New York Times Finally Notices Obama’s Unilateral Abuse of Power

◼ Today’s New York Times offers a stunning revelation for anyone who hasn’t been following the news out of Washington for the past three years: President Barack Obama is bypassing Congress and using his executive authority to unilaterally implement his policies of choice, irrespective of the will of the people. - Mike Brownfield/Heritage

...After the November 2010 elections, the president — who was suddenly facing a Republican majority in the House after having enjoyed two years of Democrat rule — now had no choice but to compromise with the opposition party if he wanted to get things done legislatively. The thing is, the president didn’t want to compromise — he wanted to enact his agenda. And so he admitted quite plainly that where he could not legislate, he would regulate and do an end run around Congress. In a press conference on November 3, 2010, he discussed how he would apply that method to energy policy:
So I think when it comes to something like energy, what we’re probably going to have to do is say here are some areas where there’s just too much disagreement between Democrats and Republicans, we can’t get this done right now, but let’s not wait. Let’s go ahead and start making some progress on the things that we do agree on, and we can continue to have a strong and healthy debate about those areas where we don’t.
But energy policy isn’t the only way that President Obama has penned legislation with his own hand instead of choosing the constitutional route — bills getting passed by Congress, arriving at his desk, and then signed into law. On labor laws, immigration, marijuana use, voting rights, the Defense of Marriage Act, regulating the Internet, and making appointments, this president has circumvented the legislative branch via administrative fiat whenever his agenda stalls....

President Obama's go-it-alone program only goes so far

◼ Stymied by Republicans, an exasperated President Barack Obama told the nation he would go it alone and use his executive authority to get things done....“We can’t wait for an increasingly dysfunctional Congress to do its job,” he said in Las Vegas in October. “Where they won’t act, I will.”

But five months and almost three dozen announcements later, a closer look at the We Can’t Wait program shows just how hamstrung the president has been in acting on his own to provide expansive or quick relief to struggling Americans.

Some initiatives involve little more than a new website, a pilot program or a brochure. Others are basically repackaged announcements of programs already well under way. Yet others are works in progress, waiting on the government bureaucracy to catch up with the urgency of Obama’s “we can’t wait” mantra....

'We Can’t Wait!' Obama Harnesses More Control Over Private Businesses

◼ Barack Obama often seems annoyed by the limitations of his office these days, especially with a Congress that occasionally disagrees with him. - Austin Hill /Townhall

So rather than let something silly like the co-equal branches of government get in the way, the President has chosen instead to harness the mantra “We Can’t Wait!” (do an online search with the mantra and his name), and then impose his controls over our economy by executive mandates.

With an unending supply of programs to stimulate everything from domestic tourism to farm production, President Obama has huge chunks of the American economy firmly within his grasp. 4 years ago this kind of government control seemed like a good idea to some, but who still thinks that way now?

...The President’s mandates and controls are still hampering private businesses, while future generations of tax revenue are being spent on his selfish pleasures. We desperately need of relief from his stranglehold – and we can only wait so long.

Governors present included Govs. Jerry Brown (Calif.), Jay Nixon (Mo.), O’Malley, Christine Gregoire (Wash.), Bev Perdue (N.C.), Peter Shumlin (Vt.), Neil Abercrombie (Hawaii), Deval Patrick (Mass.) and Pat Quinn (Ill.).

Obama's new slogan is being promoted/mocked on Twitter with the hashtag #wecantwait

◼ Out: Pass This Jobs Bill! — In: We Can’t Wait! - Michelle Malkin

“Pass this jobs bill” has been abandoned in favor of something with a little more urgency: “We can’t wait!” It’s called “We can’t wait” because “Who needs Congress” sounded too brazen.

◼ Republicans agree, #wecantwait - Charlie Spiering/Washington Examiner

Nimble Republican operatives quickly 'hijacked' the hashtag as supporters picked up on it and spread their own "We can't wait" messages across Twitter today.

@rnc: #WeCantWait for 2012.

@reincepriebus: #WeCantWait to make @BarackObama a one-term president.

Speaker John Boehner: #WeCantWait for POTUS & Democrats to work with Republicans to find common ground #4jobs j.mp/o8BTFZ

@tommccammon: #WeCantWait another 910 days for Senate Dems to pass a budget.
