Silicon Valley will soon see a 'mass migration' of tech companies and talent...Cities like Denver, San Antonio and Houston are primed to be the new hubs

..."Silicon Valley is going to leave Silicon Valley — that's already happened," Kelman told CNBC's "Power Lunch."

"The technology companies, the Wall Street companies, they're chasing the talent, [and] the talent is chasing affordable housing."...

Oracle Funds Anti-Google Effort that Outs Hillary, Obama

The Oracle Corporation is using its deep financial resources to fund the “Google Transparency Project,” which has set up headquarters in Washington, D.C. with a mission to “out” Google’s dicey lobbying practices and expose crony relationships with President Obama and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

With Google demonstrating its political clout by essentially writing the “Net Neutrality” regulatory language, Oracle and others are stepping up funding for a Silicon Valley attack dog to level the playing field.

Silicon Valley has earned the nickname “Valley of the Democrats” from the TechCrunch blog because of its symbiotic business relationship with Washington. But as Breitbart News reported last year, Google’s $16,830,000 in lobbying expenditure dominated the $139.5 million spent by both the computer and Internet industries.

Apple’s Tim Cook Blasts Silicon Valley Firms for Selling Off Privacy

Apple CEO Tim Cook has made some of his strongest comments to date on digital privacy and security.

Speaking remotely on Monday night as he accepted the Washington, D.C.-based Electronic Privacy Information Center’s (EPIC) Freedom Award, Cook criticized other Silicon Valley companies that mine users’ data to target advertising and make money. The comments seemed to be directed at tech giants like Facebook and Google, which are known for monetizing user data....

Cook then discussed encryption and how all levels of law enforcement are trying to get tech companies to provide the “master key” into their products and give them access to consumers’ data.

“We think this is incredibly dangerous,” he said. “If you put a key under the mat for the cops, a burglar can find it too. Criminals are using every technology tool at their disposal to hack into people’s accounts. If they know there’s a key hidden somewhere, they won’t stop until they find it.”

Cook added, “We’ve been offering encryption tools in our products for years, and we’re going to stay on that path. We think it’s a critical feature for our customers who want to keep their data secure.”

"I was happy to take the photographs so we could use them for the annual report," Brown said. "I didn't realize I was archiving a really amazing time."

Rare photos shed light on Steve Jobs, and a young Silicon Valley - Julia Love/Mercury News

Scores and scores of photographs, captured by a deeply embedded photographer, offer an intimate portrait of Silicon Valley as it was translating the world from analog to digital. But at the whim of their brilliant and cantankerous subject, Steve Jobs, they were scarcely seen -- until now. KEEP READING

Doug Menuez, a photographer who has trekked to the North Pole and crossed the Sahara, is the man Jobs chose to document a make-or-break moment, when he was trying to launch his second company, NeXT, after being ousted from his first, Apple Computer. Menuez immersed himself in every aspect of life at NeXT in the late 1980s, staying up until 3 a.m. with the engineers and standing witness in the abandoned warehouse where former presidential candidate Ross Perot agreed to toss the computer company a $20 million lifeline. He even felt the sting of Jobs' famous stubbornness.

Even Silicon Valley Tilts Republican

After Harry Reid scuttles patent reform, tech companies look elsewhere for a political solution. - Wall St. Journal (image source)

Washington is a disaster zone for innovation, especially for the software firms that make up the growing parts of the U.S. economy. There has been no progress in meeting Silicon Valley’s desperate needs, including patent reform and open immigration for skilled workers.

As a result, technology companies long associated with liberal causes are switching loyalties. In 2010 Democratic candidates for national office got 55% of contributions from tech-company political-action committees. This year Republicans have received 52%. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, companies with PACs giving more to Republicans than to Democrats include Google, Facebook and Amazon.

...Silicon Valley doesn’t need much from government, but it does need reform in areas where government policy has failed. Even liberal Democrats in the tech industry have been mugged by the reality of how Washington now operates.

