NOONAN: Trump is on track to become the BIGGEST primary vote-getter in GOP history





...Mr. Trump’s appeal is simple: What Trump supporters believe, what they perceive as they watch him, is that he is on America’s side.

And that comes as a great relief to them, because they believe that for 16 years Presidents Bush and Obama were largely about ideologies. They seemed not so much on America’s side as on the side of abstract notions about justice and the needs of the world. Mr. Obama’s ideological notions are leftist, and indeed he is a hero of the international left. He is about international climate-change agreements, and leftist views of gender, race and income equality. Mr. Bush’s White House was driven by a different ideology—neoconservatism, democratizing, nation building, defeating evil in the world, privatizing Social Security.

But it was all ideology.

Then Mr. Trump comes and in his statements radiate the idea that he’s not at all interested in ideology, only in making America great again—through border security and tough trade policy, etc. He’s saying he’s on America’s side, period.

And because people are so happy to hear this after 16 years, because it seems right to them, they give him a pass on his lack of experience in elective office and the daily realities of national politics. They accept him even though he is a casino developer and brander who became famous on reality TV.

They forgive it all. Not only because they’re tired of bad policy but because they’re tired of ideology....

Obama’s Treason Is the New Patriotism

The New York Daily News denounced senators opposed to an Obama deal giving Iran the ability to develop and deploy nuclear weapons as “Traitors”. The administration’s social media allies’ hashtag dubbed Republicans opposed to Iran’s nuclear weapons as #47Traitors.

Traitors oppose terrorists getting nuclear weapons. Patriots like Joe Biden not only support it, but they blast a president trying to stop it while collecting $30,000 at a pro-Iranian fundraiser.

“Treason doth never prosper: what’s the reason?” Sir John Harrington cynically observed. “Why, if it prosper, none dare call it treason.”

But the Elizabethan courtier left out that when traitors rule, patriotism becomes treason. Obama commits treason and taunts his critics as traitors.

Republicans who want to see American leadership rise to the challenge of ISIS and Iran are accused of collaborating with ISIS and Iran by an administration that willfully lied and misrepresented the growth of ISIS for as long as it could and that is now doing the same thing for Iran’s nuclear threat.

EDITORIAL: The Star-Spangled ban

Rather than deal with violent gang members, the principal cracked down on kids whose clothing might offend the gangbangers. Now a federal judge agrees with the principal, saying we must not annoy young Mexicans who might turn violent.


Rather than deal with violent students, he cracked down on those who had committed no crime. Students who wouldn’t take off their offending shirts were sent home. Some of them later received telephone threats from gangbangers with threats to “take care of” the flag-wearers.
The threatened students sued, saying their First Amendment rights were infringed. A three-judge panel of the notoriously liberal appellate court was more impressed by the schoolmaster. “We hold that school officials, namely Rodriguez, did not act unconstitutionally,” the court concluded....

The court said clothing emblazoned with the Mexican flag was acceptable because Anglo students weren’t threatening to beat up anyone wearing the Mexican flag. “The [Anglo] students offered no evidence that students at a similar risk of danger were treated differently,” the judge said, “and therefore no evidence of impermissible viewpoint discrimination.”
This is about more than political correctness run amok.

According to the facts of the case cited in the Ninth Circuit's decision, students of Mexican heritage made profane threats against other students wearing U.S. flags on Cinco de Mayo in 2009, and referred to the display of the U.S. flag as "racist." The threats of violence the following year that led to students being barred from wearing such apparel stemmed from that perception as well.

Why didn't school officials challenge that false perception? Isn't it their job to teach facts -- including the fact that the flag of the United States belongs to all Americans of all ethnicities? Perhaps the school should schedule a visit from one of the many Mexican-American service members who have fought under their nation's flag in Iraq and Afghanistan over the past 12 and a half years so the students can hear what it means to them.

And further, why didn't school officials take action against those making the threats? Violent suppression of free speech is not just intolerant, it's bullying. Isn't ending bullying supposed to be a major focus of educators these days?

