Hillary Clinton agreed to participate in a so-called press conference Friday afternoon... The Democratic presidential candidate has been criticized recently over how long it has been since she last participated in an unscripted back-and-forth with reporters.

In fact, the Washington Post even launched an online widget to track how many days it has been (the answer is 245) since Clinton's last press conference.

They're people who are not criminals that are deported daily from this country. Madam Secretary, your poll numbers went way up this week, and yet, the email controversy was still in the headlines. So, I wanted to give you the opportunity to respond.

This week you told two separate news organizations that FBI Director James Comey said quote, "My answers were truthful, and that what I said is consistent with what I have told the American people."

That assertion, as you know, has been debunked by multiple news organizations which point out that Director Comey did say there's no indication that you lied to the FBI. But he didn't weigh-in on whether or not you were truthful to the American people. So my question for you is, are you mischaracterizing Director Comey testimony? I confess that when I occasionally see some of these bluechip Sunday morning shows it boggles the mind what ABC, CBS and NBC are willing to pay for. In the final debate before the New Hampshire primary, George Stephanopoulos' "powerhouse roundtable" included Cokie Roberts, who offered the stunning insight that as she saw it after Tuesday night a lot of the focus would be moving away from New Hampshire toward South Carolina.

That at least had the merit of being accurate. It's when they stray away from statements of the incontrovertible that it all goes to hell:

July 26th 2015: "At the end of the day, (Trump) is not going to be the Republican nominee."

August 7th 2015: "The fire that is Donald Trump is now contained. It's not going anywhere."

According to Fox News’ Megyn Kelly, many in the media have failed to portray both sides of the argument that Officer Darren Wilson was wrong when he shot and killed Michael Brown.

After Wilson was exonerated of any wrongdoing by a grand jury on Monday, Kelly took to the airwaves to criticize those that haven’t given the public all the facts, specifically the Rev. Al Sharpton of MSNBC....

The latter was on display at last night’s press conference with St. Louis County prosecutor Robert McCulloch, who, after announcing that a grand jury had refused to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in the August death of Michael Brown, took several questions from the gathered paragons of journalistic virtue. You’ve been accused by some of passing the buck, by simply standing back and putting all this evidence in front of the grand jury rather than taking a stand. Isn’t that what you were elected to do? Shouldn’t you have taken a stand in this case?

It is no surprise that it did not occur to the journalist in question that by taking the case to the grand jury, McCulloch did in fact “take a stand” — namely, a stand against the summary judgment that so many protesters were willing to make (“What do we want?” “Darren Wilson!” “How do we want him?” “Dead!”), and a stand in favor of community oversight through the mechanism of the grand jury. That the photograph of Walter Duranty — the New York Times Moscow correspondent who deliberately whitewashed Stalin’s 1930s forced starvation of millions of Ukrainians and won the Pulitzer for it — still is on the newspaper’s wall of fame with their other prize winners is apparently no aberration. The New York Times has no moral center. In fact, it’s despicable. On November 24, they published the home address of Officer Darren Wilson....

So much for that newspaper. They’re cancer.

Not quite cancer but pretty bad is Jay Nixon, the governor of Missouri. Not only did he attempt to prejudge the case, calling for Wilson’s head like some minor league Robespierre months before there was any evidence, but then, on the night of the grand jury announcement, after having brought in the National Guard, he goes completely AWOL and doesn’t use the Guards at all, leaving the poor store owners of Ferguson to fend for themselves, not to mention the police. Everyone got to watch the results on TV.

Peter Kinder, the vice governor of Missouri, wants to know what happened. Why no Guards, when they were all set to go? Did the word come down from the White House or the Department of Justice to keep the Guards out? Nixon didn’t answer, just accused Kinder of playing politics....

But the real top of the Ferguson Hall of Shame goes to the people who brought us Ferguson from the beginning. I mean the real beginning. I mean… what happened to black America in the post-civil rights era? Why has such a wonderful group of people who fought so hard against a racist society and won, who brought so much to American (and world) culture had the guts torn out of their community? Why is what was once one of our most family-oriented groups now virtually without family, seventy percent of their babies born out of wedlock? That was unheard of when I was a young civil rights worker in the sixties. And the endless black on black crime? Where did that come from? What caused that? Forget Brown. Forget Wilson. On Monday night, a grand jury in Ferguson, Missouri found no probable cause to indict Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson for the shooting death of Michael Brown. Following the grand jury’s ruling, the “big three” (ABC, CBS, and NBC) all broke from their regular prime time programming to announce the decision. Unlike ABC and CBS, NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams failed to mention any of the actual facts of the case or legal rationale for the grand jury’s decision when he expressed his dissatisfaction with the case’s outcome.

