The Democrat Party Is in Worse Shape Than You Thought

Sifting through the wreckage of the 2016 election, Democratic pollsters, strategists and sympathetic academics have reached some unnerving conclusions.

What the autopsy reveals is that Democratic losses among working class voters were not limited to whites; that crucial constituencies within the party see its leaders as alien; and that unity over economic populism may not be able to turn back the conservative tide.

Equally disturbing, winning back former party loyalists who switched to Trump will be tough: these white voters’ views on immigration and race are in direct conflict with fundamental Democratic tenets....

National Federation of Republican Women Urges Senate to 'Get on Board' with Gorsuch, Pass Resolution of Support at Board Meeting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - More than 150 Republican women leaders from across the nation gathered at the National Federation of Republican Women's (NFRW) spring board meeting in Memphis on March 17-18, where they pledged support for President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch.

The NFRW board unanimously adopted a resolution calling on the U.S. Senate to confirm Gorsuch immediately. Gorsuch, who currently serves on the Tenth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, is known as a champion of religious liberty and is considered to be an originalist in his interpretation of the U.S. Constitution. The Senate Judiciary Committee is set to begin hearings on his nomination next week.

"Neil Gorsuch is eminently qualified to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court as Justice Antonin Scalia's successor," NFRW President Carrie Almond said. "President Trump is setting a course for a renewed, greater America, and the historic selection of Gorsuch to the Supreme Court will help ensure that our constitutional liberties are protected and preserved for generations to come. Republican women are 100 percent behind this nomination, and we urge the U.S. Senate to confirm Judge Gorsuch without delay."

Read the resolution at www.nfrw.org/board-spring2017.

Founded in 1938, the National Federation of Republican Women is the largest and most influential Republican women's group in the nation, proudly representing the party that first made it possible for women to vote in the U.S. The NFRW works to increase the effectiveness and relevance of women in the cause of good government. Our mission remains to recruit and elect Republican candidates, promote the principles of the Republican Party, educate the public, and inform the media.

California Candidates for US Senate meet for first debate

Democratic state Attorney General Kamala Harris touted the gun control policies she has backed as attorney general. She says she would renew the assault weapons ban, support reasonable database checks and would try to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill. She says she doesn't like the binary labels of pro-Second Amendment or anti-gun.

Tom Del Beccaro took on Harris, saying taking guns away from law-abiding citizens isn't the answer. He also attacked her for supporting the sanctuary cities movement that allows people in the country illegally to avoid deportation.

Dems Worried About Senate Candidate’s Lavish Spending of $20,000 on Luxury Car Services

California Attorney General Kamala Harris has burned through more than 40 percent of the $6 million she’s raised for her Senate run, National Journal reports. The thousands that Harris’ campaign has spent on ritzy hotels, among other expenses, has some Democrats worried.

[H]er high-priced expenses, staff turnover, and anemic fundraising have dimmed her aura of inevitability, and among her former and current allies, there’s already a proliferation of finger-pointing over who, exactly, is to blame.

“Harris’s frivolous spending on airfare, luxury cars, and hotels is highly unusual for a Senate candidate that has a relatively competitive race,” said the national Democratic strategist. “And the campaign is in the financial mess that it’s in because of its decision to do those things.” […]

The campaign’s splurges aren’t limited to hotels. Since Harris announced she would run for Senate in January, the campaign has spent nearly $20,000 on luxury car services and purchased expensive airfare—with some trips costing nearly $2,500.....

“If you're a Democratic donor its hard to get all excited about which Democratic woman will replace the current Democratic woman in the Senate.”

“She's perceived as very, very difficult to work for,” one strategist familiar with the campaign told The Hill. “She doesn't have real relationships and partnerships. She has acquaintances.”

The fundraising numbers point to the problem, the strategist said.

“Here she is, she's running for Senate, as an African American woman, she should be raising gobs of money,” the source said. “The fact that she's raising one and a half to 2 million a quarter, is absurd.

“She expects fundraisers who helped Obama to help her…She gets upset when donors don't flock to her, it drives her crazy that she actually has to meet and talk with people,” the source added....

Since announcing her bid for the Senate in January, Harris has raised $5.9 million and spent $2.6 million, at a relatively high burn rate of 44 percent. In the most recent fundraising quarter, Harris raised $1.7 million and spent $1.4 million at an even higher burn rate of 82 percent, according to Federal Elections Commission filings.

