'This is insane': SecDef Chuck Hagel confirms multiple NUCLEAR missile bases shared single wrench

Three US missile bases had to SHARE a wrench, Hagel admits as he orders top-to-bottom changes in nuke force - David Martosko, US Political Editor for MailOnline
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel admitted on Friday that three U.S. nuclear missile bases in North Dakota, Wyoming and Montana were so badly managed that they had to share a wrench used to tighten warheads to the business end of Minuteman 3 missiles.

'How did they do it? They did it by federal expressing the one wrench around to each base,' Hagel told reporters Friday morning during a press conference called to introduce new system-wide reforms affecting the nation's entire intercontinental ballistic missile arsenal.

'They were creative and innovative and they made it work. But that is not the way to do it. We now have a wrench for each location. We're going to have two for each location soon.'

The three facilities in question house about 450 nuclear missiles.

America deserved an earlier warning about Obama’s military mischief

Why didn’t Gates sound the alarm sooner? - Frank J. Gaffney Jr./Washington Times

...It didn’t have to be this way. Had Mr. Obama not serially communicated weakness and irresolution, hollowed out the U.S. military, undermined it further with social engineering on matters ranging from homosexuals in the military to women in combat and embraced some of the most dangerous of our Islamist enemies — including the Muslim Brotherhood, Iran and even representatives of the Taliban — America’s security interests might not be in free fall around the world today.

There is, therefore, no small irony in the current rap on Mr. Gates‘ book — from some Republican savants as well as the predictable Democratic partisans — that he shouldn’t have published it until after the end of the Obama presidency in 2017.

To the contrary, it would have been far better if Mr. Gates had exposed his insights into what was happening to the common defense far earlier.

Indeed, one wonders: If Bob Gates had resigned over the practices and conduct we are now told infuriated him, instead of staying in office and accommodating them, might his warnings have prevented, or at least substantially reduced, the wrecking operation that is currently devastating our all-volunteer force and putting our country and the rest of what’s left of the Free World in ever greater jeopardy?

Gates: Harry Reid Calling Iraq War 'Lost' Was 'Disgraceful'

Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates joined Morning Joe Wednesday to discuss his new book, Duty, saying that “disgraceful” comments by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) did not help troop morale in Iraq and Afghanistan. - Washington Free Beacon

“That sends a riveting message to kids who are putting their lives on the line every day that they’re doing it for nothing,” Gates noted, “and that was absolutely not the case.”

Obama’s former Secretary of Defense is coming out with a book that portrays Obama, correctly so, as a pathetic, incompetent, craven commander-in-chief

Bob Gates Blasts Obama - Larry Johnson/No Quarter

Obama’s ability to push his lies on America is being repeatedly challenged. What do you folks think about Gates blowing the whistle on him? Should Gates have resigned when he realized he was serving a political hack?

Robert Gates, former defense secretary, offers harsh critique of Obama’s leadership in ‘Duty’ - Bob Woodward/Washington Post

It is rare for a former Cabinet member, let alone a defense secretary occupying a central position in the chain of command, to publish such an antagonistic portrait of a sitting president....

The sometimes bitter tone in Gates’s 594-page account contrasts sharply with the even-tempered image that he cultivated during his many years of government service, including stints at the CIA and National Security Council. That image endured through his nearly five years in the Pentagon’s top job, beginning in President George W. Bush’s second term and continuing after Obama asked him to remain in the post. In “Duty,” Gates describes his outwardly calm demeanor as a facade. Underneath, he writes, he was frequently “seething” and “running out of patience on multiple fronts.”

The book, published by Knopf, is scheduled for release Jan. 14. - Kindle, Hardcover, and Audiobook

Former Senator Jon Kyl On The Revelations Found In Former SecDef Bob Gates’ Memoir, Duty - Hugh Hewitt

Bob Gates is a very principled man. And he’s a very civil person. He believes deeply in what’s good for the country. And it bothers such people to see the low brow, uncivil, political kinds of decision making that occur in Washington, especially at the very top. And I’m sure that finally got to him.

KRAUTHAMMER: GATES BOOK REVELATIONS 'AN INDICTMENT' THAT RISES ABOVE EVERYTHING ELSE OBAMA HAS DONE

... “He now has the lowest public approval of any war in modern history because it had no leadership. But I think this is a shocking revelation. I assumed that he didn't believe in this war from his own actions. But here's from somebody sitting with the president three months in. And I do think this is an indictment of the president that rises above everything else he's done in his presidency.”

Michelle Malkin: My column today: The Anti-Choice Left’s Disarming of the American Woman. I'll be talking about this tonight on Fox. Tune in!

