In Eureka: The office of mayor and the 1st, 3rd and 5th Ward city council seats are up for grabs, though no incumbents or challengers have filed paperwork as of Tuesday afternoon, according to City Clerk Pam Powell.
"No one has actually qualified for the ballot at this point," she said.
Two city council seats have potential challengers, with Eureka resident Kimberly Walford-Bergel gearing up to run against 3rd Ward Councilman Mike Newman while Eureka resident Natalie Arroyo looks to take on 5th Ward Councilman Chet Albin. Mayor Frank Jager currently has no challengers who have pulled papers, according to Powell. The deadline to file is Aug. 8....
