US cuts cord on internet oversight

The US government on Saturday ended its formal oversight role over the internet, handing over management of the online address system to a global non-profit entity.

The US Commerce Department announced that its contract had expired with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, which manages the internet's so-called "root zone."

That leaves ICANN as a self-regulating organization that will be operated by the internet's "stakeholders" -- engineers, academics, businesses, non-government and government groups.

...critics, including some US lawmakers, argued that this was a "giveaway" by Washington that could allow authoritarian regimes to seize control.

A last-ditch effort by critics to block the plan -- a lawsuit filed by four US states -- failed when a Texas federal judge refused to issue an injunction to stop the transition.

Hillary Mocks Bernie Supporters 'Living In Parents Basement'...

...Clinton then went on to explain why she felt so many Democratic voters, many of whom "live in their parents' basement" were gravitating to Sanders. Ironically, for a presidential candidate that touts the economic recovery the US is going through, she admits these "children of the Great Recession" don't see much of a future...
Some are new to politics completely. They’re children of the Great Recession. And they are living in their parents’ basement. They feel they got their education and the jobs that are available to them are not at all what they envisioned for themselves. And they don’t see much of a future.
... and with an entire generation unexpectedly finding itself in a dead-end economy, it provides a perfect incubator for what according to Hillary is an army of Bernie supporters: "if you’re feeling like you’re consigned to, you know, being a barista... then the idea that maybe, just maybe, you could be part of a political revolution is pretty appealing." Governor Brown made his decision on the final firearm-related bills of the 2016 legislative session that made it to his desk. He vetoed two anti-gun bills, AB 450 and SB 1332, and signed pro-gun bill, AB 2510, into law.

Mall Shooter Arcan Cetin's Tumblr Linked to Posts About ISIS and Iranian Leaders

According to media reports, the 20-year-old Turkish immigrant accused of gunning down five people at the Macy's makeup counter in Washington is a "troubled young man"—a "socially awkward" loner who was so "creepy, rude and obnoxious" in public that his female neighbor kept a Taser by her front door.

Arcan Cetin's already high creep level jumped by a factor of ten when it was discovered that he had a blog with links to photo posts of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei....

Yes voter fraud is real...

Progressives insist that voter fraud is a myth, a charade meant to justify repressive voting laws. The facts, however, tell a different story: Voter fraud is real, and if we ignore it, we leave our ballot boxes open to fraudsters who would rather steal elections than risk losing in a fair and open contest.

The Heritage Foundation’s “Does Your Vote Count” report identifies reasonable measures states can take to protect the integrity of their electoral systems without disenfranchising voters....

Which one is it @HillaryClinton?

The #FBI "investigation" of Hillary Clinton + #EmailGate was stage-managed political theater for the masses. It was never real.

Consumers are getting burned by a taxpayer-subsidized solar power plant in California’s Mojave Desert.

An immensely wealthy consortium owns the plant. Government regulators approved a contract forcing consumers to pay four to five times the going rate for electricity produced by the plant.

And the energy, because of an inordinate use of gas, turns out to be nowhere as “green” as folks thought they’d get....

The owners of the Ivanpah solar power facility received a federal loan guarantee of $1.6 billion, a tax credit in excess of $500 million, and contracts to sell power at four to five times the market rate of electricity. All predicated on the production of solar power.

But Ivanpah is not just a solar power plant. Many solar plants use solar cells to convert the sunlight directly into electricity.

Ivanpah is different. It uses mirrors to concentrate sunlight for generating steam that then drives turbines. These turbines produce energy in a similar fashion to that of traditional coal, natural gas, or nuclear power plants.

However, Ivanpah has a problem those technologies don’t: intermittency. Meaning the sun doesn’t always shine.

For Ivanpah, this is an even bigger problem than it is for plants that use solar cells, because at night the temperature in the desert falls dramatically and the water cools down....