It’s not just Colorado and it’s not just the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs that are clamping down on the rights and self-defense choices of American women. As my column today reports, the disarming and infantilization of females are cancerous nationwide trends - Michelle Malkin

Time to fight back like a girl, as one of my favorite female Second Amendment advocates Sarah Palin likes to say.

...The presumptuous paternalism of gun-grabbing male Democrats is not confined to the political arena. On college campuses across the country, the literal disarming of women is standard operating procedure. At the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, officials advise women that “passive resistance may be your best defense.” The school’s recommendation to girls: “Tell your attacker that you have a disease or are menstruating.”

If that fails, it’s time to deploy other assault bodily fluids! No joke. UCCS seriously advises potential victims: “Vomiting or urinating may also convince the attacker to leave you alone.”

In a quick survey of campus tips for women, Twitchy.com editor Jenn Taylor notes that at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, women are also told that “passive resistance (vomiting, urinating, telling the attacker you’re diseased or menstruating) may be your best defense.” The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh tells girls to “(c)ry or create a scene of emotional or mental instability.” Instead of a Glock, the school prefers students take a page from “Glee.” Yes, ladies, when you fear for your lives, it’s time to engage in theatrics by faking a “faint” or “seizure.” And at Oregon State, female students are advised to tell sexual predators they are “sick or pregnant,” because guns and knives are banned on campus....

The idea that women can’t be trusted to know when they are at risk takes direct aim at their very sovereignty and security.

It’s anti-self-determination. It’s anti-freedom. It’s anti-choice.

The true story of sequester

link - Bill Wilson/Net Right Daily

A little discussed impact of sequestration, due to take effect on March 1, is the fact that after 2014, spending will increase every single year in both defense and non-defense categories, reports the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

In addition, there are real spending cuts, but they come nowhere near to totaling the $1 trillion figure that has been reported by various government agencies...

For example, sequester partially hits Medicare, but for that program spending will rise from its 2012 level of $551 billion to $592 billion in 2013, to $605 billion in 2014, and so forth. CBO never foresees a decrease there.

...The point that must be made is that the American people were promised these cuts.
To secure the votes needed to suspend the $16.394 trillion debt ceiling until May 19, House leaders had to promise members they would stick to the sequestration.

In fact, all of these cuts were the price for increasing the debt ceiling by $2.1 trillion in August 2011. Imagine that, $2.1 trillion in new borrowing authority, that the government burnt through in less than two years — in exchange for just $115.3 billion of real cuts.

Now it’s questionable if those will even be kept in place. If the House caves on sequester, members’ promises of cuts down the road will forever ring hollow and empty to the American people. If the Republican Party does not stand for getting our fiscal house in order and keeping the tax burden low, what does it stand for?

It is time to stand strong on the sequester. This is no time to go all wobbly — because much, much more needs to be done down the road to save this country from certain bankruptcy. read the whole thing, at the link

Newtown Calls for Armed School Officers

The Newtown Board of Education wants more armed police officers in the town's four elementary schools after the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. - By George Colli/NBC Connecticutt

...(T)hey decided to ask the town to approve the request to include one additional full-time Newtown police at each of the elementary schools in next year's budget....

Parents said security means more than a police presence.

“My main concern is with accessibility to these school, said Neil Johnson, a parent of two Newtown students. “On December 14th, that was the main bare-boned reason that occurred.”

“After what happened in our community, I just think we should go over and above and provide a shining example for the rest of the world and protect our kids,” said resident Donna Lorenz.

WHY IS GOVERNMENT STOCKPILING GUNS, AMMO?

Joseph Farah examines Obama's plan for 'civilian national security force' - WND

Is the U.S. government getting ready for a war we don’t know about?

And, if that’s why Washington is stockpiling massive amounts of ammunition (hollow points, by the way), why is Homeland Security doing the buying instead of the Defense Department?

I have some theories.

Many of you will remember a story I broke a long time ago – about presidential candidate Barack Obama’s little-noticed announcement that, if elected in 2008, he wanted to create a “civilian national security force” as big, as strong and as well-funded as the Defense Department.

Here’s what he actually said at a campaign stop in Colorado July 2, 2008: “We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

Could what we see happening now in the Department of Homeland Security be the beginning of Obama’s dream and our constitutional nightmare?

We’ve learned more about Obama’s vision since then. Maybe it’s time for a review... at the link

Think about it.

Why does the civilian Department of Homeland Security need billions of rounds of ammunition?

This is the agency that is responsible for policing the border. But it doesn’t.

This is the agency that is responsible for catching terrorists. But it doesn’t.