Bizarre fake police force included Kamala Harris aide

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Capt. Roosevelt Johnson thought it was odd when three people — two of them dressed in police uniforms he didn't recognize — strolled into the Santa Clarita station in February. - LA TIMES

One man introduced himself as chief of the Masonic Fraternal Police Department and told Johnson this was a courtesy call to let him know the agency was setting up shop in the area.

They met for 45 minutes, Johnson said, but he was left confused and suspicious — so much so that he immediately ordered deputies to pull station surveillance video so they would have images of the visitors. He also assigned detectives to check them out....

This week, the three people were charged with impersonating police officers. They are David Henry, who told Johnson he was the police chief, Tonette Hayes and Brandon Kiel, an aide to state Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris.

It turns out Henry, Hayes and Kiel had allegedly introduced themselves to police agencies across the state, though it is unclear why. A website claiming to represent their force cites connections to the Knights Templars that they say go back 3,000 years. The site also said that the department had jurisdiction in 33 states and Mexico.

...Johnson said Kiel did most of the talking during their meeting. Kiel said in addition to his police position, he worked for Harris. When Kiel departed, Johnson said, he left his card from the state Department of Justice.

California Democrats Divided Over Senate Nominee

California Attorney General Kamala Harris has already announced her plans to run to replace retiring Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer. But she's not the only California Democrat eyeing up the open Senate seat.... Kamala Harris thought she had secured her position as the frontrunner for the Democratic Senate nomination.... But stiff competition from Rep. Loretta Sanchez could change that

Kamala Harris in, Gavin Newsom out in run for Boxer's Senate seat

Just like that, the race for Barbara Boxer's coveted U.S. Senate seat, which opens up when she retires in 2016, took surprisingly quick shape Monday as two of California's highest-profile Democrats revealed their plans. - San Jose Mercury News

Since Boxer announced last Thursday that her current, fourth six-year term will be her last, the question plaguing politicians and pundits has been, "who will run for what?" At play is not only this seat, but the governor's office in 2018 when Gov. Jerry Brown will be term-limited out, and also California's other U.S. Senate seat, as many believe Sen. Dianne Feinstein will retire after her current term expires.

Harris, 50, who splits her time between San Francisco and Los Angeles and was just sworn into her second term as California's "top cop," isn't just announcing interest in the 2016 Senate race, a top political aide said late Monday: "She's in, she's declaring candidacy." Her announcement is expected Tuesday.

Hours earlier, Newsom, 47, of Ross, had posted an announcement to Facebook saying he's out and implying he's more interested in succeeding Brown as governor.

Villaraigosa ‘seriously’ considering Senate run; Steyer to decide soon - Sacramento Bee

Villaraigosa, who left office in 2013, is one of several high-profile Democrats who may have their eye on Boxer’s seat in 2016. Others include Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, Attorney General Kamala Harris, environmental activist Tom Steyer and U.S. Reps. Jackie Speier, Loretta Sanchez and John Garamendi. Among the Republicans, former state GOP chairmen Tom Del Beccaro and Duf Sundheim are plotting runs.

A California Assault on Free Speech That Would Shock the Founders

The state’s attorney general is attempting to silence a foundation that educates Americans on free markets. - TIM PHILLIPS AND DAVID SPADY/Wall St. Journal (Mr. Phillips is the president and Mr. Spady is the California state director of Americans for Prosperity.)

Our organizations, Americans for Prosperity, a nonprofit advocacy group that mobilizes grass-roots activists to support or oppose specific legislation and hold lawmakers accountable, and Americans for Prosperity Foundation, which educates citizens about the benefits of free-market policies, have been among the left’s primary targets.

President Obama has personally leveled attacks on our nonprofits on numerous occasions, as has Majority Leader Harry Reid in speeches from the Senate floor. Their allies, whether in Congress, in the federal bureaucracy or affiliated groups, have gone to great lengths to discredit and destroy us.

On Dec. 9 the AFP Foundation filed suit in federal court to stop the latest such attack—California Attorney General Kamala Harris ’s demand that we disclose our donors, including their names, addresses and contribution levels. Ms. Harris has indicated that the penalty for noncompliance will be financial penalties for our individual officers and directors as well as a denial of nonprofit status, essentially ending our work in the state of California.

Ms. Harris claims she will not disclose this information to the public. But this is a hollow promise. There is no provision of California law that ensures confidentiality. Indeed, California law appears to be to the contrary, requiring her to disclose information in her possession upon request from the public. The likely outcome is that her allies on the left will use the information to target and ultimately suppress our organization and those who support it.

