CFRW OFFICER NOMINATIONS

The 2017 Nominating Committee for the California Federation of Republican Women is seeking candidates for all offices of CFRW

Please refer to CFRW Bylaws, specifically those cited below for eligibility of candidates:

Article VII—Officers and Duties, Section 1: The elected officers shall be President, three (3) Vice Presidents (one each from Northern, Central, and Southern Divisions), Recording Secretary, Membership Secretary, and Treasurer.
Article VII—Officers and Duties, Section 3: the President’s term of office shall be for one term of two years and is limited to one term only. All other elected officers shall serve for a term of two years and may serve for no more than two consecutive terms. [Note: this means that if you already hold an office (other than President) and wish to run again for that office, you must reapply}
Article XI—Nominations and Elections, Section 6: Nominees shall be members in good standing in CFRW and Shall be in accord with the objectives, bylaws, and policies of CFRW
Article XI—Nominations and Elections, Section 7: to be eligible for the offices of CFRW President, and Vice President, a member shall have previously served as President at some level of CFRW, and have been a member of CFRW Board of Directors for not less than one term (two years).

Each candidate should send a resume and/or biographical history, and letters of recommendation via email to ALL MEMBERS of the Nominating Committee, including the alternates, by June 30, 2017.

Neil Gorsuch and Thomas Hardiman are considered the two most likely nominees to fill the Scalia Seat.

The gossip (i.e. media reports based on conversations with unnamed “sources”) claim it’s Gorsuch. Regardless of the choice — or if Trump pulls a surprise — Democrats have promise a fight to the death. They need to put on a show for the base. So it looks like this is going to go nuclear option.

Trump has played this masterfully, with the networks breaking into their nightly schedules for the announcement. He will have a yuge audience.

As is his wont, President Obama responded by giving the nation a self-serving lecture about constitutional proprieties. His courtiers cried out that Republican obstruction was unprecedented, even though it wasn't. They even hinted at racism as a motive. In other words, this ersatz drama has been par for the course.

Then up popped old C-Span clips. One after another, Democratic Sens. Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden were revealed to have argued, as though from profoundly-held principle, exactly the opposite of what they are saying now. There they are, in all their glory, thundering that the Senate has no obligation to take up a president's nominee. Even Barack Obama, during that short time when he put together a gossamer-thin Senate record, once tried to block a vote on a (Republican) president's Supreme Court nominee.

When the parties accuse each other of cynically and selectively reversing past opinions on court nominations, it's tempting to dismiss the back and forth as immaterial political ping-pong. But that would be to ignore the Democrats' impressive dominance of this sport.
