Spotlighting Novato Republican Women Federated

Novato RWF

"Being a Republican women’s organization in Marin County is quite a challenge. Marin County is known for hot tubs; and it’s definitely NOT a Republican -friendly zone. But the Novato RWF continually meets the challenge head-on. Formed in 1962, with over 190 members, and over 50 associates, we remain active and growing each year.

Being Republican in “enemy territory” creates a special bond between us all, and we carry that message to our community and our county.

This being an election year, we have our work cut out for us, but we have and continue to tackle it by hosting Republican candidate forums, inviting them to speak at our luncheons, ramping up our voter registration with surprisingly good results, precinct walking, and working at the polls and watching the polls on election day. We have members on the Central Committee, and one of our members serves on the county election committee.

Education, active citizenship and community service are our ways of increasing the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government, and we endeavored to improve upon that this year.

We awarded $5,000 in scholarships to three local college-bound high school students this year, donated flags and books to high schools, and increased our participation in our reading program to preschoolers. This program continues to mean so much to the members personally.

Our popular monthly luncheons have introduced our group and their guests to an amazing group of speakers, Lance Izumi, Debra Bacigalupi, Lanhee Chen, to name a few, as well as our local and state candidates.

On the community service front, we had a successful year with our troop packages, our Valentines for Vets and our support of our Vets by participating at Veteran’s and Memorial Day ceremonies.

And finally, the “F” in Novato RWF is not for “final” but for fun. With our Shotgun Training, Wine Tasting, and our fantastic Fashion Show featuring Alice Becker, let there be no doubt that this group, above all else, has fun."

Over the next several weeks, I will be placing focus on individual clubs from CFRW. This is the best way to highlight the accomplishments of each California Club and has the potential to give each member some new project ideas.

I encourage any of you that would like your club to be featured in “Spotlight” to email or call me at 707-255-2815. I look forward to hearing about what makes your particular club shine.
