Santorum endorses Romney in e-mail to supporters

"Above all else, we both agree that President Obama must be defeated," Santorum wrote. "The task will not be easy. It will require all hands on deck if our nominee is to be victorious. Governor Romney will be that nominee and he has my endorsement and support to win this the most critical election of our lifetime." - CNN

"The family and its foundational role in America's economic success, a central point of our campaign, was discussed at length," Santorum said. "I was impressed with the Governor's deep understanding of this connection and his commitment to economic policies that preserve and strengthen families."

California’s Party of Yes: The GOP

You know what they say about conventional wisdom. Right or wrong, conventional wisdom, like cement, hardens quickly. Once molded into public opinion, it takes a lot of chipping away to break that mold. - Tom Del Beccaro at Fox&Hounds

The conventional wisdom, largely wrong, among Californians was that Republicans in state government were obstructionists. The Party who wouldn’t compromise. The Party which responded to every call for reform with a chorus of “No’s.” These days, however, there are many more reasons to take a fresh look at who’s pushing for reform, and who has truly adopted the mantra of “No.”

Let’s start with Pension Reform. Public opinion polls affirm that Californians now recognize the need for substantive pension reform. Pension obligations for the retired, and soon to retire public workforce are already taking away monies that should be available for basic services like good schools, freshly paved roads and public safety. But when Republican lawmakers joined with Governor Brown, asking for nothing more than a simple up or down vote on his very modest pension reform plan – which prompted the LA Times to dub Republicans the Party of Yes, the Democrats who run the legislature said No, and have quietly pushed aside any hope of real pension reform for the foreseeable future...

Republicans are also saying Yes to common sense regulatory relief and Yes to budget plans that will boost hiring and perhaps let California at least catch up to the rest of the country’s jobs recovery.... More at the link

CALIFORNIA IS BURNING! QUICK, MORE GASOLINE!

There are good weeks and then there are bad weeks. For California, particularly its beleaguered taxpayer citizens, last week was a very bad week. - Jon Coupal, Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association

It’s hard to know where to start. First, while the rest of the nation comes out of recession – albeit slowly – California is doing some serious backsliding. According to the Controller’s office, government revenues are down compared to this time last year. The percentage decline was not all that great, from $40.97 billion to $40.81 billion, but the shortfall from Governor Brown’s proposed budget is a big number; more than $2 billion.

Compare these dismal numbers with Texas which, as of March, has seen a 12% increase in revenue.

Second, credit rating agency Standard & Poor’s issued a sobering statement expressing a lack of confidence that California’s political leadership could resolve the budget shortfall without the usual gimmicks. Bluntly stated, S & P said that it anticipates “budget maneuvers that may be politically expedient but fiscally unreliable.”

Third, for the eighth year in a row, California is ranked by CEO Magazine as the worst state in America in which to do business. California’s anti-business climate is legendary in the rest of the nation, and this year proved to be no exception. What is notable, however, were the brutal comments by business leaders who participated in the survey.... More, at the link.

State GOP Chair Tom Del Beccaro on KERO discussing GOP Solutions to Protect Education and Taxpayers

Republican Party, "Right Track, California!" tour. Chairman Tom Del Beccaro and the California GOP talk directly to the people as a part of its whistle stop tour to raise voter awareness about GOP solutions to get California back on track.

THE CHICAGO WAY: JUSTICE FOR SALE AT HOLDER'S DOJ

In an explosive Newsweek article set to rock official Washington, reporter Peter Boyer and Breitbart contributing editor and Government Accountability Institute President Peter Schweizer reveal how Attorney General Eric Holder and the Department of Justice are operating under a “justice for sale” strategy by forgoing criminal prosecution of Wall Street executives at big financial institutions who just so happen to be clients of the white-shoe law firms where Holder and his top DOJ lieutenants worked. - Wynton Hall/Breitbart's BIG Government

There’s more.

