The Small Business Optimism Index hit an all-time high. That’s the new Presidential Approval Poll.

In olden days (pre-2016), candidates for president were not so different from each other. I can remember pundits complaining endlessly about how similar the Democrats and Republicans had become. In that environment, you can easily imagine someone who voted for Candidate A warming up to Candidate B. In those simpler times, a presidential approval poll meant something.

Today, a “presidential approval poll” is little more than taking attendance. If you’re a Democrat, you disapprove of President Trump as a lifestyle choice. If you voted for Trump, you probably still approve of him because you knew exactly what you were getting....

I contend that business optimism — and small business optimism in particular — are the new standard for presidential approval because “economics” captures most of what a president influences....

I have been telling you for two years straight that psychology drives the economy, and that a Master Persuader such as President Trump can directly influence psychology and optimism. We see him doing that right before our eyes.

AMERICA GREAT AGAIN: Americans' optimism that stocks will rise just exploded higher in a way not seen since 1998

President-elect Donald Trump’s transition continues to go smoothly. Better than smoothly. Confidently. More than confidently. Transcendently.

And to top it all off, the Dow is up 9 percent since the election, while economic-sensitive small-caps have jumped nearly 16 percent. These are signs of Trump confidence.

Hard-nosed investment manager Ray Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Associates and a non-political guy, expects the Trump years to be as transformational as the Reagan-Thatcher years. Dalio says the Trump era could “ignite animal spirits” and “shift the environment from one that makes profit-makers villains with limited power to one that makes them heroes with significant power.”

That’s as good a summary as I have found.

Since the election, I have argued that the Barack Obama/Hillary Clinton war against business will come to an end, and that America will once again reward success, not punish it. And while the Left has demonized Trump’s cabinet appointees as a terrible group of successful business people, free-market capitalists such as myself regard this group as very good indeed....

AMERICA GREAT AGAIN: OPTIMISM SURGE!

Before the election, prominent stock pickers warned that the Dow Jones Industrial Average would plunge 1,000 points if Donald Trump were elected president.... The exact opposite has occurred.

The Dow closed up nearly 300 points on Wednesday at 19,549.62—less than 500 points from the 20,000 milestone. Moreover, the Dow is up over 1,200 points in the four weeks since Trump was elected—nearly 7 percent.

...Given that the equity markets are often driven by emotion and anticipation of things to come—good or bad—it appears that both institutional and individual investors believe a Trump presidency will be good for the economy, as Fortune sees it.
A rising tide lifts all boats. But in the stock market, that can be a bad thing. When all stocks start rising for no reason, you have to wonder whether Mr. Market is getting a little giddy. That’s not the case right now.

'Monstrous' crisis looms in China...

WHILE the world worries about Greece, there’s an even bigger problem closer to home: China. - news.com.au

A stock market crash there has seen $3.2 trillion wiped from the value of Chinese shares in just three weeks, triggering an emergency response from the government and warnings of “monstrous” public disorder.
