The Move

This late in the legislative session, we are generally working hard to DEFEAT dangerous legislation. This session is no different. Bills are on the move in their second house hearings, and we need to remain on top of the action to OPPOSE these bad bills!

  • SB 6 (Hueso, D): Current law requires the State Department of Social Services, subject to the availability of funding, to contract with qualified nonprofit legal services organizations to provide legal services to unaccompanied, undocumented minors, as defined, who are transferred to the care and custody of the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement and who are present in this state. Existing law requires that the contracts awarded meet certain conditions. This bill would require the department to either contract with qualified nonprofit legal services organizations, or contract with a nonprofit agency to administer funding to nonprofit legal services organization subcontractors, to provide legal services to individuals in removal proceedings who are not otherwise entitled to legal representation under an existing local, state, or federal program. Location: 6/20-Assembly Judiciary Committee
  • SB 29 (Lara, D): Current law authorizes a county board of supervisors on behalf of its sheriff, and a legislative body of a city on behalf of its chief of police, to contract to provide supplemental law enforcement services to private individuals, private entities, and private corporations in specified circumstances and subject to certain conditions. This bill would, commencing on January 1, 2019, prohibit a city, county, or city and county, or a local law enforcement agency from entering into, renewing, or extending the length of a contract with a private corporation, contractor, or vendor to detain immigrants in civil immigration proceedings for profit. Location: Not On Calendar- Assembly Judiciary Committee
  • SB 54 (de Leon, D): Current law provides that when there is reason to believe that a person arrested for a violation of specified controlled substance provisions may not be a citizen of the United States, the arresting agency shall notify the appropriate agency of the United States having charge of deportation matters. This bill would repeal those provisions. Location: Not On Calendar- Assembly Judiciary Committee
  • SB 562 (Lara, D): Current law provides for the Medi-Cal program, which is administered by the State Department of Health Care Services, under which qualified low-income individuals receive health care services. The Medi-Cal program is, in part, governed and funded by federal Medicaid program provisions. This bill, the Healthy California Act, would create the Healthy California program to provide comprehensive universal single-payer health care coverage and a health care cost control system for the benefit of all residents of the state. Location: Assembly Desk, no committee assignment yet

Remember that ‘Republican Woman for Clinton’: She’s a healthcare lobbyist married to a Clinton operative

...After Jennifer Pierotti Lim spoke at the Democratic convention last month, the New York Times interviewed her, describing her only as "the founder of the volunteer group Republican Women for Hillary."

Cosmo and the Huffington Post, to their credit, mentioned Lim's employer: the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. None of these publications, in their positive profiles of the Clinton backer, mentioned her occupation: Lobbyist.

A lobbyist for the largest lobbying entity in the country gets on stage to praise a presidential candidate, and her job is basically omitted from descriptions of her. That seems odd.

A final detail that strikes me as relevant: Her husband is an alumnus of the Hillary Clinton campaign, and is a partner in a firm that has pocketed about $20 million from Clinton's campaign and the DNC.

MOTHER OF ACTIVE DUTY SOLDIER Responds To Hillary’s Anti-Trump Muslim Dad With This VIRAL Letter

Only a military mom could write such a fantastic testimony and rebuke to the Muslim pawn used by Hillary's campaign at the Dem Convention to trash Donald Trump. The Facebook letter below is so great and so powerful that it's gone viral. We hope you will read and share because it's time to support our military 100% in this war against terror!

To the Muslim Gold Star father that spoke at the DNC.....

I have some thoughts on your comments. I am a Blue Star mother. My deepest condolences on the loss of your son. No family should have to endure such a loss. That being said....while your son is a hero, you Sir, are NOT.

My son has served three tours of combat in the countries you and your family came from.

Iraq and Afghanistan were his introduction to adulthood and service to something bigger than our individual selves. He was blown up by an IED set by your countrymen. His Purple Heart is a testament to his love of America and our freedoms. I have suffered through his multiple combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.... never knowing from moment to moment if he would return home in a flag draped coffin. It is torture when a mother wakes up to this day after day and sees the atrocities happening over there on the news and being helpless to change a thing.

My comments to you will probably offend you. I do not apologize.

These things need to be said. Unlike you, I could NEVER use my son's death as a pawn piece in support of a woman that left "America's treasure" (Hillarys words) to die unaided in Benghazi.