Even as President Barack Obama and Holder co-opt the Occupy Wall Street rhetoric of getting “tough” on the Big Banks and Big Finance, the Newsweek investigative report reveals that Eric Holder has not criminally charged or prosecuted a single top executive from any of the elite financial institutions thought responsible for the financial crash. And why would they? As Boyer and Schweizer report, “through last fall, Obama had collected more donations from Wall Street than any of the Republican candidates; employees of Bain Capital donated more than twice as much to Obama as they did to Romney, who founded the firm.”

CNN Anderson Cooper Exposes Obama & Bill Ayers

CNN showed how Obama and Ayers' "paths repeatedly crossed" as members of the board of the Annenberg Challenge Project, where for seven years, "Bill Ayers and Obama, among many others, worked on funding for education projects, including some experiments supported by Ayers." In another sound bite, National Review Online's Stanley Kurtz characterized how this funding worked: "Instead of giving money directly to schools, they gave men to what they called external partners, and these external partners were often pretty radical community organizer groups."

Ayers and Obama were board members for the Woods Fund, another foundation which donated money to liberal groups: "Among its recipients -- Jeremiah Wright's Trinity United Church, where Obama attended, and a children and family justice center where Ayers' wife worked."

Poll: Romney Opens 10-Point Lead Among Key Independent Voters

New poll results are delivering positive news for Republicans, including one survey showing that presumptive GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney has opened up a double-digit lead over President Barack Obama among independent voters. - Newsmax

A Politico/George Washington University poll has Romney with a razor-thin lead over Obama among all likely voters, 48 percent to 47 percent. A similar poll in February had Obama ahead by 9 percentage points.

But among voters who identified themselves as independents, Romney garnered 48 percent of the vote to Obama’s 38 percent.

Romney also has a 6-point lead among respondents who said they are “extremely likely” to vote in November.

The borrowing hit $5 trillion under Obama, who between golf outings and campaign hit-ups of wealthy people, adds $1 trillion plus each year in more debt. To question how to pay it back is to pollute the air or abandon the children.

...Those with capital—slurred as one-percenters, fat cats, and corporate jet owners unless hit up for Obama campaign donations—are not hiring or buying. Maybe they think oncoming Obamacare will smash them. Maybe they see on the Obama horizon rampant inflation, debt cancellation, or higher taxes as planned liberal remedies for our endless borrowing. Maybe these shrugging Atlases see that fossil fuel energy is not pursued on federal lands, but needless new regulations are implemented.

Whatever the reason, they hesitate—only sorta buying here, kinda hiring there. And the result of millions of these collective hesitancies is an ossified Europeanized economy, run by technocrats without private sector experience and exempt from the sacrifice they demand of others, as they desperately try to borrow and grow the government to ensure a permanent lease on power...

Sarkozy voted out in France; Socialist Party candidate wins presidency

Part of Hollande’s platform includes initiatives that sound like they were scripted as porn for die-hard Keynesians, including what sounds like a Buffett Rule on steroids - HotAir
Hollande has promised more government spending and higher taxes — including a 75-percent income tax on the rich — and wants to re-negotiate a European treaty on trimming budgets to avoid more debt crises of the kind facing Greece. That would complicate relations with Germany’s Angela Merkel, who championed the treaty alongside Sarkozy.
Hollande also pledged to lower the retirement age from 62 to 60 (which Sarkozy had raised from 60 to 62) and to add 60,000 employees to France’s public education system. And yet the budget, according to another of Hollande’s campaign promises, will be balanced by 2017.

“We’re not going to subpoena reporters in the future. We don’t need to. We know who you’re talking to.”

Investigative reporters are supposed to be the ones keeping an eye on the government. Instead, it turns out, it's the other way around. - Peter Suderman/Reason Magazine

...The public is generally unaware of how essential nominally classified information is to coverage of diplomatic and strategic news. As Steven Aftergood, director of the Federation of American Scientists’ government secrecy project, put it: “The administration’s aggressive pursuit of leaks represents a challenge to the practice of national security reporting, which depends on the availability of unauthorized sources if it is to produce something more than ‘authorized’ news.”