Police NOT Obligated to Protect Citizens…Supreme Court Rules ‘You’re On Your Own’

We were taught from the time were small children that if we are threatened by anyone we were to call 911 and asked them to dispatch the police. But is that the real function of the police department? - MinuteMenNews

According to the US Supreme Court decision in Warren v. District of Columbia in 1981, the police do not have the duty to provide protection and services to individuals except under specific assignments.

Basically the Supreme Court ruled that police are not obligated to or have any duty to the victims of criminal acts. The main function of the police department is to arrest criminals and investigate crimes. - lastresistance.com

That only leaves one legal source of defense for every individual and homeowner. That defense is guaranteed by the Second Amendment in the right to bear and keep arms. That’s why the town of Kennesaw, Georgia passed an ordinance in 1982 requiring all homeowners to own a firearm to be used for protection. The only exceptions were for religious beliefs, convicted felons or those who had a strong conscientious opposition to guns. Consequently Kennesaw, a suburb of Atlanta, has one of the lowest crime rates in the nation.

So if you want to protect yourself and your family, I wouldn’t count on the police but rather I would urge you to go out and purchase a firearm and learn how to use it. Then if anyone breaks into your house, you’ll have your protection right there in your hands and you won’t have to wait for police who may or may not show up to help.

Homeland Security has advice for confronting mass murders: scissors

That’s some of the helpful advice in a new instructional video from the Department of Homeland Security that was posted on the agency’s Web site just a month after the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. - S.A. MILLER/NY Post

The nearly four-minute-long video opens with chilling scenes from the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre, the 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood in Texas, and the 2011 attempted assassination of Gabrielle Giffords.

But the video quickly shifts to hokey footage of office workers scampering under desks, crouching in corners and racing into closets to hide from a rampaging gunman on the loose.

“To protect your hiding place, lock the door if you can. Block the door with heavy furniture,” recommends the male narrator, speaking in measured, authoritative tones.

Other survival strategies promoted in the video include hiding “behind large items such as cabinets or desks. Remain quiet. Silence your cellphone or pager. Even the vibration setting can give away a hiding position.”

Richard Feldman, president of the Independent Firearm Owners Association, said he has a better option for consideration than a pair of scissors when confronting an armed mass murderer — a legal firearm.

"It is now undeniable that President Obama is breaking the most basic trust the American people put in any President.”

Senators Speak Out Against President’s Whispers

This week, a group of Republican Senators led by Senator Jon Kyl (R–AZ) penned a letter objecting to the President’s indications that he might favor Russian concerns over his duty to defend Americans against foreign military threats. “Not having to worry about the judgment of the American people on this important national security issue may allow more flexibility to make concessions to the Russians, but it would be antithetical to our safety and security and would be counter to other assurances you’ve given,” states the letter. The Senators are correct.

In light of President Obama’s actions when it comes to missile defense, his comments are not surprising. His Administration significantly cut the missile defense program in fiscal year 2010, and subsequent budget requests failed to make up for the lost ground. The President also negotiated the New Strategic Arms Reductions Treaty (New START), which links missile defenses and strategic offensive arms. The Russians have used this linkage to pressure the United States and its allies on missile defense. The Administration spared no effort to defeat an amendment in the Senate preventing this linkage during New START’s consideration.

The Senators also spoke out against the President’s statements regarding further unilateral nuclear weapons reductions. “We do not believe that confidence is shared by military planners,” the Senators wrote in the letter. The Administration is reportedly moving to reduce the arsenal of operationally deployed nuclear warheads to as few as 300. Not only would these reductions be expensive—and funded from the already overstretched Department of Defense’s budget—but they also are not based on a sound assessment of the international environment.

As Heritage’s Baker Spring concludes, “The President’s comments in Seoul are completely in keeping with this past behavior. What is now evident is the scope of the manipulation he is pursuing to fool the American people about something essential to their security. It is now undeniable that President Obama is breaking the most basic trust the American people put in any President.”

'AFTER MY ELECTION I HAVE MORE FLEXIBILITY'

President Obama Asks Medvedev for ‘Space’ on Missile Defense — ‘After My Election I Have More Flexibility’ - ABC News

The exchange was picked up by microphones as reporters were let into the room for remarks by the two leaders. VIDEO at the link

The exchange:
President Obama: On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it’s important for him to give me space.

President Medvedev: Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you…

President Obama: This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.

President Medvedev: I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir (Putin).

The United States and its allies remain unprotected from a threat of ballistic missiles while North Korea is preparing to launch yet another long-range missile. By conceding to Russian demands on missile defense, the Administration has made the situation even worse. Yet this is exactly what President is planning on doing if he gets re-elected. - Michaela Bendikova/Heritage.org