Williams opened his broadcast by declaring "The grand jury in Ferguson, Missouri has failed to come up with an indictment for the police officer in the shooting of the unarmed black teenager Michael Brown." While NBC ignored all of the actual facts behind the grand jury’s decision, ABC and CBS were much more reserved in their analysis. CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley provided a detailed explanation for the grand jury’s decision, and even included a statement from Officer Wilson’s attorneys...

Sharyl Attkisson, the investigative reporter who left CBS News earlier this year reportedly because of her frustrations with the network's perceived liberal bias, said Friday that the new face of the White House's press team stifled her efforts to get more information about the 2012 attack in Benghazi.

AP photographer hits White House: 'Once we lose access, we'll never get it back'

◼ In the latest media charge that the White House has reneged on promises to be “transparent,” two of AP's White House staff told a convention in Denver this week that the president's team often bars coverage of Obama events because they are “hypersensitive” about his Image. - Paul Bedard/Washington Examiner

At the Newspaper Association of America's mediaXchange convention in Denver, AP White House photographer Charles Dharapak said that instead of letting reporters and photographers in at major news events, like the president's recent meeting with the Dalai Lama, it is issuing “virtual press releases” on social media.

He suggested that in cutting reporters from events that have historically received coverage, the White House is limiting access to independent news organizations. "Once we lose access, we'll never get it back," he told convention participants.

The world has come to one key conclusion–Obama cannot be trusted.

It was no mere coincidence that the Washington Post published a piece co-authored by Bob Woodward, exposing Top Secret details of US drone strikes in Pakistan.

Leaking this information was a deliberate attempt to put the Pakistani Foreign Minister on the defensive. It was a shot from someone on the Obama team at the Pakistani Government to put them on notice that any an every aspect of their secret cooperation with the United States would be exposed if they dared to be too public in their criticism of the Obama Administration.

And all of this comes against the backdrop of a senior NSC staffer being outed and fired for his secret tweeting about the inside baseball of the Obama national security team. This news gives more credibility to the Ulstermann Reports, which have circulated the web over the last five years. In fact, makes me wonder if this guy was in fact Ulstermann. The key revelation from the Jofi tweets concerns Benghazi. He correctly notes that Hillary Clinton carried out a massive cover up of that unmitigated disaster.

These developments are more than juicy grist for comedians and political wonks. It represents a serious decline in American influence, prestige and power in some critical areas of the world.

Chilling Daily Caller Exclusive: Feds confiscate investigative reporter’s confidential files during raid

◼ A veteran Washington D.C. investigative journalist says the Department of Homeland Security confiscated a stack of her confidential files during a raid of her home in August — leading her to fear that a number of her sources inside the federal government have now been exposed. - Alex Pappas/Daily Caller

In an interview with The Daily Caller, journalist Audrey Hudson revealed that the Department of Homeland Security and Maryland State Police were involved in a predawn raid of her Shady Side, Md. home on Aug. 6. Hudson is a former Washington Times reporter and current freelance reporter.

A search warrant obtained by TheDC indicates that the August raid allowed law enforcement to search for firearms inside her home.

The document notes that her husband, Paul Flanagan, was found guilty in 1986 to resisting arrest in Prince George’s County. The warrant called for police to search the residence they share and seize all weapons and ammunition because he is prohibited under the law from possessing firearms.

But without Hudson’s knowledge, the agents also confiscated a batch of documents that contained information about sources inside the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration, she said.

Outraged over the seizure, Hudson is now speaking out. She said no subpoena for the notes was presented during the raid and argues the confiscation was outside of the search warrant’s parameter.

“They took my notes without my knowledge and without legal authority to do so,” Hudson said this week. “The search warrant they presented said nothing about walking out of here with a single sheet of paper.”

...Hudson said she wants to let her sources know that they may have been exposed.

“Part of the reason I’m coming forward with this is I’m scared to contact them,” she said. “I’m terrified to contact them… I’ve got to let these guys know somehow.”