What’s behind the administration’s fervor isn’t clear, but the news media have largely rolled over and yawned. A big reason is that prosecutors aren’t hassling reporters as they once did. Thanks to the post-9/11 explosion in government intercepts, electronic surveillance, and data capture of all imaginable kinds — the NSA is estimated to have intercepted 15-20 trillion communications in the past decade — the secrecy police have vast new ways to identify leakers.

So they no longer have to force journalists to expose confidential sources. As a national security representative told Lucy Dalglish, director of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, “We’re not going to subpoena reporters in the future. We don’t need to. We know who you’re talking to....”

An update: Occupy group plans response to UC on Albany land

Protesters occupying land in Albany used by the University of California at Berkeley for agricultural research missed a weekend deadline to agree to a negotiated departure, but representatives said they would respond Monday. - Peter Fimrite

University officials claim the protesters have disrupted agricultural research by faculty scientists and students in the College of Natural Resources. At one point, Mogulof said, the squatters pruned some fruit trees on the property and explained to the dean of resources that they had to do it because the trees were diseased. Turns out the pruned branches were part of a research project on how diseases affect fruit trees, he said.

The university wants the land vacated by mid-May in order for certain agricultural research studies to be conducted.

"We have stated publicly and made clear to the occupiers that research and a tent city cannot co-exist," Mogulof said.

More college-bound Californians are heading out of state

Fed up with tuition increases and frustrated by rejection at packed California universities, more high school graduates than ever are ditching the state to attend college. - Phillip Reese/Sacramento Bee h/t: MH

Boise State saw its freshmen enrollment from California rise tenfold during the last decade. Arizona State doubled its enrollment of freshmen from California. The University of Oregon has quadrupled it, with freshman enrollment from California growing from 280 in 2000 to 1,100 in 2010.

...The trend, revealed in a Bee review of federal data, comes as the University of California system has stepped up its own efforts to attract out-of-state students. Despite those moves, taken largely to pay the bills, the number of students leaving the state for a four-year college far outpaces the number coming here....

The worst-case scenario for California is that a large number of students who leave the state for college don't return, leading to "brain drain."

...California still retains a higher rate of high school graduates than many other states, including New York. It's fallen from near the top to the middle of the pack.

But California needs all the college graduates it can get, said Thad Domina, assistant professor of education at UC Irvine.

"The creation of human capital," he said, "is a major driver for economic growth."

Obama tells Americans not to take chance on Romney

"We are not turning back the clock, we are moving forward," Obama said, seeking to revive the political magic that swept him to power in 2008, and unleashing his most strident attack so far on the man who wants his job.

He said Romney, a multi-millionaire former venture capitalist, wanted to reward himself and rich friends with tax reductions and "rubber stamp" slashing spending cuts on education, clean energy and health care for the elderly.
"Ohio, I tell you what, we cannot give him that chance ... this is not just another election, this is a make or break moment for the middle class," Obama said.

Dreams of My Ghostwriter’s Ex: Did Bill Ayers Use Dead Weather Underground Terrorist Diana Oughton as Model for Obama’s ‘Composite’ Girlfriend?

In 2008, conservative journalist Jack Cashill presented evidence that Barack Obama’s bestselling 1995 memoir Dreams From My Father had been written with the assistance of Bill Ayers, the former Weather Underground radical who was Obama’s neighbor in Chicago. - The Other McCain

Now, the revelation that an ex-girlfriend in Dreams was a “composite” or “compression” of several women — as President Obama reportedly told biographer David Marannis — has focused new attention on Cashill’s argument that Ayers was Obama’s ghostwriter.
The so-called “New York girlfriend” in Obama’s memoir bears specific resemblance to Ayers’s ex-girlfriend Diana Oughton, one of three Weather Underground members killed in 1970 when a bomb the terrorist group was building accidentally exploded....

In the wake of Maraniss’s report that Obama had admitted the ”New York girlfriend” was ”compressed” — a composite character – the similarities to Oughton previously noted by Cashill caused the Bookworm Room blog to remark: “I mean, what are the odds that you’d combine a whole lot of different women in your life, and then come up with Bill Ayers’ girlfriend?”

