Memorial Day is so much more than just the unofficial start of summer.

The Wall That Heals visit to Eureka, CA


◼ The Wall That Heals will be hosted by AMVETS Humboldt Bay Post 96 for 4 days of events and activities dedicated to honoring and remembering veterans. - Juniper Rose/Times-Standard

Alongside the more than 58,000 soldiers who died as a result of injuries suffered in the Vietnam War are the names of 58 Humboldt County residents etched on the half-sized replica wall that will be erected Wednesday.

For many, Wednesday through Sunday may be their only chance to see the names of loved ones or locals who died serving their county, said Allan Dollison, member of the local veterans group AMVETS Post 96, which is hosting the wall. It has been 30 years since a Vietnam War memorial replica has visited the county.

“We really needed to get this wall back here,” Dollison said. “We are losing Vietnam veterans. This will really likely be one of the last chances to bring the wall here while these veterans are able to be here.”

Bringing the wall to Humboldt County has been a group effort that has taken collaboration from many different individuals, businesses and groups, said Dean Glaser, a Vietnam War veteran and commander of AMVETS Post 96.

Why You Should Never Wish Anyone a 'Happy Memorial Day'

◼ Memorial Day is not supposed to be a day of celebration (that's Veterans Day) but one of mourning the fallen.

"It is not a happy day," he adds. As an example of what Memorial Day is all about, he says we should all "search for the video of the Marine that stood at attention and saluted for something like 6 hours during the Rolling Thunder parade in D.C."

Americans who want to honor and reflect upon the memory of the crew and passengers who perished aboard United Flight 93 on Sept. 11, 2001 will find that the federal government has blocked the road four miles down from the open-air memorial near Shanksville, Pa.
CNSNews.com photographed the spot of the road closure this past weekend. The steel barrier blocking vehicles from passing says: “Because of the federal government shutdown, this National Park Service facility is closed.”

People have attempted to go around the road barriers and walk up to the memorial, but they’re being stopped and sent back. No doubt this manufactured effort requires more staff than is usually necessary to work the entire area when the government is fully up and running.

“Absolutely drives me crazy,” Press said of Sunday’s protest activities. “Here’s what wrong with it,” he continued, “Those three idiots leading the protests, but they’re not the dumbest ones. The dumbest ones there are the idiots that are protesting. These are people, they call them vets. I wonder how many really were veterans. I don’t care if they were veterans; they don’t know what they hell they were doing.”

Obama’s only interest is in demonizing Republicans. In this action he shows he has no regard for our troops or their sacrifice.

In that regard, Obama is demonstrating the exact opposite of fairness. He cuts special deals with big Business to avoid a mandate on health care while making individuals pay the freight. He closes war memorials to veterans, shutters National Parks to American citizens but allows illegal immigrants to hold a rally on public land.

And now, in a move that highlights his political incompetence, Obama has singled out dead servicemen as a pawn for trying to pressure Republicans. That kind of petty vindictiveness is the exact opposite of playing fair. Turns out, Barack Obama has the hunting instincts of Wylie Coyote.

UNBELIEVABLE: Police force Vietnam veterans to vacate Vietnam Veterans Memorial



◼ The police came and forced both Vietnam veterans and the general public to leave the Vietnam Veterans Memorial after veterans went through the barricades: - The Right Scoop

◼ After one group of veterans went around the barricade, “the park ranger told them the wall was closed,” NBC’s Mark Seagraves reported. “Later another group of vets showed up and moved the barricades. At that point, the memorial filled with vets and tourists. That’s when police came and moved everyone out.” - WEEKLY STANDARD

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall is a black granite outdoor wall on which the names of the 58,272 service members who died or were unaccounted for during the Vietnam war are inscribed.

It takes more manpower and costs the government more money to close down an outdoor wall than to let people walk past it and pay their respects.

The Obama administration has been very selective in devoting resources to shutting down memorials.
