Joe Wilson Was Right

“You lie!” - Jack Cashill/American Thinker

On the night of September 9, 2009, a still highly popular President Barack Obama spoke spiritedly to a joint session of Congress. He had summoned the members of both parties to introduce his plan to transform American health care.

The promises he made that night were many and, to most in the television audience, at least, sounded fresh. “Nothing in this plan will require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have,” said the president. “Let me repeat this: nothing in our plan requires you to change what you have.”

Simmering throughout this litany of disinformation was an obscure five-term South Carolina congressman named Joe Wilson. When Obama denounced as false the claim that this proposed health care system “would insure legal immigrants,” Wilson could hold his tongue no longer. “You lie!” he yelled.

Widely chastised at the time, Wilson had to feel vindicated this week when a report surfaced that 42 percent of new Medicaid sign-ups were immigrants, legal and otherwise. This added weight to the recent revelation that most of those newly insured for Obamacare had been insured through Medicaid.

It has been a good few weeks for Wilson. On November 4, he handily won re-election to Congress from South Carolina’s 2nd congressional district with nearly two thirds of the vote. A week later, the remarks made by MIT professor and self-styled Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber at a 2013 academic conference sobered up those who preferred to think Obama’s broken health care promises were unfortunate but unforeseen.

Gruber gave away the Obamacare game plan....

In this rare honest moment, Gruber put a lie not only to the basics of Obamacare, but also to the very foundation of the Obama presidency. “Let me say it as simply as I can,” Obama had told his assembled staff on his first full day in office. “Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency.” This was pure smokescreen. Obama would package and sell his plan on more lies than Bernie Madoff sold his – and with more disastrous consequences.

Obama started lying early on. In his second debate with John McCain, Obama repeated the canard he had used to outfox Hillary Clinton and John Edwards during the primary campaign – namely, that “there’s no mandate involved.” This was, of course, just one deception out of many.... KEEP READING

The Obamacare Controversy Grows - Bill O'Reilly

If the Republicans manage to elect a president in 2016, Obamacare is likely to be repealed.

But even before that, Talking Points believes the Supreme Court will strike down major parts of the law.

And part of the reason I believe that is because Dr. Gruber has exposed what some judges might consider a fraud.

Believe me, the Supreme Court is taking notes.

And that's the memo.

Leaning Forward: MSNBC host screams “Nobody cares about Jonathan Gruber!” claims the guy paid $400,000 to write and sell Obamacare had nothing to do with it.

MSNBC’s “The Cycle” went into overdrive while covering for the Obama administration and the recent videos of Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber insulting American voters and admitting to lying about to law, with co-host Ari Melber literally screaming “Nobody cares about Jonathan Gruber!” - Daily Caller
MELBER: “He’s some dude who said that. Who cares?”

Who Lied? Jonathan Gruber Linked to Getting Obamacare to Illegal Aliens - See more at: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/jeffrey-lord/2014/11/14/who-lied-jonathan-gruber-linked-getting-obamacare-illegal-aliens#sthash.RBQRYDjb.dpuf - Jeffrey Lord/Newsbusters

Jonathan Gruber, Sylvia Burwell and Joe Wilson. Added to the mix of the two biggest issues of the day - ObamaCare and an expected Obama executive order granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants, this is a potent cocktail of political explosives.

As President Obama addresses a Joint Session of Congress on his health care proposals - the proposals that would eventually become The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) -- aka ObamaCare -- South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson abruptly and famously shouted “You lie!”

While Wilson was chastised for his decided breach of congressional decorum, in fact what he was literally yelling about were these words from President Obama: “There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too is false. The reforms I’m proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.”

Now?

Now, Fox News co-host Greg Gutfeld has dug up this recent clip of HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell calling for “extending Obamacare benefits to DREAM-eligible illegal immigrants” and adding that “DREAMers are not able to be covered in the marketplace. And this is an issue that I think is more than a health care issue — it is an immigration issue…And I think everyone probably knows that this administration feels incredibly strongly about the fact that we need to fix that. We need to reform the system and make the changes that we need that will lead to benefits in everything from health care to economics to so many things — a very important step that we need to take as a nation.”

And who just happens to be well out there providing the data on illegal immigrants and Obamacare? If you guessed MIT’s Jonathan Gruber, you would be right.

In other words? President Obama is getting around his promise to Congress that September of 2009 that “the reforms I’m proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally” by simply bestowing amnesty on “those who are here illegally.” Once legal, they will be qualified for Obamacare.