Republicans gaining traction in push to turn Silicon Valley red

Democrats haven't lost their advantage, but Bay Area techies are writing increasingly bigger checks to the GOP - Evan Halper/LA Times

Longtime alliances between Democrats and tech have frayed on several issues.

A proposed overhaul of patent law, a priority for Silicon Valley, cruised through the GOP-controlled House this year only to be squashed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) amid pressure from trial lawyers....

The Obama administration's willingness to allow the NSA to snoop on electronic communications, exposed by former security contractor Edward Snowden, created a public relations crisis for social media firms and threatens to cost the cloud-computing industry billions of dollars in lost business.

In state houses, Democrats are championing online consumer protection efforts that expose tech companies to new liabilities. At the behest of organized labor, Democrats are pushing measures that undermine ride-sharing firms such as Uber, one of the most lucrative new businesses spawned by Silicon Valley.

"Balancing the need for innovation against entrenched special interests has become a difficult thing for the left," said Joe Lonsdale, a venture capitalist. Lonsdale, a relative political neophyte with the liberal social views typical of the Bay Area, has been donating mostly to Republicans, including hosting a fundraiser in his home for McCarthy.

"A lot of Republicans have economic views that are more in line with the way many of us here see the world," he said.

The self-labeled Progressive Movement that has arisen over the past decade is primarily one big propaganda campaign serving the political interests of the the Democratic Party’s richest one-percent who created it.

There is good news in the Boston Globe today for the managers, development directors, visionaries, political hacks and propaganda flacks who run “the Progressive Movement.” More easy-to-earn and easy-to-hide soft money, millions of dollars, will be flowing to them from super rich Democrats and business corporations. It will come clean, pressed and laundered through Organizing for Action, the latest incarnation of the Obama Money Machine which has recently morphed into a “nonpartisan non-profit corporation” that will ‘‘strengthen the progressive movement and train our next generation of leaders.’’ - JOHN STAUBER/Counterpunch

Does this information concern you? If not, you need to get out of the propaganda bubble of your Progressive Movement echo chamber and think. Think hard....

The Progressive Movement we see today was created by a small group including Democratic political operatives and foundations including ◼ TIDES (formed in 1976), the millionaires and billionaires of the ◼ Democracy Alliance, (formed in 2005) and eventually the Obama machine.

After Al Gore’s 2000 debacle, the rich liberal Democrats in the East and the West began to talk and meet. The green elite funders and dot.com millionaires of the Bay Area solidified relationships with the Beltway think tanks, political consultants and and PR flacks. Liberal Democratic Party players like MoveOn’s co-founder Wes Boyd and TIDES Drummond Pike drew closer with others including the George Soros, John Podesta and Stanley Greenberg crowd. The Democratic Party defeats in 2002 and 2004 fueled further despair and solidified plans for the elite to build a new Progressive Movement that would serve their agenda.

This became very visible with the arrival of the Democracy Alliance. A summer 2005 article in the ◼ Washington Post made clear their intent to pour millions into creating and owning a Progressive Movement. Looking back, someone needs to give these folks an award because the wealthy elitists in the Democracy Alliance succeeded wildly, mission accomplished!

...For almost a decade now the funders of the Progressive Movement, the rich Democrats of the Democracy Alliance and their cliques, networks and organizations, have employed and funded political hacks, fundraisers, pollsters, organizers and PR flacks. Over the past ten years they have dumped more and more money into the big feeding trough shared by the major players of the Progressive movement. The overall goal and result has always been to bring withering rhetorical fire and PR attacks upon the Republican Right, while creating a tremendous fear of the Right to increase the vote for Democrats. This has become Job #1 for the Progressive Movement. No one quite remembers Job #2.

...Every well-funded movement needs an echo-chamber to pump up its propaganda and messages, and for the Progressive Movement the Netroots Nation bloggers, The Nation, Alternet, Mother Jones, and scores of other journalists and pundits have filled the bill. The development of the messages and talking points of the Progressive Movement is the realm of DC think tanks and organizations such as Media Matters, and a small army of flacks is also utilized including PR maven David Fenton, pollster Stanley Greenberg and messaging guru George Lakoff.