The same woman that says vile things to her military details there to protect her.

You, Sir, are supposed to be a witness to your son's bravery and sacrifice.

Instead you stood on a stage and promoted the woman that upholds the very people that killed your son. You became a political PAWN that promotes pandering to our enemy. You desecrated your son's memory by your words. You did not utter one word of outrage at anyone but Donald Trump. Are you forgetting that Trump did not kill your son. He had nothing whatsoever to do with these wars. His memory should mean more to you than five minutes of fame on the stage of the party that voted to send your son to war. The same party that for eight years has denied and cheated our veterans out of their deserved medical care. Who for the last three years has cut our veterans pay.

Of note...your wife stood SILENT. She stood with her head covered, never uttering a word about her loss. She submitted to you being her voice in front of the country. She abdicated her free voice to you..... as would any good Sharia wife and mother. Let me say, this was not lost on the other American military moms.... myself included.

Had it been my son being "used" as a political PROP, no one could have silenced me. I would be voicing my grief, my pride, my love of him to the world. A man cannot speak to a mothers loss. No man knows her heart at the loss of a child. She did her heroic son a disservice by her silence. She should have uncovered her head and her heart to be the American mother you claim.

And last if all.... you dared to flash your pocket Constitution and ask if Trump has read it. I dare to ask you, Sir.... HAVE YOU READ IT? If you say yes, then I dare ask you HOW you could represent that party?

HOW can you support this woman? How can you affiliate your family with a party and candidate that cannot even call the radicals that killed your son what they are? How can you support a current administration that diminishes your son's death by denying he had an enemy? And if you have read our Constitution, how could you cover your soulmate in colorful submissive sheets and have the audacity to speak FOR her? Your son died for that Constitution you so carelessly waved around on national TV in support of the very party that exists to destroy it. As a soldier's mother....

NO ONE could ever speak for me. I find your outrage artificial. I find your party affiliation offensive. I find your wife's silence atrocious and offensive. I find YOU a political FOOL.

I find your son to have been your greatest accomplishment, and you, Sir, have dishonored him. I hope you memorize that pocket constitution so you will understand what it means to be a REAL American and hero.

You are not one. You were USED. Your son WOULD NOT be proud of you.

My only hope is that when MY son goes a fourth time to combat radical Islamic terrorist's, (and he WILL) he will know that his mother never stood submissively SILENT about an American hero. Yes, your son was a hero that could not be manipulated but, you, Sir, are a weak minded FOOL.

I would love to hear your thoughts this morning about the 1500 American soldiers on the air base in Turkey being held as basic hostages as I type.

Not a word from this president or party you adore...or the media that so thoroughly manipulated and used you and your wife. So... what say you Sir??? What will you say to a Blue and Gold Star family if these heroes die? In my opinion, you will say NOTHING.

How Hillary blew her big moment

Well, Hillary Clinton took the stage after four days of Democratic triumph — the party staged what was even to these conservative eyes and ears the best, tightest, most interesting convention of our time — and pretty much stunk up the joint.

Her speech was a Jell-O mold of a sort my Aunt Millie used to make — blandly gelatinous in flavor and texture with little pieces of boilerplate left-liberal policy suspended in it like peach chunks from a three-week-old can. I can’t think of another one of these events when the presidential candidate’s acceptance address ended up solidly in the running for the more-than-dubious honor of being the worst speech of the convention.

I’d quote the bad parts, but since it was almost all bad parts I couldn’t decide which one. I’d even quote the good lines to be fair, only there weren’t any....

For all those who want to dismiss my words here as the dishonest rantings of a right-winger who dislikes Hillary, let me assure you that I dislike Barack Obama a lot more, but as I said yesterday in these pages, I thought his speech was magnificent. If Hillary had been good I would say so. But she wasn’t good. She was kind of the opposite of good.

What’s more, I’m pretty sure that if you watched it and you’re honest with yourself, you know it, too....

Donald Trump's campaign fired away at Hillary Clinton on Thursday minutes after she accepted the Democratic presidential nomination in a speech that contained several carefully crafted jabs at the Republican presidential nominee.

"Hillary Clinton's speech was an insulting collection of cliches and recycled rhetoric," Trump's senior policy adviser Stephen Miller said in a statement. "She spent the entire evening talking down to the American people she's looked down on her whole life.'"