And Jonathan Gruber, who confesses that the Obama administration deliberately sold its program by lying about it, has now been tied to supplying data on health care for those illegal immigrants. Illegal immigrants who would instantly become beneficiaries of the very same ACA once granted amnesty -- exactly as Obama HHS Secretary Burwell said was the goal.

Obama Is Now Lying About His Lies

“Some adviser who never worked on our staff.” - Le-gal In-sur-rec-tion
While in Australia this weekend, Ed Henry of FOX News asked President Obama about his connection with Jonathan Gruber. In typical Obama fashion, he claimed to have just heard about the controversy.

In the same way that Bill Ayers was “just a guy” from Obama’s neighborhood, Jonathan Gruber was “just an advisor” from Obama’s campaign.
‘Well briefed’ Obama tells Ed Henry ‘I just heard about’ Gruber [video] - Twitchy, Who Said What On Twitter
In Brisbane Australia, President Obama clumsily told Fox News’ Ed Henry that he ‘just heard about’ the controversy over Jonathan Gruber whom he described as ‘some adviser who never worked on our staff.’ He then went on to say that there was ‘not a provision of the healthcare law that was not extensively debated and it was fully transparent.’

Obama’s answer to Ed Henry’s question is sufficient evidence that his administration really does bank on ‘the stupidity of the American voter.’

For a guy who never worked on Obama’s staff, he sure did a lot of work on Obama’s staff. American Commitment president Phil Kerpen and others on Twitter spent much of the day compiling evidence suggesting Obama is bucking for another four Pinocchios. ◼ See it all HERE

Obama on Gruber: I Just Heard About This Today - Breitbart TV

Obama Is Now Lying About His Lies - Peter Wehner/Commentary Magazine

This is getting pathological. According to this story in Politico, President Obama, when asked whether he had intentionally misled the public in order to get the law passed, he replied: “No. I did not.” He actually did, repeatedly. Here’s just one example–on the president’s pledge that “If you like your health-care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health-care plan, period” –that comes to us courtesy of Glenn Kessler, who works for that well-known right-wing outlet the Washington Post.

Mr. Obama added this: “I would just advise every press outlet here: Pull up every clip and every story. I think it’s fair to say there was not a provision in the health care law that was not extensively debated and was fully transparent. It was a tough debate.”

Mr. Obama is confusing some things. The issue isn’t whether there was an extensive and tough debate. There was. The issue is whether the president and his White House, during that debate, intentionally misled us. He and they did, all the time, on all sorts of matters related to the ACA. The conservative criticisms of the president were entirely on the mark. They were the truth-tellers; the president was not.

Who does Obama think he's kidding? He paid Gruber $400,000 in taxpayer money to craft the law!

GRUBERMANIA CONTINUES: IT’S AWESOME HOW TED KENNEDY RIPPED YOU OFF, ISN’T IT? Seriously, how arrogant do you have to be to think this is okay to say in a public forum? - John Hayward/Human Events @Doc_o

...What he’s describing is the oldest trick in the Left’s book: forcing companies to pay a tax and pass it on to consumers, effectively hiding the tax from the people who pay it. A great deal of the modern Leviathan State is funded through such trickery. In ObamaCare’s case, it was decided to suck in revenue through an excise tax on expensive high-quality insurance plans – hence the “Cadillac” nickname – rather than directly taxing the insured, or capping the tax deduction given to them for purchasing health insurance. As Gruber noted, it would have been “politically impossible” to get something like that through Congress, so as Big Government has done so many times before, it drafted industry into service as stealth tax collectors.

Incidentally, it’s interesting that all of the subterfuges Gruber is crowing about pulling off today were deemed vital to the passage of ObamaCare in a year when the Democrats controlled both houses of Congress and the White House. That’s how bad ObamaCare is. No Republicans voted for it, Republican constituents were always against it, and the Tea Party movement evolved in part from spontaneous town-hall protests against ObamaCare. What Gruber is congratulating Democrats for doing is making patsies of their own constituents, and willing media. If you’re a Democrat voter, you are the one Gruber called “stupid” in those first clips. You’re the one who had to be hoodwinked, to keep your elected representatives on board with this scheme....

Gruber's Obamacare comments expose what's wrong with liberalism

My colleague Tim Carney has already written about how the comments are just the latest reminder of how the law was built on a foundation of lies. But there is a broader message in all of this — that Gruber’s comments get to the heart of what’s wrong with liberalism. - Philip Klein/Washington Examiner @philipklein

At the end of the day, liberals not only believe that they’re smarter than the public, but that they have a better sense of what’s good for the people than Americans themselves.

During the legislative debate over Obamacare, Gruber was frequently cited by liberal writers. He was portrayed as the numbers whiz who had all the stats and data to show that it was objectively the right policy. Opponents were portrayed as alternately stupid, dishonest or heartless.

