It’s not just about guns, it’s about liberty.

It makes sense from a strategic point of view because it ties into the somewhat libertarian trend among conservatives and definitely Tea Party supporters focused on individual autonomy and self-reliance. It also puts the purpose of the 2nd Amendment, freedom from tyranny, in a broader social context of an overreaching government.

Watch the mainstream media’s coverage of the 2013 NRA Convention — if there is any — and you will almost certainly not meet any of the gun owners TheBlaze is about to introduce you to. Despite the stereotypes thrown around about gun owners in America, we found a remarkably diverse, patriotic crowd at the event in Houston Saturday who shattered the image anti-gun advocates have carefully crafted for “gun nuts.”

Without having to seek them out, we found gun owners old, young, black, white as well as a lot of military veterans. However, they all had one thing in common — they are not happy about the way gun owners in America are portrayed in the media.