Ms. Harris’s demand derives no support from existing statutes or regulations. Neither state nor federal law requires nonprofits like the AFP Foundation to disclose the information she has requested. The organization has operated in California for more than 13 years, a period in which our donor and member information was never required or otherwise requested by state officials. We have fully complied with the laws and regulations that govern nonprofits. Nothing has changed, except perhaps the politicization of the office which Ms. Harris now holds.

Without any law to back up her demand, our conclusion is that the attorney general is attempting to silence our organization and its supporters.... KEEP READING

California AG Kamala Harris Accused of Unfairly Targeting Conservative Group

The conservative Americans for Prosperity Foundation filed a First Amendment lawsuit against California Attorney General Kamala Harris accusing her of engaging in unfair targeting of conservative nonprofits, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. - Washington Free Beacon

[T]he Americans for Prosperity Foundation is saying the state of California is improperly demanding information about its donors – and is threatening unusually harsh penalties if the group doesn’t comply. One other conservative group has filed a separate lawsuit against the attorney general, which is now in the Ninth Circuit.

Tax-exempt charitable groups are required to file an annual report (Form 990) with the IRS and a separate form (Schedule B) listing the names and addresses of people who donate more than $5,000 in one year. The 990 is a public document – but the IRS must keep the donor information private.... KEEP READING

Bet on Obama to nominate Kamala Harris as Holder's replacement - relaunch war on women & racism memes

If I were a betting man, I'd place my chips on Kamala Harris to be Barack Obama's nominee to replace exiting Attorney General Eric Holder. She may or may not be qualified, but that's not really what's important here. Harris is the first African American, Asian American, female to hold the office of California Attorney General. - Robert Laurie/Herman Cain

Barack Obama famously described her this way:
“You have to be careful to, first of all, say she is brilliant and she is dedicated and she is tough, and she is exactly what you’d want in anybody who is administering the law, and making sure that everybody is getting a fair shake. She also happens to be, by far, the best looking attorney general in the country.”
Yes, that would have been labelled as insulting, ignorant, and sexist had a Republican said it but Obama, obviously, gets a pass. There's no war on women where the President is concerned. That, in a roundabout way, brings us to the point.

Obama Calls Californian Kamala Harris ‘Best Looking’ Attorney General

President Obama assessed the beauty of California’s attorney general Kamala Harris, calling her “the best looking attorney general,” during remarks at a fundraiser in Atherton, California. - ABC

Obama’s event in California wrapped a two day, four fundraiser sweep through the Bay Area. Earlier Thursday he talked about the need for new gun control at the home of Liz Simons and Mark Heising, director of a San Francisco investment firm and a board member at the Environmental Defense Fund.

Why Kamala Harris is probably not thrilled with compliment - Chris Reed/Cal Watchdog

The instant national chortling Thursday over the fact that President Obama had called California’s Kamala Harris the “best-looking” state attorney general ended up being more about seeing the usual slippery standards on political correctness. Democrats can often get away with little blowback for things that would get Republicans fricaseed, and this was one more example.

But if you are Harris, you probably don’t appreciate the Obama remark because of the likelihood that it will remind people that it was her attractiveness that gave her her initial foothold in state politics.

Harris caught Willie Brown’s eye in her 20s

The first time she ever appears in a Nexis.com search of California news is March 22, 1994, when she was Assembly Speaker Willie Brown’s date at his 60th birthday party. She was 30 years-plus younger. But she didn’t just date Brown. She cashed in from knowing him:
“Assembly Speaker Willie Brown, continuing his rush to hand out patronage jobs while he retains his powerful post, has given high-paying appointments to his former law associate and a former Alameda County prosecutor who is Brown’s frequent companion.

“Brown, exercising his power even as his speakership seems near an end, named attorney Kamala Harris to the California Medical Assistance Commission, a job that pays $72,000 a year.

“Harris, a former deputy district attorney in Alameda County, was described by several people at the Capitol as Brown’s girlfriend. In March, San Francisco Chronicle columnist Herb Caen called her ‘the Speaker’s new steady.’ Harris declined to be interviewed Monday and Brown’s spokeswoman did not return phone calls.

“Harris accepted the appointment last week after serving six months as Brown’s appointee to the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board, which pays $97,088 a year.”
