CFRW Capitol Update

You are the best of the best
One Team, One Purpose, One Goal

I had the privilege of meeting with our new California Republican Party Chair, Jim Brulte, and Executive Officer Cynthia Bryant at our office in Sacramento. They both have great respect for our Federation and the women who serve. On this note, if you are currently a CRP Delegate and wish to serve on a committee, let Chairman Brulte know by answering the questionnaire he sent out last week. Having said this, if you do not participate, you have no reason to complain.

We also discussed our 2013 "Join the Federation Day" campaign. We need some ideas, so please send me your suggestions. Date to follow, but we are looking towards September.

Thank you to all the Clubs who have submitted their Achievement Award Forms. We have just a little over half of the CFRW Clubs who have participated. Even the newest of Clubs could earn a Bronze Award. Presidents: please take time to download the award form from NFRW, and send them to me before June 1, 2013. I am sure many of you have accomplished or will accomplish, by the end of 2013, items to garner a lot of points. One easy one is to invite me or a member of the Executive Board to visit your Club and speak about the history of NFRW. Please, please be part of the CFRW team to shine at the NFRW Convention.

We are proud to announce Ariana Assenmacher is the winner of the Republican Women Dorothy Kabis Memorial Internship. She will be interning at the NFRW Office and have other duties that will have her traveling to Washington, DC. CONGRATULATIONS ARIANA. What an amazing young woman.

For those who are interested in nominating a young woman between the ages of 14-18 to represent CFRW as a Page at the NFRW Biennial Convention in Louisville, KY in September, keep checking the NFRW Web Site for the application. This is a great experience for any young woman.

Never ever forget you are THE BEST OF THE BEST!
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO EVERYONE. WE ARE ALL MOTHERS AS WE MENTOR, NURTURE AND LOVE OUR YOUTH.
GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU ALWAYS,
Carol Hadley
CFRW President

AB 1266-OPPOSE!

The CFRW Voting Body voted to OPPOSE AB 1266 (Ammiano, D) and we need your help! AB 1266 “would require that a pupil be permitted to participate in sex-segregated school programs - and activities - including athletic teams and competitions, and use facilities consistent with his or her gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil’s records.” While the CFRW does not want any child discriminated against for any reason, we believe that this bill’s “one size fits all” approach to transgender students is not appropriate. In the Assembly Floor Analysis, two cases were cited in which transgendered students were asked to use the nurse’s bathroom instead of the bathroom their gender identity specified. The analysis stated that the students were embarrassed to use nurse’s bathroom because it made them different. But what the analysis failed to recognize was the potential for misuse of these transgender privileges, which is why we believe a blanket solution is not the answer. We respect all students’ privacy issues as well as their right to participate in school sports and activities, but this is an issue best left up to local school and parent-teacher organizations. Currently AB 1266 is in the Senate Rules Committee, waiting for its committee assignments. So what YOU can do right now is contact YOUR Senator and tell them that you OPPOSE AB 1266! Once the bill has committee assignments, we will work to oppose the bill in committee. Contact YOUR Senator today!

A Preemptive Gun Ban

Earlier this week, Senator Leland Yee announced he is crafting legislation to ban guns made with 3-D printers. Never mind that the technology is in its infancy and the first company to successful create a gun made from “mostly plastic” from a 3-D printer is in Texas. The company, Defense Distributed, posted videos online of its successful test fire. The 3-D printer creates the object through a digital image that prints out shapes in successive layers. Senator Yee believes it is important to preemptively ban the 3-D printer guns because, as he claims, California “must be proactive in seeking solutions to this new threat rather than wait for the inevitable tragedies this will make possible." The language of the bill has yet to be drafted, but isn’t this taking governmental intervention a little too far?
