The Todd Akin mess

There’s no sugar-coating or whitewashing this. It wasn’t a “gaffe.” It was ignorant, garbled nonsense. Asked about his views on abortion in the case of rape, he claimed that “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” - Michelle Malkin

Akin’s opponent, incumbent Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill (who is currently 11 points down in the polls), moved in quickly to capitalize on the comments by claiming that Akin was blaming the victims of rape. In the video clip above, however, you’ll note at the end that Akin makes clear that the rapists should be punished, not the victims.
It’s about the only clear, sensible thing he said.

The “legitimate rape” phrase may have been a short-hand way, a la Whoopi Goldberg, of distinguishing between forcible rape and other types of rape or between real and phony claims of rape. Whatever he meant, he made a mess of it....

The question for Republicans in Missouri is whether sticking by self-inflicted-wounded Akin is more important than securing a U.S. Senate majority.

Missouri election law has a final Sept. 25 deadline to remove a candidate from the November ballot and allow state party committees to renominate a Republican to take on Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill.

The deadline gives Akin about four weeks to prove he can raise the money and maintain his standing in the polls for a general-election contest. Observers are skeptical that he can accomplish either.

Colorado Democrat: Women Don’t Need Guns If They ‘Feel Like They’re Going To Be Raped’ *UPDATED - Dana Loesch/Red State

FEEL LIKE YOU’RE GONNA BE RAPED? MAYBE YOU WON’T - Revealing Politics
Salazar: “It’s why we have call boxes, it’s why we have safe zones, it’s why we have the whistles. Because you just don’t know who you’re gonna be shooting at,” Salazar remarked in debate late Friday night. “And you don’t know if you feel like you’re gonna be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around or if you feel like you’re in trouble when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop … pop around at somebody.

Chill, women, says Colorado Democrat Rep. Joe Salazar. While arguing for the disarmament of college students, Salazar says that even if women feel like they’re going to be raped, they may not, so who needs a firearm for protection? - Dana Loesch/Dana Radio

This is the real “war on women” I’ve talked about: the progressive insistence that women disarm. Women, according to Rep. Salazar, are hysterical things which shoot indiscriminately at any and everything.