There is a war on journalists being waged by government. It doesn't matter if they're liberal or conservative, only that what they publish displeases someone in Washington.

On Wednesday morning, CNN Newsroom anchor Carol Costello made a rather stunning, if cryptic, revelation. In discussing the firing of national security official Jofi Joseph, Costello agreed with panelist Jason Johnson that the Obama administration can be thin-skinned, and said that "President Obama's people can be quite nasty. They don't like you to say anything bad about their boss, and they're not afraid to use whatever means they have at hand to stop you from doing that, including threatening your job."

Johnson's reaction to the firing was that "we had to see more of the tweets. It's kind of inappropriate, so I can understand him being fired. But the Obama administration is very thin-skinned." (HT/ Ed lasky)

Journalists in Chicago routinely put up with this sort of thing from Democratic politicians. It goes with the territory. It shouldn't shock us, then, that these tactics have migrated to Washington with President Obama.

The warrant, obtained by the Times, offered no specific permission to seize reporting notes or files.

The Washington Times said Friday it is preparing legal action to fight what it called an unwarranted intrusion on the First Amendment....

David W. Fischer, a private attorney contacted by the couple, says that the raid is a potential violation of Mrs. Hudson’s constitutional rights.

“Obviously, the warrant is about a gun, nothing about reporters notes,” he said. “It would be a blatant constitutional violation to take that stuff if the search warrant didn’t specifically say so.”

“This is a situation where they picked very specifically through her stuff and took documents that the Coast Guard, or the Department of Homeland Security, would be very interested in,” he added.

The raid could constitute illegal search and seizure under the Fourth Amendment — and the fact that the materials were related to her work as a reporter could First Amendment freedom of the press protections.

TECHNICALITY KEEPS ROMNEY ENDORSEMENT FROM REPUBLICAN STATE PARTY LIST

When asked for a list of endorsed candidates for the Voter Information section of sample ballots, county registrars of voters (including Humboldt’s) received an August 14 letter from the chairman of the California Republican Party that omitted presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
“The letter cited sections of the State Elections Code governing the matter. Apparently, a printing deadline required that the list be submitted prior to the Republican National Convenion when Gov. Romney was formally nominated, so the CRP did not include him. Ironically, the later Democrat convention made the deadline,” said Peter Hannaford, chairman of the Humboldt County Republican Party. “This technicality is unfortunate,” he continued, “because the Republican party is solidly behind the Romney-Ryan ticket.”

State GOP chairman in town TODAY!

ART EXHIBIT AT REPUBLICAN HEADQUARTERS

Bernice Huston, Arcata artist (and a member of the Humboldt Republican Women Federated) has several of her works on exhibit at Republican Headquarters, 311 Fifth Street, Eureka. Included are a recent acrylic painting of the Mad River bridge, some done in her new medium of melted crayons and colorful abstracts inspired by Humboldt County scenes.

Ms. Huston is also a weaver and the exhibit includes samples of her woven scarfs, handbags and rugs, including one made from blue jeans.

HUMBOLDT REPUBLICANS MOVE TO ENDORSE ROBERTS FOR CONGRESS

After hearing presentations from two Republican candidates for the 2nd Congressional District seat, the Humboldt County Republican Central Committee at its monthly meeting last Thursday voted to recommend that the California Republican Party formally endorse one of them, Dan Roberts.

Roberts, of Tiburon in Marin County, has for 25 years been a partner in a small stock brokerage firm in San Francisco. He is a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. In his presentation he emphasized a balanced federal budget, reduction of the national debt, economic recovery and job creation.

Humboldt County Republican committee adds three members

With the addition of three new members at its Nov. 3 meeting, Humboldt County's Republican Central Committee has come to full strength of 23, plus three ex-officio members (or their designated alternates).

New members elected at the meeting were George Benzel, Carlotta, a one-time committee chairman; Rebecca Crosby, Eureka, homemaker; and Byron (Bud) Simpson, Eureka, owner of a personnel services business.

”This is the first time in recent years that the Republican committee has been at full strength,” said Peter Hannaford, committee chairman.

Plans were also announced for the committee's first Holiday Treats sale, offering pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving, pumpkin and pecan pies and cinnamon rolls for Christmas and specially developed Bella Baskets. Volunteer party bakers will provide pies and rolls. All items will be available through the party's local website, www.humboldtgop.org, and by direct mail. ◼ The Times-Standard
