RUMORS: ROMNEY NARROWS VP CHOICES; CONDI EMERGES AS FRONTRUNNER

Late Thursday evening, Mitt Romney's presidential campaign launched a new fundraising drive, 'Meet The VP' -- just as Romney himself has narrowed the field of candidates to a handful, sources reveal. And a surprise name is now near the top of the list: Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice! - Drudge

The timing of the announcement is now set for 'coming weeks'.

But the news: When conversation turned to the vice presidential nominee, I said we all know the names of those being considered, spoke of a few, and then said Condoleezza Rice might be a brilliant choice. Here spontaneous applause burst forth.- Peggy Noonan/Wall St. Journal

The story comes despite vigorous and repeated denials by Rice that she would not be vice president. Rice told “CBS This Morning” June 26 that “I didn’t run for student council president. I don’t see myself in any way in elective office.”

“There is no way that I will do this because it’s really not me,” she said. “I know my strengths and weaknesses.”
