Audio shows Katie Couric documentary deceptively edited interview with pro-gun activists















The fallout continues on #GunGate — the exposure of a faked interview response in “Under the Gun,” first reported by our friend Stephen Gutkowski at the Free Beacon today. In a nutshell, the film substituted some B-roll of interview subjects waiting for the interview to start in place of a substantive response given to Katie Couric on background checks. The Free Beacon published the unedited audio that proved that the film faked the response, which should have prompted a retraction and apology — at the bare minimum.

As Allahpundit already noted in an update, however, the cable channel that aired the documentary (EPIX) doesn’t seem to care about accuracy or honesty. They call the substitution of the actual answer for an unrelated response shot “creative and editorial judgment.”...

...let this be an object lesson in mainstream media bias, as well as protecting oneself from it. If asked to be part of an interview that is not airing live, be sure to record it yourself as well. Some reporters and productions can’t be trusted to be honest, and a couple of them self-identified today.

COURIC: Speaking of women, you've had some unkind words for Hillary Clinton. You said that she was not trustworthy and she hasn't accomplished very much. I think people might think, "Well, she was the senator from New York and she was the Secretary of State." How can you really make those claims?

FIORINA: Well, you see, Katie, in the world I come from, a title is just a title. I mean, you went through a whole bunch of things about me as CEO. You weren't impressed with my title. Why are we so impressed with political titles? Senator is a title. Secretary of State is a title. It's a completely legitimate question to say, "What has anyone accomplished with their title?" And the truth is, there are many in the political class who haven't accomplished a whole lot, despite their titles.

COURIC: What about the trustworthy claim?

FIORINA: Well, you know, I think when you know that Benghazi is a purposeful terrorist attack and you peddle a fiction for four weeks after that attack, that indicates you are not trustworthy. When you talk about a private e-mail server, that's not trustworthy. When it turns out that you were supposed to be disclosing all these foreign government donations to the Clinton Global Initiative while you were Secretary of State and you didn't and now the Clinton Global Initiative is having to restate their 990s, that doesn't sound very trustworthy to me.

'I wonder who she b**w this time': Katie Couric's bitchy aside after bitter rival Diane Sawyer beat her to land an interview, revealed in tell-all book

◼ Katie Couric and Diane Sawyer were so at war with each other that a rattled Couric once bitched: 'I wonder who she blew this time to get it' when Sawyer beat her to win an interview, a new book claims. - Daily Mail

...The book follows the rise of three respected, but fiercely competitive, newswomen Couric, Sawyer and CNN’s Christiane Amanpour.

And a swathe of the book details just how difficult things became between Couric and Sawyer as they competed for stories and interviews.

The Daily Beast quotes Weller's book as saying: 'When a friend of Diane's, a public figure, was being pursued by Katie's people, the wooed eminence got a call from [Diane's movie director husband] Mike Nichols, who said -- in a very nice way, to be sure -- that he and Diane would essentially cut off all social contact if their friend appeared on Today'....

Despite this, a TV source insisted to MailOnline in June: 'This book is riddled with inaccuracies, dates and ratings that are mentioned are not correct. What's sad is that this could have been a fantastic book instead of something that has blatant misogynistic undertones. These women are fascinating, all of them have sides, of course, but all of them have worked extremely hard to get to where they are.'

While another said: 'Katie is taking this on the chin, she's spunky, she's had enough c**p written about her before, but this is really the first time that Diane has been written about in this way, she's not happy.'

An ABC source previously MailOnline: 'these claims are just too ridiculous to even consider.'
