Make-Up Sex: So Good an Idea, A Law Has Been Proposed to Ban It Without the State’s Permission

◼ A proposed amendment to Massachusett’s divorce law would require divorcing couples to obtain specific authorization before a couple can have any sort of romantic interaction. - IJ Review

The exact wording:
In divorce, separation, or 209A proceedings involving children and a marital home, the party remaining in the home shall not conduct a dating or sexual relationship within the home until a divorce is final and all financial and custody issues are resolved, unless the express permission is granted by the courts.
Republican state Senator Richard Ross, the author of the bill, distanced himself from it after receiving media blowback, saying that he merely submitted it at the request of a vengeful constituent.

BLUE STATES TURNING ON CONTROVERSIAL 'COMMON CORE' SCHOOL STANDARDS

◼ As controversy intensifies over new the Common Core educational standards, two Democrat-led states are showing signs of distancing themselves from the curriculum that the Obama administration has supported. - Dr. Susan Berry/Breitbart

Though Common Core supporters claim that the new standards will have the same effect in all states as Massachusetts’ standards did for that state’s achievement levels, opponents say that is not likely.

Last year, Sandra Stotsky, who helped reform Massachusetts’ education system in 1993, and who also resigned from the Common Core review committee, wrote at Heritage that the decreased emphasis on literature in the new standards would diminish the proficiency of students:
[Common Core’s] misplaced stress on informational texts reflects the limited expertise of Common Core’s architects and sponsoring organizations in curriculum and in teacher’s training... A diminished emphasis on literature in secondary grades makes it unlikely that American students will study a meaningful range of culturally and historically significant literary works before graduation.
Massachusetts is joining 15 other states that are now reconsidering their participation in Common Core, four of which have stopped implementation of the tests aligned with the new standards or restricted their involvement.

NFRW: An Update on the Special Senate Election in Massachusetts

The special election for the Massachusetts Senate seat is set for June 25th, and Republican Gabriel Gomez is aiming to win over Democrat Ed Markey. Gomez is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, a former Navy SEAL, and has an MBA from Harvard Business School. Markey was first elected to Congress in 1976 after serving five years in the Army. He is currently representing the 5th district of Massachusetts.

Recent polls suggest that Gomez may be gaining a lead among women and independents in Massachusetts, but any Republican there needs to gain 60 percent of the independent vote in order to win a race; Gomez needs to gain 14 more percentage points before he can claim the independent vote, and possibly the election. The Gomez campaign has set up a call from home tool that you can access through the campaign website. This enables you to make calls (with a script) on Gomez's behalf. ◼ Click here to access the Gomez campaign website and help his campaign effort.

UPDATE: ◼ GOP Poll: Massachusetts Senate Race a Statistical Tie - Michael Warren/Weekly Standard

A Republican polling firm has found that the Massachusetts special election for the U.S. Senate is in a dead heat. Democrat Ed Markey, the longtime congressman, leads Republican and first-time candidate Gabriel Gomez by just a point. According to McLaughlin and Associates, a firm that often works for Republican candidates, 45 percent of likely voters in Massachusetts support Markey, while 44 percent support Gomez and 11 percent remain undecided. The election is on June 25.

Democrat’s Proposal Will Force Gun Owners to Store Guns At Government Approved Storage Depots

◼ That way if someone breaks in your house, all you have to do is run down to the local gun storage facility to get your guns. It makes perfect sense. - Gateway Pundit

Provisions in the bill include:
◼ Having one standard of the issuance of all gun licenses, giving local police chiefs the ability to evaluate all aspects of an application for a gun license.
◼ Requires proof of liability insurance for possession of a firearm, rifle or shotgun.
◼ Requires that all large capacity weapons and grandfathered assault weapons must be stored at gun clubs or target ranges.
◼ Requires live shooting as part of the curriculum for a basic firearms safety course; this is not a current requirement.
◼ Requires all applicants for gun licenses and FID cards to sign a waiver of mental health records for review to be destroyed after decision.
◼ Imposes 25% sales tax on ammunition, firearms, shotguns, and rifles; dedicates funds towards firearms licensing, police training, mental health services, and victim’s services.
◼ Brings Massachusetts into compliance with the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).
Limits gun buyers to one firearm purchase per month.

In Massachusetts: Elizabeth Warren daughter secretly behind effort by Mass to register 500k welfare recipients

◼ it’s about Elizabeth Warren once again rigging the system for her own benefit. - Le·gal In·sur·rec·tion

The news broke today that Massachusetts has taken extraordinary efforts in response to a lawsuit by a former ACORN affiliated, Soros-funded group to register 500,000 welfare recipients to vote (who would have thought there were that many people on welfare considering Mass has only 6.5 million residents).