Romney to Obama: Where are the jobs, Mr. President?

The Obama campaign keeps trying to change the subject in this election from jobs and the economy to almost anything else — contraception, Swiss bank accounts, Seamus the Roof-Ridin’ Dog, whatever works. Republicans have countered these arguments, but when they do so, they run the risk of making the distractions work for Obama.

Yesterday, Mitt Romney wrote a lengthy column in the Cleveland Plain Dealer that put the focus of the election squarely on the issues that matter most to American voters:
Dear Mr. President,

Welcome to Ohio. I have a simple question for you: Where are the jobs?
...Blunt is the only thing that the Obama campaign understands … and fears. This is the theme that Romney needs to hammer over the next six months. Don’t get too distracted by War on Wimmenses and dog-crate nonsense. Obama and his team know they can’t compete on jobs and the economy and will do anything to change the subject. This op-ed is a good start in focusing voter attention back on jobs, the economy, and Obama’s disastrous performance on both.

California: Bill to allow some non-physician abortions is pulled

A controversial proposal to allow some nurses, midwives and physician's assistants to perform certain first-trimester abortions was pulled by its author Friday as she acknowledged it lacked the votes to pass a key legislative committee. - LA Times

The proposal, SB1338, would have positioned California in opposition to many other states that are restricting access to abortions. In its initial version, it would have allowed some medical workers to perform aspiration abortions, a less-invasive first trimester procedure that can currently be performed only by physicians in California.

The bill had the backing of the Democratic leaders of both houses of the Legislature and Planned Parenthood, which ran radio ads targeting legislators on the balking committee. But it was opposed by an influential nurses union and abortion foes.

“The multibillion-dollar Keystone XL pipeline project will reduce the United States’ dependence on foreign oil and support job growth by putting thousands of Americans to work” - Stephen Dinan/The Washington Times

The Canadian company seeking to build the massive Canada-to-Texas Keystone XL pipeline through the U.S. reapplied for a permit on Friday, pushing the politically sensitive issue back onto President Obama’s plate six months before the election.

TransCanada announced it has asked for permits to build the pipeline into Nebraska, and will eventually submit a new route skirting environmentally sensitive lands in Nebraska — the sticking point that caused the Obama administration to reject its previous application.

In a statement, TransCanada President Russ Girling made it clear he was appealing to Mr. Obama’s own stated goals of boosting American energy supplies. He also said the thousands of pages of environmental reviews already completed for the earlier application should convince the president to speed this new permit along.

Cinco De Mayo

Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday full of rich history and Mexican pride. This day commemorates the Mexican Army’s astonishing triumph over the French that took place on May 5, 1862. The Mexican Army was greatly outnumbered by the French, who had also not lost a battle in over fifty years!

In hopes of slowing the French’s advancement toward Mexico City, General Ignacio Zaragoza and his troops attacked the French Army in the small village of Puebla. This attack resulted in the unlikely victory for the Mexican Army. On September 16, 1862, President Juarez declared that the date of the Battle of Puebla would be made an annual holiday. Hence, Cinco de Mayo became a popular holiday in Mexico and in areas where there is a large Mexican population.

President Barack Obama has promised not to attack Pakistan-based al-Qaida leaders or fighters from bases inside Afghanistan. The surprising commitment effectively bars Obama and his successors from launching another nighttime helicopter raid like the one that that killed Osama bin Laden.

Say, you know who else wouldn’t get Osama bin Laden now? - Ed Morrissey/HotAir

The new agreement signed on the anniversary of Osama bin Laden’s demise would forbid exactly the kind of raid that Obama ordered, one originating from Afghanistan into Pakistan...

That’s not the only option Obama has taken off the table in the new agreement, either:
Obama’s commitment will also end the use of secretive drone-attacks from Afghanistan. Those attacks have killed hundreds of al-Qaida leaders since the mid-2000s. They’ve also been very popular with U.S voters, and usually have had tacit Pakistan approval.