Never mind that the law, among other things, raised rates on young and healthy individuals, forced individuals to purchase insurance, dictated to them what type of insurance they had to have, kicked them out of insurance that they may have liked, and resulted in plans with fewer choices of doctors and hospitals. The smart liberals have had an answer to all of these things.

As they tell it, young and healthy Americans will someday be old and sick; healthy individuals can sometimes suffer unexpected illnesses or accidents; the cheaper insurance they want to buy or want to keep isn’t as good for them as the more expensive insurance they will be forced to buy; and restricting access will contain costs.

It doesn’t stop with Obamacare, of course.

Liberals want to make Americans eat differently and to travel differently. They want taxes to be higher, because they think Americans waste their own money and that experts in government can spend it more wisely. They don’t believe that Americans should have more choice when it comes to saving for their retirement, because they think Americans are too stupid and irresponsible, so they’ll blow it. They don’t think that they should be able to have more choice over where to send their children to school.

Liberals don’t think that state and local governments should resolve most issues, because there are some states they think are dominated by dumb and unsophisticated people. So, to mitigate this, they support giving more power to the federal government, so that the smart people can impose their preferences on the whole country..... READ IT ALL

So much for that apology....video #2 is now out and showing the Obamacare architect celebrating the "stupidity" of the American people - HotAir

Oopsie! Another “speak-o”? Hardly. The architect of the nanny-state takeover of the health insurance industry has a pattern of public remarks about his evaluation of the American public as too stupid to take care of itself. That shouldn’t shock anyone; it’s exactly the same attitude that drives all nanny-state policies. Unfortunately for the current administration, Gruber’s dumb enough to air that opinion in public, multiple times, on camera.

They knew! Obama aides debated 'you can keep your plan' lie

Obama Administration Debated Whether President Should Lie About Obamacare - Yid With Lid
The Wall Street Journal reported that the Presidents, "you can keep your healthcare, period" promise was not an error it was a conscious political decision by the president and his political advisers made in 2009.
Behind the Scenes, White House Officials Worried About Insurance Pledge - By Colleen McCain Nelson, Peter Nicholas, Carol E. Lee/Wall St. Journal
In a bombshell report, the Wall Street Journal has gotten Obama advisers -- some on the record, others anonymous -- talking about the internal debate over the president's false guarantee that Americans could keep their insurance plan if they liked it, under Obamacare. In the end, politics trumped the truth. - Thomas Lifson/American Thinker

Throughout the discussion as reported by the Journal, aides relied on the notion that the only people who would potentially lose their health plans were those who bought them as individuals - about 15 million in number. (Note, this is half the number of claimed uninsured who were potentially to benefit. That number initially given was 30 million.) But of course, there were internal reports that 93 million Americans could lose their health insurance plans, as reported by Avik Roy in Forbes.

Now we know that for political reasons, the president's advisers told him to go out and lie. The excuses they offer for the lie are those of a con man. They sound like a bunch of used car salesmen who neglected to mention that the vehicle was involved in a serious accident and has an oil leak, because that would confuse the buyer dazzled by the chrome on the grille.

They knew that if the president told the truth, there would be Democrat senators and representatives who would vote against it. Those members of Congress who voted for Obamacare and now face the wrath of voters in 2014 have a stark choice to make. Either they turn on the president for lying to them, or they support the president. If they turn on him, they will retaliation, no doubt. Turning on the president could include supporting legislation to modify or repeal the ACA legislation.

Rand Paul on Sequester Fearmongering: 'Balderdash' - 'President Is Making Stuff Up'

Appearing on Fox News's Happening Now, Paul said, "The president is making stuff up" - Noel Sheppard/Newsbusters

I would say balderdash. It’s untrue, unfair, dishonest, disingenuous. The president is making stuff up. He puts law enforcement, he puts firemen and policemen, who 98 percent of them are being paid for with your local taxes, and says you’re going to lose your local policeman because of this. It’s not true. The sequester is a slowdown in the rate of growth of government. It’s the least we can do. Our country is drowning in a sea of debt, borrowing $50,000 a second. We have to slow down spending. And for the president to use this histrionics is really I think beneath the office of the presidency.

Shortly before 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, the White House emailed reporters that President Obama had signed a highly anticipated Executive Order aimed at protecting cyber security.
The order — setting up new programs aimed at stopping online espionage and terrorism — was already the law of the land, signed by the president. But it was also secret.
The document was "embargoed until delivery of the President's in the State of the Union address" — despite the fact it had already been signed.
