BILL MAHER: ‘STOP RESPECTING’ ISLAMISM’S ‘MEDIEVAL BULLSH*T’

◼ HBO’s “Real Time” host Bill Maher argued that Americans should “stop respecting” Islamic radicalism’s “medieval bullsh*t” on Friday. - IAN HANCHETT/BREITBART

Maher, reporting on President Obama’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia, said “he went to Saudi Arabia to shake hands, I mean, to meet with the guys who wouldn’t shake hands with his wife, and I thought when she wouldn’t wear the headscarf that she was kind of making the kind of statement that I’ve been trying to get across here for a long time, which is stop respecting their medieval bullshit under the guise of ‘it’s their culture,'” a line that drew loud applause from the audience. He continued “cultural relativism is nonsense. It’s the 21st century, you won’t shake hands with a woman? You’re the ones who should be embarrassed, and if that’s judgmental, good, I’m judging, yes. I’m judging that that’s f*cked up and that you’re the bigots, I’m not the bigot, you’re the bigot.”

BBC anchor Katty Kay, agreed with an earlier point made, stating “I think the more egregious thing here was that the president left India saying we’ve to have religious tolerance, you have to have respect for women’s rights, and he arrived in Saudi Arabia within nanoseconds, and didn’t mention either of those things.”

Maher vs. Charlie Rose: To Claim Islam Is Like Other Religions Is Naive And Plain Wrong

◼ Maher vs. Charlie Rose: To Claim Islam Is Like Other Religions Is Naive And Plain Wrong - Real Clear Politics

Bill Maher clashed with Charlie Rose over Islam during an appearance on Rose's Bloomberg Television program this week. Maher, the host of Real Time on HBO, scoffed at Rose's numerous attempts to link Islam to Christianity and to try to disavow radical Muslims as representatives of the religion. Rose contended numerous times that "moderate Muslims" do not approve of the actions of radical groups like ISIS. Maher noted Muslims when polled overwhelmingly agree with ideas like killing those who leave Islam and stoning adulters. Rose said the Koran does not teach Muslims to do "these kind of things."

◼ Bill Maher ABSOLUTELY CRUSHES Charlie Rose For Comparing Islam To Christianity - FOX
...
MAHER: There are illiberal beliefs that are held by vast numbers of Muslim people that --

ROSE: A vast number of Christians too.

MAHER: No, that's not true. Not true. Vast numbers of Christians do not believe that if you leave the Christian religion you should be killed for it. Vast numbers of Christians do not treat women as second class citizens. Vast numbers of Christians --

ROSE: I agree with that --

MAHER: -- do not believe if you draw a picture of Jesus Christ you should get killed for it. So yes, does ISIS do Khmer Rouge-like activities where they just kill people indiscriminately who aren't just like them? Yes. And would most Muslim people in the world do that or condone that? No.

ROSE: No.

MAHER: But most Muslim people in the world do condone violence just for what you think.

ROSE: How do you know that?

MAHER: They do. First of all they say it. They shout it.

ROSE: Vast majorities of Muslims say that?

MAHER: Absolutely. There was a Pew poll in Egypt done a few years ago -- 82% said, I think, stoning is the appropriate punishment for adultery. Over 80% thought death was the appropriate punishment for leaving the Muslim religion. I'm sure you know these things.

ROSE: Well I do. But I don't believe --

MAHER: So to claim that this religion is like other religions is just naive and plain wrong. It is not like other religious. The New York Times pointed out in an op-ed a couple weeks ago that in Saudi Arabia just since August 4th, they think it was, they have beheaded 19 people. Most for non-violent crimes including homosexuality.

◼ Must-Watch: Bill Maher Schools PBS Host Charlie Rose Over Islam's 'Illiberal Beliefs' - Newsbusters

The PBS host first noted that his guest was "very strong in terms of the threat of radical fundamentalist jihadism." Maher's initial reply: "I think liberals should stop booing me for pointing out that Islam is not like other religions – that it's a unique threat." Rose then made the first of many interruptions/objections: "But it's not Islam you're against."...

"I didn’t used to play any music in the car for the first years of my older son’s life."

◼ The reason I was reading Mayim Bialik's blog is that I enjoyed her performance on "The Bill Maher Show" this week. - Althouse

"I was that hippy who believed that my son’s interactions should be with voices and conversation only," ◼ writes Mayim Bialik on her blog. With additional children, she became less austere about protecting the precious little ears and minds, and she says pop music is great candy, but:
The issue is that pop music is/has become, in some cases, kind of racy. I am generally admittedly a socially conservative fuddy-duddy even though I am a complete bleeding heart liberal politically....

I don’t want my sons singing about magic in pants and smoking weed and booties up. Period. Right? The notion that those lyrics “go right over their heads” is actually not accurate and I don’t buy that. Words have meaning. I don’t know why Juicy J (the rapper in the Katy Perry song) wants to “put her in a coma” and I don’t want my 5- or 8-year-old asking me why either. Adult themes, especially sexual ones, don’t belong in my sons’ mouths. I’m pretty sure about that....

New RNC ad: Obama’s war on women

◼ Erin Burnett “annoyed” she appears in RNC ad - Tina Korbe/HotAir

Remember that excellent Republican National Committee ad of, oh, two days ago? The one that succinctly exposed “Obama’s war on women”? About that …

CNN’s Erin Burnett isn’t happy the RNC clipped footage of her to include in the ad. At first, she says, she was “amused,” but the more she thought about it, the more she was “annoyed.”

...While Burnett may certainly feel however she wants to feel, I can’t help but think she made a mistake expressing her emotions about this one. The RNC ad was edited to depict “Obama’s war on women,” yes, but the clips that included her speak for themselves. They show a conscientious reporter holding a public figure to account without regard for his political party. They show her putting into practice the very view she reflects above — the view that some words are just unacceptable no matter who says them. The clips reflect incredibly well on her. She could choose to actually look at this as free and positive publicity: The audience for the RNC ad probably isn’t identical to the audience for OutFront. Thanks to the ad, some hardcore conservatives might be more willing to give her show a chance — and she won’t risk many liberal viewers because most people watching the ad will know that Burnett didn’t volunteer herself to be in it.

National Federation of Republican Women to President Obama: 'Give It Back!'

◼ Maher's One Million Dollar Donation to SuperPac Should be Returned

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Rae Lynne Chornenky, President of the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW), issued the following statement regarding a recent $1 million donation from Bill Maher to Priorities USA Action, a pro-Barack Obama Super PAC.

“We have a message for President Obama. It's difficult to take you seriously, Mr. President. You make a media spectacle out of personally contacting Sandra Fluke, saying that you did so because you want your own daughters to be able to participate in public debate without the threat of being personally attacked. But then you refuse to criticize your own supporter, Bill Maher, for the vile, sexist names he has called prominent Republican women. And, even worse, you accept a $1 million donation from him. Are we to assume that only liberal, Democrat women deserve civility in the public square? This is either the height of hypocrisy, or a phony, political gesture -- or both. Put your money where your mouth is, Mr. President, and return this donation.”

Founded in 1938, the NFRW has thousands of active members in local clubs across the nation and in several U.S. territories, making it one of the largest women’s political organizations in the country. The grassroots organization works to promote the principles and objectives of the Republican Party, elect Republican candidates, inform the public through political education and activity, and increase the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government.
