For those who wish to avoid “civil penalties up to $125,000 for violations, and up to $250,000 for violations that are the result of willful, wanton, or malicious conduct,” the New York City Commissions on Human Rights has some guidance on obeying the New York City Human Rights Law (NYCHRL):
Covered entities may avoid violations of the NYCHRL by creating a policy of asking everyone what their preferred gender pronoun is so that no individual is singled out for such questions and by updating their systems to allow all individuals to self-identify their names and genders. They should not limit the options for identification to male and female only. It’s important that the law claims “refusal to use a transgender employee’s preferred name, pronoun, or title may constitute unlawful gender-based harassment” because, as Volokh explains, an employer would have to fire employees or eject patrons who do not use preferred pronouns.
The passage is one example of many ways for residents to avoid violations outlined by the city.

City Comptroller Scott Stringer laid out the grim facts last week on how the most progressive law in decades means disaster for New York City.
The dire ObamaCare threat to New York’s hospitals http://t.co/wIf8Te38td
— FTSN Mainstream News (@ftsnnewsdeskm) May 17, 2015The bottom line of Stringer’s report: Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, aka ObamaCare, Uncle Sam will cut more than $800 million in payments to the city’s Health and Hospitals Corp, by Fiscal Year 2019.
The president’s signature law slashes federal payments that long helped out hospitals serving lots of patients who lack insurance. The idea was that the law would boost coverage so dramatically the aid would be unnecessary.
Except that illegal immigrants don’t qualify for ObamaCare coverage — and they make up a big chunk of the city’s uninsured population....
This is hardly the only huge problem with the health law. What with President Obama’s decisions to ignore or waive its clear language, laws passed by Congress and signed bv Obama to amend it and Supreme Court rulings that rewrote it, ObamaCare’s been tweaked nearly 50 times, by the Galen Institute’s count.
Repeal it or not, much of the law is just going to have to be replaced. (No lawmaker’s even started addressing the fact that state ObamaCare exchanges are hemorrhaging cash, as Michelle Malkin noted in these pages Friday.)

De Blasio Is a Lesson New Yorkers Need to Learn
Every election is another opportunity for the city to commit suicide. After decades in which the voters elected candidates who wouldn’t completely destroy their city and then salt the earth with their tears, a small decisive percentage of New Yorkers put a gun to the head of their city and fired a bullet named Bill de Blasio into its brain.
Like most brutal incidents in the Big Apple, Bill de Blasio won’t kill New York City. His term in office will be another painful learning experience. Every few decades New Yorkers lose their street sense and let a progressive take over. And then when his term is up, the city is out of money, everyone has been mugged at least once and nothing works, they kick him out again.
It’s a generational ritual that lets seasoned New Yorkers look back in horror at the days of Lindsay or Dinkins and now De Blasio. While the New York Times gushes adoringly over his every insane new policy, without noticing that they were all badly translated from the original Russian, his true function is to become a cautionary tale about the dangers of voting your politics instead of your pocketbook....

Dying For a Cigarette in New York
What "brought us to this day" is not a "history" of racism; it's the left's maniacal pursuit of taxes -- the precise reason cops were arresting Eric Garner. He was selling untaxed cigarettes. He resisted arrest and, in the tussle, had a fatal heart attack.◼ Dying For a Cigarette in New York - Ann Coulter/Human Events
Cops don't want to enforce these nonsense revenue-generating laws, but that's their job.
On Monday night, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow reported in horror that there has been a major reduction in fine-collection by the police. NEW YORKERS ARE GETTING AWAY WITH IDLING THEIR CARS! WHAT KIND OF A CITY HAVE WE BECOME? She accused the police of "holding a city hostage," warning, "If they feel like they don't have public support now, is this supposed to earn it back?"◼ And now: ‘Who’s going to enforce this?’ Having solved all other problems, Bill de Blasio announces styrofoam ban - Twitchy
Why, yes, I think it is. The only time normal people get annoyed at cops is precisely for these revenue-collection laws -- parking tickets, moving violations, driving without a seatbelt, selling untaxed cigarettes, jaywalking and so on. So it was quite brilliant of the cops to zero in on the laws that exist just because Democrats want the money.
While everyone hates him, de Blasio thinks now's a good time to BAN STYROFOAM IN NYC.

On Friday evening, thousands of New Yorkers attended a memorial service for Rafael Ramos, one of the two NYPD officers assassinated a week ago by an Eric Garner protester. The service brought mourners from every corner of the city. Noticeably late was embattled Mayor Bill de Blasio, who made it to the service only just before its conclusion.◼ Thousands stood ramrod straight and waited in the cold. Brietbart says 2 hours late, NYPost says way less. - Discussion at Lucianne
Ramos, 40, and partner Wenjian Liu, 32, were shot to death on December 20 as they sat in their patrol car. Both were murdered by a 28-year-old named Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley who claimed he was avenging the death of a man who died after police used a choke hold on him as he resisted arrest in July.
Also in attendance were contingents from dozens of Police departments from as far away as Ohio, Georgia, and Maine—all of whom came to show support for the fallen officer, his family, and their fellow police officers in the NYPD.