Republicans cried foul, as this was a transparent attempt to register Warren’s base, while no similar efforts were made to register voters who might be more favorably inclined towards Brown.

Rob Eno of Red Mass Group, however, took the story to an entirely new level by discovering that the group in question is ◼ run by Elizabeth Warren’s daughter:
Elizabeth Warren's daughter Amelia Warren Tyagi is leaving nothing to chance in the 2012 election for her mother. Warren Tyagi, the chair of the George Soros funded Demos Foundation, has bankrolled, through Demos, former members of ACORN in their pursuit to have the Commonwealth's welfare agency perform a voter registration drive. The Boston Herald has the story, although they missed the Warren familial connection.

Healthcare Remains Albatross for Romney

◼ Healthcare continues to weigh on Mitt Romney's presidential candidacy, despite his best efforts to put the issue behind him, say two prominent conservative pundits, William McGurn of The Wall Street Journal and William Kristol of The Weekly Standard. - Newsmax

“Put it this way: If Mr. Romney could speak about Obamacare the way Mr. Santorum does — not simply as a policy disagreement but as a threat to our freedom — he'd be locking up the nomination.”

...Healthcare is an issue that doesn’t lend itself to a technocratic fix, Kristol says. “Mitt Romney likes mandates. Conservatives — especially in light of Obamacare — don’t. Conservatives like liberty.”

SUPER CHOOSEDAY...

RESULTS: TONIGHT
◼ Dividing the spoils: Santorum takes Tenn. and Okla.; Romney wins 3 states and Gingrich captures Georgia - Washington Post via Drudge
As polls closed on Super Tuesday, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich were dividing up Republican primary votes around the nation, with each winning important states , but the key battleground of Ohio remained too close to call.

Romney won Republican presidential primaries in Virginia, Vermont and Massachusetts, the state he served as governor, while Santorum snagged an important victory in Tennessee and also won Oklahoma. Gingrich boosted his struggling campaign with a victory in his home state of Georgia.

In Ohio, Romney was battling Santorum, a former senator from Pennsylvania who has emerged as his chief rival in the tumultuous Republican presidential primary fight. The contest remained too close to call. Official results have not come in from North Dakota, where caucuses ended at 8 p.m. Eastern time....

In all, more than 400 delegates will be awarded Tuesday, more than the combined total of all 12 states that have voted so far. That won’t be enough to give any of the candidates the nomination, but Super Tuesday could still be super enough to reshape the primary season.
◼ SANTORUM WIN OK, TN... - New York Times
Mr. Romney did less well than usual with some of his of the groups that have provided him the most supporters in the past. While Mr. Santorum won less-educated voters, he essentially tied Mr. Romney among the better educated, which has not been the usual pattern.

Mr. Santorum did well among strong Tea Party supporters, but he he also did well among those less supportive of the Tea Party movement.

Like the voters in other states, 4 in 10 Tennessee voters said Mr. Romney was most likely to defeat Mr. Obama in November.

Scott Brown pulling ahead in polls

◼ Scott Brown pulling ahead in polls - Washington Post

A Western New England Polling Institute survey taken Feb. 23 to March 1 has Brown beating Warren 49 percent to 41 percent if the election was held today.

It was the third survey in a row showing Brown in the lead. A poll done last week by the consulting firm Opinion Dynamics shows Brown winning 52 percent to 42 percent; a Suffolk University poll in mid-February gave Brown a nine-point lead.

The most recent poll was taken after Brown backed an amendment allowing moral exemptions from prescription coverage (a failed attempt to limit mandatory cost-free birth control coverage) — suggesting that in the short-term, that position has not hurt him.

Republican Sen. Scott Brown holds a decisive lead over Democrat Elizabeth Warren in the race for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts.

◼ Brown Surges in Massachusetts - Wall St. Journal

According to a new Suffolk University/7NEWS (WHDH-Boston) survey, the freshman senator garners 49% of the vote -- nine points ahead of his main Democratic rival. It's the first time a poll put Mr. Brown in the lead since last fall...

The survey suggests there's a reason independent voters favor the Massachusetts senator. And it has to do with the perception of Ms. Warren as a liberal Democrat. When asked what word first came to mind when respondents heard the name Elizabeth Warren, "liberal" was a top reply. On the other hand when asked what came to mind when they heard the name Scott Brown, "independent" and "fair/fair person" were among the top responses.