As Eugene Volokh, a University of California, Los Angeles law professor and nationally recognized expert on the First Amendment, noted in a blog post on the case, "[B]ehavior that gets rewarded gets repeated. The school taught its students a simple lesson: If you dislike speech and want it suppressed, then you can get what you want by threatening violence against the speakers. The school will cave in, the speakers will be shut up, and you and your ideology will win. When thuggery pays, the result is more thuggery. Is that the education we want our students to be getting?"

That's a question both the court and the local school district needs to answer, and quickly. If they don't, education will become a distant memory in public schools.

“I was invited to be a guest speaker with a premier assembly of conservative thinkers,” the Republican wrote. “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would be proud to know that a young black man born and raised in his same neighborhood rose based upon character. It is this equality of opportunity that is great about America … not President Obama’s phony rhetoric of inequality which is no more than equality of outcomes — social egalitarianism.”

...“I would hope William F. Buckley Jr. and Dr. King are smiling above as the embodiment of conservatism and the civil rights movement has come to fruition. The nature of conservatism is that it sees no color. The nature of liberal progressivism is that color is all it sees,” he concluded.

On Sunday, Mr. West wrote, “as conservatives, we don’t care about the color of your skin, we care about the color of our flag.”

Disney admitted to a patriotism that occasionally overwhelmed him. He once confessed, “I get red, white, and blue at times.” His love of country showed up in his films and television programs and has carried on in the theme parks that bear his name nearly half a century after his death. Sometimes the Disney brand of patriotism makes itself known in subtle ways, while at other times, it jumps directly in your face.

GALLUP: Republicans more proud to be American than Democrats...

Ninety-three percent of Republicans indicate that they are “extremely/very proud” to be American while only 85 percent of Democrats feel the same way.

We are Americans. We can do anything.

The only thing that stands between us and some of the best years we have known is lack of leadership. And that’s why we have elections.

This Tuesday is a moment to look into the future and imagine what we can do … to put the past four years behind us and start building a new future.

You saw the differences when President Obama and I were side-by-side in our debates. He says it has to be this way. I say it can’t stay this way. He’s offering excuses, I’ve got a plan. He’s hoping we’ll settle. I can’t wait for us to get started.

Americans don’t settle. We build, we aspire, we listen to that voice inside that says, “We can do better.” A better job; a better life for our kids; a bigger, better country.

That better life is out there, waiting for us. Our destiny is in your hands.

This We'll Defend


◼ Congressman Allen West (R-FL) released this statement today on the 237th birthday of the United States Army and the celebration of Flag Day:

"Today marks the 237th birthday of the United States Army as well as the celebration of our Stars and Stripes, Flag Day.

The Army is the largest and oldest established branch of the United States military, with a primary mission 'to fight and win our Nation’s wars by providing prompt, sustained land dominance across the full range of military operations and spectrum of conflict in support of combatant commanders.'

I can still remember the details of the day that I was sworn in as an Army Second Lieutenant in 1982. I remember the pride I felt wearing our nation's uniform and the feeling that I was a part of something larger than myself. I knew it was an honor, a privilege, and a responsibility...and I was committed to it wholeheartedly, just as thousands of men and women volunteer to commit themselves today, not because they are forced to, but because they truly want to serve their nation.

It is fitting that the Army's birthday also falls on Flag Day, as the Army's motto is 'This We'll Defend.' If it weren't for our brave soldiers defending our nation for the past 237 years, there would be no freedom to fly our flag. In fact, there would be no flag at all.

'This We'll Defend' represents the spirit of our Army, in that there is no 'I' or 'Me', but 'We'. As soldiers, we are unified to further a mission. On the 237th birthday of the Army and on the celebration of Flag Day, let us as Americans recommit ourselves to the spirit of the Army, that 'We' are stronger united than divided, and working together, 'We' as Americans will always prevail." ◼ h/t: Doug Ross

...There is no rational reason why a small republican experiment in 1776 grew to dominate global culture and society -- except that America is the only nation, past or present, that put trust in the individual rather than in the state and its elite bureaucracy. Such confidence in the average free citizen made America absolutely exceptional -- something we should remember more than ever on this July 4. Read the rest