...how cynical can one be to accuse a political opponent of lacking the testicular fortitude to launch the kind of mission Obama green-lighted a year ago while negotiating a pact that forbids them in the future anyway? The only answer to this is that an American President might not feel bound to honor that part of the agreement, but that’s a poor answer. That would call our commitment to the entire pact into question, as well as our credibility on other treaties and pacts around the world. Besides, it doesn’t answer the question. Obama accused Romney of not having the guts to make the call, while agreeing with Karzai to never make a similar call himself. It’s hypocritical in the extreme, and the inclusion of such an agreement should have us questioning Obama’s intestinal fortitude in fighting terrorists in the region.

With his serious talk, Gingrich elevated GOP race

"I am here with very fine competitors, but no opponents," Gingrich concluded. "We only have one opponent, and that's Barrack Obama." The audience absolutely loved it. - Byron York/Washington Examiner

In an organizational sense, Gingrich never really had much of a campaign. But he is a serious man who has accomplished big things in his life, and his presence made the race a more substantial affair. And it's fair to say Romney became a better candidate after facing the Gingrich challenge. Even those Republicans who never wanted Gingrich to win should be glad he ran.

The political world was transfixed yesterday by the Obama campaign’s release of a Web slide show called “The Life of Julia.” It takes about two minutes to get through, and its purpose is to wow American women with all the glorious government goodies they can and should claim throughout their lives — just so long as Mitt Romney doesn’t get elected and take them all away.
It takes us on a chronological journey through Julia’s life. We stop every few years and are instructed about the ways in which government programs are cosseting her, guiding her, giving her a leg up, keeping her safe from harm and even graciously allowing her “not to worry about her health” so she can focus on her career as a Web designer....

‘Julia’ Becomes Vehicle for Obama’s Messaging - nytimes.com

But ...if the campaign hoped to put a personal face on the president’s accomplishments, it has also managed to provoke a fury among conservatives, who took to Twitter to mock Julia and to condemn the implication that the fictional young woman should be dependent on government policies throughout her life.

Within moments of being posted online, the #Julia hashtag began trending on Twitter. The bulk of the comments came from people who expressed outrage the depiction of Julia’s life...

Mr. Obama’s supporters on Twitter praised the idea, calling it a creative way to explain the impact of the policy debate in Washington.

But those posts on Twitter were largely overwhelmed by the sarcastic ones from Mr. Obama’s critics:

RNC campaign parodies Obama '08 sticker

The Republican National Committee is getting ahead of President Obama's official campaign kickoff in Ohio and Virginia on Saturday with a media blitz labeling his reelection as the "Hype and Blame" tour.

The RNC will sell "Hype and Blame 2012" bumper stickers — a twist on Mr. Obama's "hope and change" campaign of 2008 — accompanied by digital advertising, a fundraising strategy, radio and TV ads, and op-eds in local media. RNC Chairman Reince Preibus and state party chairmen will detail the strategy in a conference call with the media Thursday.

Mr. Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will formally launch his reelection campaign Saturday with rallies at the Ohio State University in Columbus and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.

OBAMA ADMITS FABRICATING GIRLFRIEND IN MEMOIR...

Obama: 'New York girlfriend' was composite - Dylan Byers/Politico via Drudge

One of the more mysterious characters from President Obama's 1995 autobiography Dreams From My Father is the so-called 'New York girlfriend.' Obama never referred to her by name, or even by psuedonym, but he describes her appearance, her voice, and her mannerisms in specific detail.

But Obama has now told biographer David Maraniss that the 'New York girlfriend' was actually a composite character, based off of multiple girlfriends he had both in New York City and in Chicago.

BARRY’S IMAGINARY GIRLFRIEND - John Hinderaker/Powerline

There has been a lot of hilarity today over the revelation that the “New York girlfriend” who plays a significant role in Barack Obama’s autobiography Dreams From My Father did not, strictly speaking, exist....

If Mormonism Is Fair Game, so Is Jeremiah Wright

A well-regarded Republican strategist at a private gathering recently warned, "And just wait until they play that Mormon card." By "they," he meant the Obama campaign and its complicit media cheerleaders. - Larry Elder/TownHall

Lawrence O'Donnell, only days later, gave his viewers a historical tutorial on the Mormon religion, darkly suggesting that we all should be afraid, very afraid. The Democratic governor of Montana, Brian Schweitzer, called Mitt Romney's grandfather a "polygamist."

