The University of California, Irvine has suspended its College Republicans chapter for an entire year after the group hosted controversial conservative pundit Milo Yiannopoulos.

— DRUDGE REPORT (@DRUDGE_REPORT) June 22, 2016
“We wanted his return to be a rally for young Republicans, just before the election, to invigorate and excite young conservatives to vote for the GOP. I told administration this, so it is clear that this suspension that comes during such a critical election year, is a political statement on behalf of UCI,” CR president Ariana Rowlands told Breitbart.
“They did everything they could to stop us from hosting him the first time, and now they want to make sure that we cannot host him again,” she added.
Likewise, CR social chair Carl Olson told Campus Reform that while UCI typically remains neutral on political issues, his group was met with opposition from the moment they mentioned hosting Yiannopoulos.
“Quite frankly, we were met with opposition right from the beginning with hosting Milo, so it does not come as a surprise that the university tried to niggle a loophole to get us pulled, after the fact,” he said. “I think the university wants to save face with progressives, and martyring our club seems like the easiest step for them.”

Change: Among Students, Republicans Crushing Democrats on Social Media
◼ For eight years, Americans have been told that Democrats have a decisive advantage among young people, and especially on the Internet. That might have been true with the rise and re-election of Barack Obama. But as his presidency falters, and as Republicans invest in technology, the tide is rapidly turning. In fact, among students, Republicans are now far ahead of Democrats on social media, winning on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. - Joel B. Pollak/Breitbart California
As Sean McMinn of the Scripps Howard News Wire reported recently:
On Facebook, the College Democrats of America have just 17,400 “likes,” compared to the College Republican National Committee’s 124,700. That’s seven times more.Democrats counter that mere numbers of users or views on social media do not translate into votes, and that the key in Internet campaigning is translating online enthusiasm into offline activism. Republicans also use professional staff to manage their social media presence among students, whereas Democrats rely on volunteer efforts. Still, the edge--even if symbolic--is significant as a possible indicator that the GOP can turn the tide.
And on Twitter, the Democrats’ count of 33,600 followers is behind the Republicans’ 56,700.
Even more shocking: While the College Republicans are consistently churning out videos with several thousand views on YouTube, all but one video on the College Democrats’ YouTube account is set to “private.”

College Republicans Profiled, Denied Admittance to Obama Speech
◼ link - Nathan Harden/National Review
Christopher White of The College Fix reports that students wearing “Tea Party T-Shirts and others who wore patriotic or Republican-inspired clothing” were turned away at the door under the guise of security concerns, despite the fact that they held tickets to the event.
I’d like to offer a helpful tip to all College Republicans who hope to attend an Obama speech in the future: Odds of admission improve if you wear a Che Guevara t-shirt, an “I Heart Kim Jong Un” campaign button, and/or a ballcap displaying the slogan “Obama Girl” prominently above the brim.
◼ 'For president's protection' - Campus Reform
Missouri College Republicans State Treasurer Courtney Scott told Campus Reform on Thursday that an unidentified police officer told the group they were barred from the event for “security reasons and for the president’s protection.”
“You will not be allowed any further,” the officer allegedly told the group of six College Republicans, dressed in republican and tea party clothing, as they attempted to enter the event.
Scott said each member of the group had a ticket to enter the event and that they arrived early complying with all rules.
“Obama was scheduled to speak at around 4 p.m., so around 3:30 pm we gathered our stuff up,” said Scott. “They had announced that there were to be no posters or anything so we dropped our stuff off. We were not carrying anything. We followed all the rules.”
Scott said the officer’s reasoning for stopping them seemed a bit odd.
“I hate to make allegations but it was just very suspicious that we were not allowed in,” she said.

College Republicans Launch GOTV Program
◼ The College Republican National Committee on Monday is set to launch “Operation Red November,” a $2 million voter turnout program focused on the presidential contest as well as gubernatorial and Congressional races. - David M. Drucker/Roll Call
The effort calls for dispatching 63 paid, full-time field staff to 25 states to boost support among younger voters for Republicans running in 111 targeted races. The plan, overseen by a national field director and four regional field directors, has set a goal of 6 million live voter contacts in 15 presidential battlegrounds, 16 Senate races, 73 House races and seven gubernatorial contests.
“The CRNC’s quarter million members provide the boots on the ground for the Republican Party. We will utilize our existing membership and our trained field staff to mobilize a youth effort that has never been seen before in our organization’s history,” CRNC Chairman Alex Schriver said in statement included on the press release outlining the group’s effort.
“We’ve specifically chosen battleground states where winning the youth vote will make or break this election,” he added.

Sea change: President Barack Obama’s fluency in all things youth culture helped him galvanize a historically apathetic bloc of voters in 2008 and cruise to victory with an enormous share of their vote. But in the three years since, there’s been another youth surge: among the ranks of college Republicans.
◼ “Our biggest recruiting tool over the last four years has been President Obama,” said Anton Dirnberger, president of the University of Michigan College Republicans. - Politico
Dirnberger said regular meeting attendance has jumped from 20 members before the 2008 elections to 80 to 100 members this year, and total membership has jumped from 1,000 to 1,500 in the past three years.
Heading into 2012, the demographic that invested the most energy in Obama’s candidacy in 2008 is now one of the most financially unstable, saddled by soaring student loan debt and high unemployment. If the Republican Party makes serious overtures to address that vulnerability on the trail, it could make a significant dent in Obama’s portion of the youth vote.
