They put fences and walls around them, and made them into prison camps. ISIS, or the Islamic State, has used villages that were earlier emptied when their frightened inhabitants fled the Islamic radicals to imprison hundreds of Yezidi women and children.

Former German politician-turned-author Jurgen Todenhofer, who remarkably lived to share his reporting from inside the Islamic State, puts it bluntly: He has no doubt that ISIS wants to achieve the “largest religious cleansing in the history of mankind.”

Upon returning after 10 days with ISIS, here’s what Todenhofer reported:

1. Every day, fighters from all over the world join ISIS. Todenhofer met fighters from Sweden, Germany, France and even the United States.

2. ISIS hands out brochures on how to treat slaves, women and the proper way in which to pray.

3. Al-Qaeda is an empty shell compared to ISIS.

4. ISIS is “much stronger” than western politicians think.

5. The Islamic State wants the largest religious cleansing in the history of mankind. They want to murder and enslave all Jews, Christians, Yazidis, and any Muslims who support democracy. (This would be akin to modern recreation of the Holocaust.)

6. ISIS terrorists are the largest threat to peace since the Cold War.