This is actually good news for the Romney campaign.

By making Romney's Mormonism an issue, the Obama campaign has, as trial lawyers like to say, "reopened" the issue of religion. The Romney campaign can therefore revisit the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Obama's close relationship to him. True, Obama apparently severed ties to Wright, but Obama did so only after the very salvation of his first presidential campaign depended upon it....

The Hypothetical President - David Harsanyi/Human Events

...The president has, by his own account, prevented countless disasters and tackled an incalculable number of problems that don't exist yet....

As a political matter, "Things could have been worse, you know" is a far cry from "Hope." That's probably why the Obama campaign has settled on the slogan "Forward." That's not to say that the counterfactual tactic is unusual in politics -- we are, after all, engaging in some serious guesswork -- but rarely is the justification for re-election based almost entirely on a gigantic hypothetical. When there is no tangible accomplishment to grab, I guess you're left with few alternatives.

Gingrich to campaign for Romney

USA TODAY interview: Gingrich ready to support Romney - Susan Page/USA TODAY

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich, on the eve of suspending his roller coaster presidential bid, said in an interview with USA TODAY that he will embrace Mitt Romney's candidacy Wednesday and is ready to campaign for his former rival.

The two men will make a joint appearance in a few weeks, when Gingrich will make an official endorsement. The Romney campaign and the Republican National Committee have offered to be helpful as Gingrich works to retire his campaign debt.

In a phone interview Tuesday, Gingrich said he had no regrets about his decision to run for president, but "I have regrets about not being smarter about how to run."

Obama's Chicago politics: Thuggery, not civility

Obama talks a good game on transparency and openness, but he's ready to flout the law by avoiding AVS and to break his high-minded campaign promises. - Michael Barone/Washington Examiner

...In the 2008 campaign cycle, he promised to take public financing for the general election. He broke that promise when it became apparent he could raise far more money on his own.

During much of this cycle, he's been criticizing Republican super-PACs as a perversion of the political process. But when he saw that Republicans might be able to raise as much money as Democrats, he broke that promise too and authorized Cabinet members to appear at fundraisers for the super-PAC headed by his former deputy press secretary.

Democrats outraised Republicans in 2004 and 2008. Evidently Obama considers it grossly unfair that they might not do so this year. That's not how things work in Chicago.

The "campaigner in chief," as the Washington Post's Dana Milbank dubbed him yesterday, also has a nasty habit of denouncing Republican and conservative contributors by name. He's followed lefty bloggers in trying to demonize the Koch brothers.

This, coupled with a propensity to make jokes about siccing the Internal Revenue Service on people, looks like an attempt to chill opposition political speech. Especially when there are reports that Tea Party organizations are getting hassled by the IRS.

Obama also indulges often in reckless political rhetoric. He likes to say Republicans want no regulations at all on financial institutions and businesses.

It would be more politically astute, I think, and would certainly look less thuggish to draw intellectually defensible distinctions between his own regulatory policies and those of the opposition. Attacks like this sound like debates late at night in the dorm.

"If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun," Obama said during the 2008 cycle. That sounds like something you might hear from a community organizer. Or a Chicago pol....

The preezy of the United Steezy is making me queasy.

President Obama, campaigner in chief - Dana Milbank/Washington Post

I’m not troubled by President Obama’s slow jam with Jimmy Fallon, who dubbed the commander in chief “preezy” during Obama’s appearance on late-night TV. No, preezy is making me queasy because his nonstop campaigning is looking, well, sleazy — and his ad suggesting that Mitt Romney wouldn’t have killed Osama bin Laden is just the beginning of it.....

Decline or Decadence?

America is suffering from a lack of mastery over its own riches. - Victor Davis Hanson/National Review Online

...An average American with an average cell phone has more information at his fingertips than did a Goldman Sachs grandee 20 years ago. Over the last half-century, bizarre new words have entered the American vocabulary — triple-dipping, Botox, liposuction, jet set, COLA (cost of living adjustment), three-day weekend, Medi-something compounds (Medicare, Medicaid, Medi-Cal) — that do not reflect a deprived citizenry. In 1980, a knee or hip replacement was experimental surgery for the 1 percent; now it is a Medicare entitlement.

American poverty is not measured by absolute global standards of available food, shelter, and medical care, or by comparisons with prior generations, but by one American now having less stuff than another.... Read the rest.

Meet the New Farm, Same as the Old Farm? Occupy Seizes Berkeley’s “Gill Tract”Crossposted at PJM

...on Earth Day, the Occupy movement illegally took over an entire farm and transformed it into…a farm!

The farm they seized was not a working farm per se, but rather a “research farm” for the University of California, near its Berkeley campus. The only difference between the way the farm used to be (prior to a week ago) and the way it is now is that the Occupiers have transformed what was essentially a well-maintained and important open-air laboratory into a disheveled and ultimately purposeless pretend-farm for trustafarian dropouts....

...prior to the Occupation, this tract of land was used exclusively for agricultural research (and not establishing a grunge encampment), there’s actually less farming going on now than there was before.

Republicans Launch Facebook App to Defeat Obama

The Grand Old Party opened up a new media salvo with Tuesday’s launch of its ◼ “Social Victory Center,” billed as a one-stop-online-shop for Republican voters to organize, plan events and volunteer in local, state and national elections. - Mashable

And it’s all baked directly into a Facebook app, allowing the GOP to capitalize on the relationships that users on the social network have already built with one another.

“With the Social Victory Center, we are revolutionizing the way activists and volunteers participate in Republican campaigns,” said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus in a statement. “We’re breaking down geographic borders and connecting users to a nationwide grassroots network and a wealth of political resources.”

Users first register with a Facebook profile, and input additional informaiton such as their ZIP code and phone number. Then, they’re greeted by the “news” section, which features the latest Republican web ads and an assortment of Republican-friendly news stories, the selection of which depends on users’ location...

...The app will also feel comfortable to users, the Republican’s new media team says, because people are already familiar with Facebook and its myriad apps. Republicans built the app on Facebook instead of on their homepage, GOP.com, partially for that reason....

Standing Up To Honor Killings.

It is stunning to me that a woman like Pamela, a warrior for women’s rights, would get so much “islamophobic” press, when she is simply trying to be a voice for women. A voice for a woman’s right to LIVE. The creeping sharia that is spreading across America is no joke. If you think it is, then watch this video and look at all of the faces of women who were murdered in the name of “honor”. - Hillbuzz

The prominent human rights organization American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI), its Stop Islamization of America (SIOA) program and the Virginia Anti-Shariah Task Force (VAST) hosted the first-ever human rights conference dedicated to exposing the plight of women under Islamic law in Dearborn, Michigan on the anniversary of the honor murder of Jessica Mokdad: the Jessica Mokdad Human Rights Conference.

Businesses, Cars Vandalized During Protest - MissionLocal (image source)

t is not immediately known how many people were arrested. The Occupy San Francisco group released a statement early Tuesday Morning saying that the group of vandals were not part of the movement, but the statement was taken down shortly after.

Scott Anansi Rossi, who was at the scene last night, wrote in a blog post that the riots were not planned.

“I believe we were hijacked and it was an utter clusterfuck. It started out as sort of a “pep rally” type thing at Dolores Park, but maybe 20 minutes after we got there, it turned into a march,” Rossi wrote on his blog.

The vandalism began almost immediately after the group took off from Dolores Park at around 9 p.m. A group of protesters paint-bombed Tartine Bakery on 18th and Guerrero Streets. When they reached Farina one protester grabbed a chair and attempted to break the window, said police officer D. Daza. The protester was not successful. Several of the protesters, described as wearing all black and covering their faces, threw paint sacks and wrote anarchy signs and a message that read “Yuppies out!” at the restaurant’s windows.
